Monster Toy Spotlight #34: Godzilla 1964 (Mosu-Goji)

Post by ebirahsmeg1 »

Hello everyone,

I haven't been able to find any takers for this week's spotlight, so since it's already Tuesday, I'll take this spotlight to keep things moving.

My favorite Godzilla design from two of my favorite Godzilla films (MothravsG & GTTHM), the Mosu-Goji suit is the most iconic of the entire series. I've been rather shocked that this hasn't been chosen for spotlight yet. So let's see your Godzilla 1964 figures :g64: :g64: :g64: :g64: :g64: :g64:

Sadly, I've rarely found a satisfactory sculpt in 8 inch/25cm scale, so I only have 1 figure type of this suit. Fortunately, however, the one figure I have is also one of my favorites of my collection, and one of the stronger G64 figures out there imho:

I have the original Bandai (a reissue at least) and the Memorial Box Bandai.

In addition to the black glossy Gigabrain G64 variant, I also have the normal/original variant of the first release:

Awesome Gigabrain variants KlenSeven! Seriously, I miss Gigabrain big time.

By the way, do you or anyone you know have the Marmit Iron Joe Mosu-Goji? I seriously want to see more of this elusive figure.

Here are some online reviews of, for me, one of the most disappointed figure Xplus 25cm line, the Xplus 25cm Godzilla 64. Sculpt itself is fine, but it's the only Godzilla Xplus 25cm figure that requires a God-d*amn stand    If only the strink down the Xplus 30cm figure down, and I would be in heaven

I wish they'd do some new sculpts. That purple one was just released from them this summer, so there's still hope.

The 30cm X-Plus is amazing, between that and the G'62 ...and the G'84... i gave up on being exclusive to the 25cm line and started mixing it up with which ever was the better sculpt.

Yeah, it's an awesome sculpt...can the mouth be posed opened? I've seen 30cm figures of the mouth both closed and opened, but I'm not sure if they separate sculpts or not.

Unfortunately, I'm one of those colletors who's a stickler for having everything in the same scale, regardless of line. It's lame, I know, and believe me, I wish I wasn't hung up on having matching scales :g2k:

Here are some online reviews of the 30cm figure

X-Plus 30cm Ric-Boy Godzilla 1964 (Fresh Vinyl)

Diamond Reissue Review(DiegoDoom) - The mouth is open on this one. Not sure I like the seams on the right side of the face when the mouth is opened.

Two separate sculpts. I think maybe the original release had swappable mouths, but the standard is open, the ric light up was closed and the reissue is open

here's a resin x-plus from the origins/chess piece line that was released in the US

Most everything is packed up for the move, I think I only have the blue glow G'64.

And before it was all packed up, here is a pic of my original 1984 Bandai Giant Monster Series Mosu-Goji Godzilla '64, in his "natural" battlefield setting!

p.s. As you can see in the lower right corner, the pink baby SD Mothra doesn't stand a chance!!

I have this one, among a few other figures of the 1964 suit, but I love classic Marusan and I love the Showa era, so this one is a must for me:

@KaijuZoo, that Giant Monster Series Godzilla 64 is truly fantastic. It's one of the only sculpts that I think really does the suit justice. I'd try to get ahold of one myself, but money is always tight and space is even tighter!

If space is tight, this one would not work out either!! This is a build-up and paint commission on the almost 4' ft tall Zeem Godzilla '64 kit that I completed earlier this year. The photo was taken at the UPS store as I was having them ship it back to my customer on the west coast.

Thanks for posting the Marmit MH photos KlenSeven. Due to how happy I am with the GB figure, I've always held off on picking up the MH Mosu-Goji...but I might have to reconsider. Very nice, stylized figure.

Here are some online reviews of the SHMA figure

^^ I love those Zacca Pap figs, wish I had the whole set.

And here is the partner red translucent Gigabrain G'64 to the blue one posted earlier, each released as toy show exclusives in 2007.
