Giant Monster Movies on Home Video

If anyone wants to know, I just visited the Vinegar Syndrome web site to look up their release of Reptilicus and the original Danish version (which, btw, is 95 minutes long, 13 minutes longer than the U.S. version) is going to be on the Blu-ray disc only. The U.S. version is, therefore, on the 4K disc. No word on which of the discs that the special features will be on... yet.

Hoping that Konga gets a new release like this so we can complete the EuroKaiju trilogy.

Konga was released on Blu-ray by Kino Lorber Studio Classics, and so was Yongary, Monster from the Deep. From what I've heard, they're very good, and they're definitely not another bargain basement/fly by night video company.

Yes I know, but Konga didn't have all the bells and whistles.

Kino Lorber Studio Classics' Blu-ray of Konga did have three things, though: the film's theatrical trailer, a radio spot and an image gallery. Is there anything else out there dealing with this film that even I don't know about?

Reptilicus by Vinegar Syndrome has finally arrived!

Man, Reptilicus is some of the most deluxe packaging I've seen. A rigid cardboard case, a slipcover under that, and then a standard 4K case in that with a reversible cover (and a Reptilicus anatomical chart poster tucked inside).

The Blu-ray of the AIP cut has all the extras, the Danish cut is a bare bones disc, the 4K disc just has the commentary but none of the featurettes.

I want to pick Reptilicus up, but $47 (after shipping and tax) is a crazy price for one schlocky old movie, regardless of how great the disks themselves are. I'm having a hard time pulling the trigger on that. Does Vinegar Syndrome usually put out a basic release with fewer bells and whistles after the collector's edition?

Commentary track for Reptilicus in great. I can't decide which moment from the Danish film expert is more iconic; him becoming emotional at the scene where Reptilicus destroys a historical building that really did burn down just recently or the part where he casually mentions while telling a related story that he dated a famous Danish porn star. I kept rewinding to listen to that in a "wait, did I hear that correctly?" way.

I've seen all the evidence: AIP version of Reptilicus is the best version. No sightseeing tour of Copenhagen in the Danish version!

That is an amazing cover. I have Yongary on DVD and haven't felt any need to watch it since 2010, so I probably won't rush to buy this edition... but man does that art make it tempting.

^ I was kinda bummed I missed the first blu-ray release from Kino Lorber because of the Steve Ryfle commentary, but now I'm pleased because that'll be retained, plus an enormous amount of new extras!

Watching this right now, its a beautiful transfer and the extras are great! They even have the interview with keizo Murasae that was done for this very site.

^ Got mine, too! Just got the standard case with no outer box, but it still came with Matt Frank's Yongary anatomy poster!

The extras are really top notch. This is a loaded release.

I couldnt help getting the sleeve version. it looks soooo nice. I also get sleeves cause im paranoid about damage from people lol. Im gonna be real I dont think I ever realized how good this movie looked until seeing it like this. Really glad I bought this. Def gotta get their Gorgo and Reptillicus now

I haven't seen Yongary for awhile, so I may get it. Also, I'd go ape if they offered Konga. It's not the best giant gorilla film, but Michael Gough is a good villain.

If Vinegar Syndrome ever does release it, then they'll have done quality Blu-ray releases of what I call "The 1961 Kaiju Trilogy": Gorgo, Konga, and Reptilicus.

Now, if only someone would also release three quality hardcover books, each one of them containing every single solitary issue of these three monsters' respective comic book series from Charlton Comics, and not just the issues that Steve Ditko made (as has been done in the past), that would be EXCELLENT for every one of us fans of these characters!
