The Legend of Zelda Movie! By... Sony?
Oh yeah, this is happening.
https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movie ... 234964911/
Being produced by Sony is kind of ironic, since they were going to helm the Mario movie, till it got leaked and the film was sent over to Illumination. This one won't be animated, however. It'll be live-action, directed by Wes Ball.
I guess this means Nintendo's splitting their properties when it comes to film. Big name franchises only I imagine, so.. Guess next in line is Kirby? Or Metroid?

A guy who randomly stumbled upon this place one day, invested much too much time into it, and now appears to be stuck here for all eternity..and strangely enough, i do not regret it!

Alright. Which would you rather, adapt a specific game or create their own brand new narrative. Either could work.

Loosely base it on OOT, with easter eggs to other games throughout. OOT lends itself nicely to having a lot of stuff that could be easily expanded on that is sort of brushed over. OOT has some of the most "imagery" that would be cool to adapt to the big screen: Gannondorf on his horse in the nightmare/real life, the final ascent/dark confrontation on the top of Hyrule Castle, the bustling marketplace of Castle Town (with the music) and things like Zora's domain. Easy to make characters out of many of the people in the game too: Saria, Twinrova (for cackling Gannon supporters), Zelda etc...Tyrant_Lizard_King wrote: ↑Tue Nov 07, 2023 5:06 pm Alright. I reeeeally wanted this to be an animated movie. Live action just seems like it'll have to fly in the face of some of the mystique of the Zelda series. But, I'll stay cautiously optimistic. It could be done well if Miyamoto reins Sony in a bit.

I have no idea why they aren't making this animated. It would be much less of a risk to take.

Could be pretty cool. I'm cautiously-optimistic. I used to be a much bigger Zelda fan when I was younger, but I'll still play Ocarina of Time and stuff from time-to-time
Excited for the casting news

Twilight Princess would be the easiest to adapt in live-action I think, since it had the most "realistic" graphics of any Zelda gamesLSD Jellyfish wrote: ↑Tue Nov 07, 2023 6:04 pmLoosely base it on OOT, with easter eggs to other games throughout. Graphics doesn't matter to an adaptation - something being more stylistic in one medium isn't going to make it difficult to translate. Story, story is key here.Handsome Shrek wrote: ↑Wed Nov 08, 2023 2:21 pm Could be pretty cool. I'm cautiously-optimistic. Well I have faith in Nintendo. As someone who really liked the Maze Runner movies as cautiously optimistic. Especially after an old tweet of Ball's resurfaced saying the one movie he wished he could direct was a Legend of Zelda film. Wish him luck. It'll also be written by Derek Connolly of Jurassic World fame. That may not inspire confidence in some but he did also co-write Detective Pikachu which I found to be a delightfully entertaining ode to the Pokemon franchise (he also worked heavily on Kong: Skull Island, arguably the best of the MonsterVerse films).

Re: The Legend of Zelda Movie! By... Sony?
20 years to maybe 10 years ago I would have been super excited about this. I remember making overly long and detailed forum posts about how cool this would be to see with Lord of the Rings visuals mixed in with some Jim Henson's The Dark Crystal inspired and Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy/Pan's Labyrinth inspired practical creature effects. Like imagine an octorok by the Jim Henson Company or a full Goron suit by GDT.
But decades later and I'm expecting a polished "seen that" The Hobbit styled CGI and everything's too slick and...eh, I'll def give a trailer a watch, could turn me around, but I don't have the excitement for this now as I would have before the vast majority of movies all started looking the same to me effects-wise.

Nintendo's so damn cheap they'll always choose any studio that targets the lowest common denominator over more talented creatives. Through to be fair, part of the target are general audiences who likely aren't too familiar with the source material outside of having a general idea of what it is.

I'll hold my judgement until I see a trailer.
The problem with doing nothing is that you never know when you're finished.

Re: The Legend of Zelda Movie! By... Sony?
Eh, I'm not really excited about this. Twenty years-ish ago this was a huge dream of mine, I love the Legend of Zelda franchise, and coming off fantasy films like The Lord of the Rings trilogy and Del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth felt like something truly grand and spectacular was possible. The best CGI, the best practical/physical effects, real eye for detail stuff with costuming and props, I went all out in my fantasy giving some creature work like the octorocs and peahats to The Jim Henson Company (The Dark Crystal remains my favorite movie of all time, imagine what they could do with creatures that lend themselves to that), races like Gorons and Zoras to whoever Guillermo Del Toro uses for Hellboy/Pan's Labyrinth, costuming and props by Wētā Workshop along with some creature work as well. Just the best of everything.
But yeah no, not happening with Sony especially in the film culture of today. It might be a fun film, but it won't have that epic feel or look anymore. No physical/practical creature effects for the monsters, CGI only, not even the best CGI, and this is assuming it's a live action film and not a CGI animated movie like Mario. I might watch it, and it might be a fun romp, but it'll never ever be as good as what I had imagined for it in my youth. Because Hollywood can't make that kind of film anymore - one can argue and theorize on why it's impossible to create that type of film now, whether from an over-reliance on CGI or the MCU-ification of movies or whatever else, but it doesn't change the fact my dream LoZ movie has to remain just that, my dream.

Watch it end up like the Masters of the Universe movie from the 80s. Starts in Hyrule but ends up in modern day America.

I feel happy and concern about this project. I only started to play breath of the wild, so my opinion isn’t really as valid but I kind of hope that they add some dark and edgy elements into this

We officially have our Zelda and Link. Seem to be going for unknown actors. That's perfectly fine, this the the kind of franchise that could use fresh faces instead of big names.
