Please please let this be a direct sequel to the first, or at least have Clover maintain a big presence in the plot.

It is supposed to be a direct sequel to the first. Also KDM said on Twitter the film finished filming weeks ago.

I am assume the plan is to release it this fall. Also, I think we might see a trailer on May 22.

January 2024 makes more sense to me personally.

Definitely hoping they've listened to the critiques by Clover enthusiasts.

Video from JoBlo.com about CLOVERFIELD ,its sequels. And the talk of a direct follow up on the horizon.

Right?! I love the idea of Clover being from the deep sea, not from outer space like in so many other movies (Super 8).

Aight so an update dropped. Basically

.Yes, this IS a direct sequel to the first movie, and Clover will be in it.
. No, it won't be found footage
. A possible direct sequel to 10 Cloverfield Lane may be in the cards.

Great news, I am hyped for it. Just rewatched the first one the other day, and Lane is always a good rewatch as well.

That’s all we ever wanted.

Wonder what the status on this actually is though. And if it’s not a found footage film I wonder what style it will more generally be in/what it will do to keep things engaging.

Clover as a corpse or still alive and wrecking shit?

I feel like they’re going to try and do a surprise trailer with a super fast release or something

Joe Barton recently claimed the next movie is in Dev Hell...but i am honestly a little skeptical given the secretive nature of this series.

Maybe it’s just me, but at this point, I think the Quiet Place franchise has more or less rendered Cloverfield obsolete as a brand.

Curious, why do you think that?
I unapologetically, wholeheartedly, and without a doubt hate Godzilla vs Kong.

I just mean that they’re both pretty similar thematically, but the Quiet Place movies have so far been more consistent.

The designs, or at least aspects of the designs, have also become a staple of "monster" in Hollywood. From Cloverfield to Super 8 to the Godzilla 2014 to A Quiet Place. With the long frontal arms, thinner body, black/grey skin, etc.

One thing to keep also keep in mind are the people BEHIND the camera/the money.

The Quiet Place Franchise has had John Krasinski behind every film in some way. Be it director, writer, producer, etc. I'm 99% sure I'm leaving out others who have influenced the franchise or have their fingerprints on it, but what I'm trying to say is there is a team that really likes these creatures/this world.

Cloverfield really hasn't had that same attention or behind the scenes push. Every film has a different director, theme, characters, etc.

Fair enough.
Really wish the franchise had, well probably stayed a one off instead of becoming a "franchise", but most especially wish it had stuck with the kaiju genre.

Director Babak Anvari seems to hint the Cloverfield sequel is still in the works during a recent interview at the SxSW film festival. Take it as you will.
