He wrote and directed Godzilla vs Biollante and Godzilla vs King Ghidorah.

He wrote Godzilla and Mothra and Godzilla vs Destoroyah.

Damn.

As far as Godzilla directors go, he's certainly underated. While many might now know his name like they do Honda or Fukuda, I think he had a large impact on the Heisei series, and he created two of my favorite Godzilla films.

He had two of the best movies in the franchise to his name, and the other two are major landmarks if nothing else. That's accomplishment enough for anyone.

Is it true he was a huge James Bond fan?

I've always had healthy respect for Omori despite some of his tackier choices. Biollante and King Ghidorah are two of my go-to films to show people who aren't super familiar with the series. Some accuse him of a Hollywood fixation which I wouldn't argue, but I think it's safe to say he had a tremendous hand in the current state of Godzilla as a global icon. And I think sometimes it's good for an "outsider" to work with an established property, the way he did, as someone who isn't super obsessed with said property. His contributions to the series go well beyond Biollante and Vs King Ghidorah, but those films will always be special to me (in case you can't tell by the username lmao)

RIP. This man is basically responsible for my childhood, at least in part. He leaves a gigantic legacy behind.

I like his work, and vs Biollante is high on my list of Godzilla films. My sympathies to his family and friends.

Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah was my first Godzilla film, and it holds a very dear place in my heart. This sucks.

I might watch Godzilla vs. Biollante later today in his honor.

Very sad to hear about his passing. Godzilla vs. Biollante is on deck for my ongoing chronological rewatch, and this will certainly cast a somber light on my viewing.
