Re: Godzilla: Heist Discussion
I've been trying to get back into the IDW series. I really liked Godzilla: War for Humanity two years ago, so much that I got the trade paperback. I've been pretty hard on IDW's runs I feel and the only ones I've really liked were that and Godzilla in Hell. I hated Kingdom of Monsters and found Oblivion to be bland. There have been so many comics that I don't really invest time in them much with how little bang I'm getting for my buck. So I thought at least one of these miniseries would be able to match up after so many tries, right? Decided to get back into it and see if I missed out on some things.
God damn I'm beginning to think I just have rotten luck, because this entire series has mostly felt like a waste of my time. The art is ugly, the story has led to virtually nothing interesting or groundbreaking. I will probably skip #5. I am not feeling it.

I haven’t read Heist beyond issue 1, but Godzilla Here There Be Dragons is a very easy recommend. If you like it, it’s got a good sequel, and actually another ongoing sequel.Showa Gyaos wrote: ↑Thu Jun 05, 2025 9:14 pm I've been trying to get back into the IDW series. Also, if you like more wild and stuff, check out Godzilla Monsterpeice Theater. A simple google search will let you know if you’re interested in that artistically.

So let me get this straight...you actually chose to follow Heist over Here There Be Dragons, Sons of Giants, Here There Be Aliens, and Mothra Queen of the Monsters?Showa Gyaos wrote: ↑Thu Jun 05, 2025 9:14 pm I've been trying to get back into the IDW series. All joking aside, you're 100% correct on Heist. Its story feels so out of date and stuck in 2011-2012. Save yourself the frustration and just follow the above titles. Hell, even Monsterpiece Theatre (which I wasn't crazy about and also has ugly artwork, but at least it was never boring) and the recent Godzilla vs Marvel series would be more enjoyable alternatives to follow...

I already ordered the trade paperback of Here There Be Dragons and am waiting for it to arrive. It's the one story I know people speak highly of. I know I've missed a lot of material and I blame Kingdom of Monsters for that. I skipped so much.LSD Jellyfish wrote: ↑Fri Jun 06, 2025 12:46 amI haven’t read Heist beyond issue 1, but Godzilla Here There Be Dragons is a very easy recommend. Yeah, that's entirely on me and admittedly I haven't been paying close attention to what IDW's done with the property since I finished Oblivion. I've only recently gotten back into comics in general, not just Godzilla. I try to support my local comic book place and Heist was the one series they had (#1 and #2) that was Godzilla related. This was probably the wrong thread to make that kind of complaint at all, but ultimately I think Heist doesn't do anything remarkable enough to justify finishing, and I don't think the characters are interesting enough to follow it further. It's not on the same level of awfulness as Kingdom of Monsters, but it still reminds me of that run.ebirahsmeg1 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 06, 2025 1:16 amSo let me get this straight...you actually chose to follow Heist over Here There Be Dragons, Sons of Giants, Here There Be Aliens, and Mothra Queen of the Monsters?![]()

I read issue #4 and immediately came to see if people were talking about it, then gave off a little vent of my frustrations.

You mean you also followed Oblivion and KOM over the likes of Half-Century War, Rulers of Earth, and Rage Across Time....man, I feel bad for you.Showa Gyaos wrote: ↑Fri Jun 06, 2025 10:35 am

You're not the only one underwhelmed by this series. Do not fret though, Here There Be Aliens just started (issue #1 was released last month and it was great). And while you're at it, go ahead and pick up its predecessors Here There Be Dragons and Sons of Giants as well...you won't regret it. Mothra Queen of the Monsters is currently in the middle of its run, so you should be able to easily get caught up on issues 1-3. And while far from perfect, the current GvsMarvel series has mostly been a lot of fun...

Re: Godzilla: Heist Discussion
I guess I'm the one guy that likes Heist. It's more action focused compared to Kaiju Heist. I know our lead is an anti-hero but I still cheered when they got the other hand. This is waaay better than Kingdom of Monsters or Oblivion. It's refreshing they are keeping it to two monsters rather than forcing cameos.
Guess I'm #1 Heist fan.

Re: Godzilla: Heist Discussion
This might be a case of Godzilla fans not liking something because it’s not to their particular liking (in terms of action). From what I can understand, it’s a very character driven story that features Godzilla? That’s probably the main issue.daveblackeye15 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 06, 2025 11:23 pm I guess I'm the one guy that likes Heist. It's more action focused compared to Kaiju Heist. Re: Godzilla: Heist Discussion
Is Kaiju Heist character driven? I really don't think so, mind you this is coming from Godzilla Heist's #1 fan. Nah it isn't I don't think so. Now Kaiju Score I would say is character driven and a bit more solid...but it didn't promise too much kaiju action nor have it to be fair. Now Godzilla Skate Or Die I say is pretty character driven and I really enjoyed that. Godzilla Heist is very rule of cool at play and it winks at the reader over it's cliches...for better or worse and I enjoy it.LSD Jellyfish wrote: ↑Sat Jun 07, 2025 5:11 pmThis might be a case of Godzilla fans not liking something because it’s not to their particular liking (in terms of action). Yup.
Wow, what an accomplishment that is.This is waaay better than Kingdom of Monsters or Oblivion.
Agreed. Besides the two "main characters" (if you could call them that), I couldn't tell you a single significant, impactful item about any of the characters. Is Kaiju Heist character driven? I really don't think so, mind you this is coming from Godzilla Heist's #1 fan. Nah it isn't I don't think so.
Anyways, enjoy the "thrilling" climax of issue #5....I don't think I'll be bothering...

I just realized that all the B covers for Heist are based on movie posters for Heist/Crime movies. Reservoir Dogs, The Fast and the Furious, Mission Impossible, Point Break ,Inception. That's cute plus makes neat artwork.

Too bad they didn't make one based on Army of the Dead.daveblackeye15 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 24, 2025 7:52 pm I just realized that all the B covers for Heist are based on movie posters for Heist/Crime movies. And I just found out they can't do it anyway because it's five issues long. In fact, it's either finished or close to being so.

Maybe they'll do a Godzilla Heist 2 and then they can do Army Of The Dead tribute cover.
Now I wonder with IDW doing the Kai-Sei series I wonder if they were still do a mini or two still.

Re: Godzilla: Heist Discussion
Finally read issue #5. Really feels like kind of an extended story from the Mechagodzilla anthology and probably not worth doing a whole five-issue run with. It wasn't terrible, but I will probably never think about it again from this point on.
