I thought it was filled with concrete after vs Destoroyah when they killed Godzilla and signed the rights away to the Americans (we know how well that went  )

No, I don't think they got rid of the big pool until after Final Wars.

Does anyone think that the living brain cells used to augment MechaGodzilla's CPU were harnessed from Katsura herself?

I think there were actually two pools. I know for sure Final Wars was the last production that used The Big Pool (it was the bigger pool hence why it was called The Big Pool, correct me if I'm wrong somebody) and now people park cars on it which makes me really profoundly sad if I think about it too much.

I suppose using her brain tissue would make the neural connection between her and the robot easier.

Hell, it's still the final classic suitmation Godzilla film. The new CGI films have a very different feel to them, regardless of their quality. Something was lost in 2004.
I think it was lost in 2006 finally after Gamera the brave came out.
For me it was the last live action, full length kaiju movie that featured suitmation.

I agree with this. And, IMO, this far CGI hasn’t managed to capture that “man in a suit” feeling.

CGI has already accomplished a ton of things it hasn't been able to just 20 years ago.

Whether it gets the 'feel' right or not, CGI can never actually be a man in a suit. And that's what really matters. You have a physical dude breaking physical handcrafted props with physical pyrotechnics going off all over the place, or you have animation. They can never be equal because they're completely, fundamentally different.

That's also ignoring the audience's knowledge of the issue. People aren't really upset, just acknowledging the end of the era. A hypothetical movie that perfectly mimicked men in suits by CGI isn't what people are asking for. We're just making note of GFW/Gamera the Brave being the end of an era.

I still think that suitmation could be very impressive and modern by combining it with state of the art CGI. Imagine what a guy in a well crafted suit could look alike in a green room with green, destroyable objects.

Don't the recent Gigan and JJ live action shorts we've had do that? They have great suits, but also some CGI to go along with them.

They did it in a kind of "Ultraman-style" where the movie looks like a tokusatsu morning show for kids.

But still, the possibilities are nearly endless and for me a fight between 2 suit stuntmen feels more realistic than mass inertia ignoring soulless CGI

Yeah, I think my issue with CG isn’t that it’s necessarily “bad per se,” just some shots feel “off” in their lack of inertia and a general feeling of weightlessness.

Just re watched it last night(been a few years) Really good i think i was to harsh on it do to the human plot being too dramatic but. When you got great kaiju action with great human story and bad ass aliens.
Honda really did make a big final blast for the showa era.

Technically, doesn't that dubious title go to Monster X Strikes Back?

I mean, if we’re including non-Toho films then suitmation is still around.

Parodies do not count. They are harmful to the holy genre of suitmation live action kaiju eiga.
