Re: Godzilla vs Kong Rumor Thread (SPOILERS)

Or the coma rumor is an older pre-reshoot ending

Remember what the LA assistant said...legendary is confident that toho will renew the license

This coma rumor could be true...while also being false

It’s an older rendition of a movie made at a time when no...there was no confidence

miguelnuva wrote: Wed Feb 03, 2021 2:43 pm The COMA makes a lot of sense. Godzilla presumably can't be killed but Legendary is not promised the rights going forward. You need someway to write him out of the films and explain why he doesnt show up again without killing him if they did want to continue with Kong.

Just playing Devils advocate, let's say Toho doesn't make a new deal and Legendary makes Kong 2 and they makes 700m plus, Kadokawa then brings them Gamera and Cloverfield ends up with Legendary and both these films do 500m+. That justifies keeping the series going but with let's say another Titan comes down and Clover, Gamera and Kong barely defeat it? Where is Godzilla who we know should have appeared? Coma, he isn't coming back.
You have a point. I also think if this movie really ends with Godzilla's coma, that can be done only when Legendary wanted to continue Monsterverse but couldn't manage to renew the right yet. So Toho monsters will be in hiatus for years in this case. (Well, Toho will have to make another hollywood movie someday eventually and that could be easilly Godzilla coming back to MV)

I'm not buying that spoiler though.

Anyway back on topic before mods snipe us, do we think Kong is going to get scarring similar to his K05 self on his face?
I think he eventually does from the footage. Couldnt really get a cleae shot but theres a moment where one of Kong's eyes seem to be damaged.
What?? Did you see early footage, because if so that's awesome! Unless you're referring to the trailer footage, to which I would say it didn't really look like it to me. I like the 05 scarring, same with the Mezco figure scarring!

Also, about this coma rumor... Guys. Let's all remember not to get too confident. Remember how quick many were to shut out the bowing rumor before KOTM came out? Prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

People are just reading in too much from the trailer, all it really showed was that this is not a mismatch. That being said Godzilla is most likely gonna win and in the end show people that Godzilla has a better understanding of threats than we or even Kong who was simply at the wrong place at the wrong time. Godzilla is the hero and punishment that we deserve and the rightful King of the Monsters.

Imo, Godzilla will win because of Toho. Toho is very rigid about the their monsters, and since this is a american movie, i doubt they would let Godzilla lose. In 62, Kong won because it was a Japanese movie.

I am pretty sure that Big G will be the winner.

WB did buy Bad Robot and JJ Abrams for millions upon millions of dollars... What if there was some world building intentions there? Especially hearing about a CF2 on the horizon

Eh. If only for Clover to be fodderized by other obviously stronger Titans. With those spindly legs and limited biological weapons, he'd be the most underwhelming Titan. Not very fond of Cloverfield, never did get why people liked it.

Because it filled the kaiju void for the 10 years we didn't have one, it's one of the closest films we've gotten to Gojira 1954 thematically, it has top notch CGI, A unique story, an incredible monster design, and holds onto the mystery of the character which kaiju films haven't done since, again, the 50s.

Plus the iconic ARG that went along with it.

Wait, they did?? Dear god....don't put this hope inside my head!! :freak:
One one hand, I'd like Cloverfield to stay contained to the universe it set up in the original film (which means yes, no aliens or dimensional merging etc, just the monster and mysterious sea ooze) buuut seeing Clover get a proper feature Monsterverse film would be unreal levels of cool.

Well, the monster itself isn't that much to write home about in terms of ability (although it is extremely fast and athletic and able to lunge super high) but I love the film. It's one of my personal favourites due to how cleverly secretive it is, the film is from the POV of panicking, distressed civilians thrown into a surreal nightmarish situation, but if you pay attention and do some digging through the extra stuff, you can put together the more hidden plot details which feels so cool. Seeing the falling satellite during the end scene which set the whole movie's events in motion crash into the sea without even being noticed by the characters gets me every time.

In terms of Clover's design, it's a little uh, un..unique-d by all the modern monsters who ape its design, but at the time, there wasn't really any other kaiju which looked like Clover. The gangly, pale monster with six limbs, hinged fish jaw, black glassy eyes and inflatable gill sacs... it was a design that was wrapped in mystery, never revealed until the actual film came out, and it really left an impression. I do think it's really cool.

Plus, those parasites are so horrifying they're brilliant.

A Cloverfield MV film wouldn't necessarily have to involve stronger titans. They could go the self contained route like K:SI.
You know what? If they do for some reason acknowledge The Cloverfield Paradox, they could give us a film set in another dimension with their own version of Monarch, where the events of Cloverfield happened and Clover is the first big titan to make modern landfall instead of Godzilla.

...if you say so. I definitely don't agree with any of that. Especially not it being close to 1954's theme and filling a void. Any chance it had a filling a void was killed when it was made found footage style. The CGI was passable. Having seen it again recently, it was nothing special. The story was...okay. I wouldn't go as far as to say it was unique, I've seen other movies around that time and before use a "omg, monsters in real life? Impossible! Panic panic panic" approach before. And clover himself doesn't even look all that impressive. The original concept design, the whale thing, was much cooler than the final one. Cloverfield paradox and 10 Cloverfield Lane already spoiled that he's an alien placed here on Earth to grow and help them conquer the planet.

Added in 3 minutes 30 seconds:
In my honest opinion, Cloverfield felt insulting to Daikaiju Eiga. It felt like an attempt to make money without actually attempting to understand the genre outside of "monster attacks city and can not be stopped with conventional weapons". You can't even say it has a metaphor, because people didn't know that harvesting the sea beds nectar would have woken up anything, so it wasn't a way to criticise corporate greed and the exploitation of nature for profit. It was just...there.

Deep sea mining disrupting ecosystems, conglomerate companies doing shady things for greed, 9/11 allegories spread throughout, those were pretty much hammered home in the film, with the found footage aspect only adding to the realism. Surprised you didn't catch that on the rewatch. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the FF style of filming, especially not to the point of "killing the chance at filling the void", if anything it helped the genre and fit right in with the culture. I don't recall any movies from 2008 or before that had a giant monster with an untold origin destroy New York because it was a multi-million year old infant looking for it's mother while also carrying parasites that fill people with enough carbon dioxide to literally make them explode, followed by the nuclear annihilation of New York City.

I also don't see how you could say the Clover design is all that impressive but to each their own. Paradox and 10CL have nothing to do with Clover from 2008, Paradox only mentioned due to time warping, one Clover was taken from Earth and placed on a separate alternate earth (the mother), while the other earth had an alien attack. Which I'm pretty sure will be retconned as it never had much of an attachment to begin with.

It definitely wasn't insulting by any stretch of the imagination imo, and understood the genre more than 98% of the VS films we got in that decade.

Added in 1 minute 59 seconds:
The monster would not only fit in with the Monsterverse, but it'd give NYC a much needed monster to its name in this universe.
