It is a touch silly about people getting bored with dinosaurs.
Anyway what I'm loving is all the moaning about "THERE WAS ALMOST NO VELOCIRAPTORS!" Yeah the design was good but I mean six movies with raptors?! We cant have them take a break for a film? This really is Patrick going 'you took my only food! Now I'm gonna starve!" meme.

Re: The Jurassic Park/World Series
I've been amused, but also somewhat charmed, by how distraught some people seem to be over the idea that Roberta/Blue/Beta might have died offscreen between Dominion and Rebirth. It's very pure, honestly.
I'm less taken with people distraught over the reset of the "dinosaurs across the world" thread from the two previous movies. Personally, I never felt that development sat right, either logistically or emotionally, and I was glad they did away with it. Not so much a lot of other folks, apparently.

Re: The Jurassic Park/World Series
Dinosaurs all over the world would be a double edged sword for future movies. It would open up new story options. Maybe, for example, we get a Tremors type situation where an isolated small town is taken over by a pack of raptors and the survivors have to fight back or escape. Theoretically, you might even do away with "dinosaur attack" scenarios and tell different kinds of stories in the JW setting. How about a kids' movie about a lovable loser trying to enter his pet Gallimimus in the Kentucky Derby? There are any number of stupid possibilities.
But, of course, that requires leaving behind the core idea of the Jurassic Park franchise, and risks watering the dinosaurs down into something less special. Which is arguably where we are at this point, anyway.

The JW films have also had ideas of man exploiting the dinosaurs. You could have a serious movie dealing with that theme and still have the dinosaurs get loose and run amok. I could easily see the less lethal dinosaurs being captured and people trying to tame them for some purpose, like racing or other entertainment.
The problem with doing nothing is that you never know when you're finished.

The Mutadons are the velociraptors. I mean functionally, they’re identical. Intelligent, fast, and deadly apex predators? The scene with them inside the little lab is almost identical to the end of Jurassic Park 1.daveblackeye15 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 12, 2025 6:10 pm It is a touch silly about people getting bored with dinosaurs.

This is why the mutants are so pointless. They’re in the movie just enough to sort of be cool, but then also not enough to be super memorable, and all the roles they are in could be fulfilled by normal Dinos.
For god sakes, at least have a d Rex vs mutadons scene.

Re: The Jurassic Park/World Series
I would have really liked a "turf war" kind of sequence, with the raptors and Mutadons having a violent territorial dispute at the station, and the humans needing to scramble out of the crossfire.
vs.
I do like the mutants, I think they're are a neat idea and their designs are fantastic, but I can definitely understand some folks wanting more "standard" dinosaurs for the flagship dinosaur franchise. I've actually had the thought that an interesting "final boss" creature for JW:R would have been another Therizinosaurus. A huge, belligerent herbivore chasing the cast for the finale would have been quite the change of pace.

I wanna see more sauropods or herbivores causing trouble always with the damn carnivores! Loved the titanosaurus sequence! But a part of me wished they got threatened and become dangerous.
I just feel like if they are going to do weird mutant dinosaurs they should be a little more creative than 'big albino theropod thing' I Rex. Or 'big raptor with sadist streak', Indoraptor. Beaked winged raptor and t rex fused with gorilla are way more interesting. Granted I would prefer just sticking to dinosaurs too. Well y'know Jurassic Park dinos are more 'we took some ancient blood and added toad and other stuff to try to replicate dinosaurs so they're not really dinosaurs.'

I guess dinosaurs seem scarier when they want to eat you. However, having a few Ceratopsians chase you, with the threat of impalement, would be just as dangerous. The same with sauropods possibly crushing you like a bug.

Re: The Jurassic Park/World Series
I saw 'Jurassic World: Rebirth' a week ago. And I can definitely say that it's easy to see where the naysayers/negative reviewers have been coming from. While the dinosaur scenes are all stellar (the T-Rex raft attack scene most of all, and except for the scenes with Dolores), the human cast isn't as engaging as the movie wants us to think they are (though I did like Henry Loomis well enough0. This includes the Hispanic family who were weren't the least bit necessary (on top of being kinda annoying). The whole 'separate parties trying to reunite' aspect could've been done just as easily with other members of the expedition. All that and the pharmaceutical CEO just came off as hollow and flat as a predictable villain. As for the mutants, I found the Mutadons serviceable Velociraptor substitutes, but people have been right in saying that the D-Rex (cool a design as it has and despite all the hype built around it) could've been replaced by any standard giant theropod in the climax, and it wouldn't have made any difference. Especially given how it doesn't figure into the plot the same way the I-Rex and Indoraptor did in their movies (however you may feel about them). On that note, it's a pity that Gareth Edwards got talked out of having the new T-Rex battling and killing the D-Rex at the end. In my book, it would've improved the film quite a bit, cliche status be damned. Certainly, given the bulky, muscular build of this film's rex, it's not hard to see how it could've gotten the job done.

Re: The Jurassic Park/World Series
I dunno I feel like having a dino vs hybrid battle each movie just makes it feel less special. It was hyp as hell in JW but after that when it became expected it became more diminishing...So I like the raptors not being in the movie much, I like the t rex getting just one scene, I like no battle, I like keeping most of the film regular dino action up until the finale. Only complaint is wishing we had a little more of the D Rex. Other wise happy with the tweaks for the most part.
