Shin Kamen Rider: when will it be here on home video?

For the discussion of non-Toho monster media, tokusatsu franchises, and also for mixed discussion of Toho and non-Toho kaiju media.

Shin Kamen Rider: when will it be here on home video?

Post by mikelcho »

Does anyone have any information as to when Shin Kamen Rider will be released on home video in this country?

Shin Kamen Rider hasn't even been released on disc in Japan yet. That's coming on November 20. It's probably going to be a while before there's any news about a North American home media distributor. At least it's available to stream on Prime Video in the meantime.

Have you watched Kamen Rider Kuuga or Kamen Rider Ryuki yet? Those are great shows. Shout Factory has released them both on BRD but you can stream them for free with ads on Tubi, Pluto TV or Shout Factory's website if you'd rather check them out first. See how many Kamen Rider series you can watch before Shin Kamen Rider gets a North American disc release!

Wonder why it took like a year and a half for it to get a domestic home video release. Was it just to give Anno enough time to create his alternate cut? I know he's shot new footage for it.

As far as I could see, I thought it had been released on home video in Japan long ago. I wonder what's keeping it?

And what's this about an "alternate cut"? Is this a director's cut of the film? I haven't seen or heard hide nor hair about this.

Anno is recutting Shin Kamen Rider into six classic style episodes with new footage shot for this version. He's even recreating the opening and closing credits sequences.

I really hope that Shin Kamen Rider gets a North American physical release in the near future, same with the original 1971 Kamen Rider TV series. *fingers crossed*

When this film is released here at last, does anyone here think that both the theatrical version and the alternate version will be released together in the same package?

I'd hope so but considering how the Shin Ultraman releases went, my confidence is low.
Back from the dead and... not really making the most of it, honestly.

There's no way of knowing, but I think it's safe to say everyone hopes that this is the case.

I think GKIDS might be our eventual home video distributor just because they've become so close with Anno/Studio Khara in the last few years. They're even re-releasing Anno's first live action film, Love & Pop, in theaters.
