Idk if I agree with that, surely the blockbuster scene actively reflected on 9-11. Say what you will about Chris Nolan, the dark knight, and it’s politics, the film is actively a investigation of a post 9-11 environment, it’s not even particularly subtle about it.
that's a good point. TDK was an interesting conversation about the Patriot act surveillance state, but I never really felt like it said a whole lot.

"What if the Patriot act, BUT the people in charge JUST used it for good this one single time?"

I feel like there's been exploration of 9/11 repercussions but I don't find a lot of it particularly sharp or effective. Just my opinion though, and I could definitely be forgetting something obvious.

There's your 9/11-inspired kaiju movie, full stop. I don't think you could approach the subject, literally or metaphorically, in any better way than what that movie did.
I felt like that movie offered more trauma porn with regard to 9/11 than it did any kind of perspective on its social and political causes/ramifications.
I think "trauma porn" might be a bit of a harsh judgment on it. Personally, I think it really manages to capture the on-the-ground, mass confusion feeling of the attacks like the footage seen in things like the Naudet Brothers' documentary. I'll agree it doesn't really comment on any of the sort of political or societal ramifications of the attacks and it most definitely is an entertainment/unique filmmaking style first movie but I think a lot of its production design and style were definitely made with heavy 9/11 inspiration in mind.

I don't think it's a perfect 9/11-inspired movie but I do think it manages to perfectly encapsulate feelings and emotions of the actual day itself rather than what came after the attacks. A "peri-9/11" movie, if you will.

"Trauma porn" was harsh. I suppose I was using that more to group it with a broader trend in storytelling than to comment on the work per se.

Tokyo, a smoldering memorial to the unknown, an unknown which at this very moment still prevails and could at any time lash out with its terrible destruction anywhere else in the world.

I'm not sure if this has already been talked about before—but has anyone here ever been on Twitter and found a discussion on what Kaiju would win against another Kaiju... ... ...and the moment you give your answer, some random peeps pop out of nowhere and start screaming "planet level", "city level", "star level" bullshit at you?

What the hell are they on about?

Something something power scaling. It’s a mildly agreed-upon system some people use to argue that their favorite curbstomps yours. Usually, I see it in anime circles to argue why Goku beats any character people can think of.

Bad battle board lingo. It's usually an attempt to categorize and/or wank certain characters to those vague levels. Mountain level is lower than planet level which is lower than star level etc.

In Godzilla, since SpaceGodzilla was born out of a black hole it is considered in that cosmic tier (Despite, you know, getting injured by Moguera's drills)

I blame Vs Battles Wiki. They've been doing this shit for years, and their mentality's clearly infected other people; I've seen similar comments on Twitter myself.
My most wanted fight ever is Discord vs Bobobo-bo bo-bobo.
Godzilla has a regen like Wolverine, a skin like Luke Cage, a hero aura like Captain America, a strength like Hulk, an unstoppability like Juggernaut, an immortality like Deadpool.

There's a 'God' in Godzilla for a reason...

This is just so cringey and creepy are these people attempting to live out their fantasies through Kaiju movies?

And also, I don't really see the problem with the first one. What's wrong with a movie "being gay"? I don't see the issue, or what makes it "cringe" or "creepy"

This is the franchise who’s second most famous character is a giant rainbow colored moth, I think it can survive a Twitter post about a pride flag, lol.

It does come off as creepy and cringe because it’s people that are obsessed with sexuality for whatever reason. Like what on earth does that have to do with giant monsters?

Clearly you haven't seen the Godzilla x Mothra fanfiction & fanart that's popped off since King of Monsters.

You're right, none of these movies have ever displayed any kind of romance or human sexuality and none of that stuff belongs in a giant monster movie. /s

Romance and sex can be applied to any characters and subjects these days if you choose to see it from a certain way or just have that kind of imagination. Even kaiju.

Would love to see the walking cold blooded reptilian nuke find love on a lakeside with a small martini in his hand. Hopefully a rather large Moth with big blue eyes finds the radioactive lizard charming.

Why couldn’t kaiju shippers stay on tumblr

Pretty much every Godzilla movie is about
a man and a woman getting together, what does that have to do with giant monsters? The original Godzilla movie is about a love triangle, what does that have to do with giant monsters? There's a comic where a straight couple have sex while Godzilla destroys their city, what does that have to do with giant monsters?

Why is it bad that there can be so many heterosexual couples/characters/moments in this franchise, but when someone says something about gays, it's suddenly not ok to be in a giant monster movie?

Careful, now. Don't tell 'em about the two women slow dancing in the original, Naoko Shindo having a "crush" on the princess in GTTHM, Goro and Hiroshi obviously being a couple and raising the former's brother in Megalon, the same-sex couple in one of the comics, the main character in Tokyo SOS being attracted to his bully, and, well, don't get me started on Final Wars.

Just going off the showa era, King Kong vs Godzilla, Mothra vs Godzilla, Godzilla vs the Sea Monster, Destroy all Monsters, Godzilla's Revenge, Godzilla vs Hedorah, Godzilla vs Gigan, Godzilla vs Megalon and Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla don't feature a hint of romance, so....
