Finally getting some traction. Travis Knight has been tapped to direct. Fans might be a tad upset at the story synopsis but after Bumblebee I'll give Knight the benefit of the doubt.

Yeah not sold on the synopsis but in the other hand it's all about execution so I'll give them a chance.

Sasha Baron Cohen is reportedly the studio's top choice to play Skeletor.

Having been following this since John Woo was attached in 2005 it sounds like a desperate attempt at recapturing the success that Barbie had with “making the toy live amongst the real world”.

The attempts to bring MOTU back into the mainstream have been lukewarm at best. It should be clear by this point that kids aren’t into it and the adults who grew up with it in the 80s should be the target audience. If it were up to me I’d try channel the old comics and pulp Conan/Flash Gordon vibe but this reads like it’s going to be a sarcastic parody of itself ala planting a modern sarcastic teenager in the He-Man world. We’ll see where it goes I guess.

Nope Leto is officially Skeletor (personally got nothing against him not sure why people hate him so much)! Goat Man, Tri-Clops, and Trap Jaw have also been cast.

I don’t doubt he’ll play a good Skeletor but I’m a little disappointed. He looks like Keldor so visually he’ll be fine. But Leto is a creepy guy IRL from everything I read so I’m not super hyped any time I see his name attached to a project.

The writer is already a veteran working with Knight on Kubo and he both wrote and directed Missing Link, both of which were at least very well received critically. The two combined have a pretty impressive if somewhat limited resume. They might be going about the story in a questionable way but they definitely have the talent and accolades to back them up.

Loved MOTU since a kid but I lost 100% interest as soon as they cast Captain Weirdo. Just seems like an instant death knell, least for a portion of the audience

My feelings on the MotU franchise is more nuanced and impersonal, probably because I missed it. I wasn't an 80's kid, I don't remember it because I was born in 87. I did grow up on a lot of cartoons of the 80s that showed up in the 90s, whether because they were still airing new episodes or reruns one, but Masters of the Universe largely just wasn't one of them. I remember being a HUGE fan of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and The Real Ghostbusters, I remember enjoying Thundercats, and as little as I saw of it I was always fascinated by The Pirates of Dark Water, but when it comes to Masters of the Universe I'm more familiar with the early 00's remake than the original (and tbh I remember enjoying that take a lot, shame it was short lived).

That said, hoping this movie beats out the soulless "modern" remake curse where it all looks nice and shiny but holds no memorable substance like the originals had. Even if I'm not familiar with the series, the outright out there and absurd techno-magic fantasy stuff I've seen of it is right up my alley.

Think it mostly has to due with playing the cringiest take on the Joker ever in Snyder's DCEU, being Sony's Morbius, and some rumors of weird shit he does as a "method" actor that is just...problematic and make you feel for his fellow cast members.
