The Gaira, Sanda, Gigan, and Minus Goji set isn't out yet. There is however the "bust" set on the previous page, although I imagine that most people are excited/want the highgrade mini figs.

Yup, I'm hoping this line with include more obscure kaiju from Toho like Griffon (Latitude Zero), Dogora, Maguma, and the Yog trio.

The prior series did include some kaiju that were not from Godzilla films: Aqua Mothra, Desghidora, Armored Mothra, Cretaceous Ghidora, Baragon '65, Rodan '56, Gorosaurus '67, Moguera, and Varan. However the first 4 were included because the sets were released to coincide with the movie releases and the others are all monster who may no have started with Godzilla but did end up in film(s) with him. I'm pretty sure Sanda and Gaira are the first Showa kaiju in the HG line who have not eventually shared a screen with Godzilla in some form.

I would personally like to see a Manda from Atragon and maybe characters from the Rebirth of Mothra trilogy like Dagahra.

Guess I can rant about something: the Godzilla vs. Destoroyah HGDX set or whatever it's called. I'm talking about the set that is comprised of multiple bodyparts of Destoroyah and each capsule contains a military vehicle. I have photos of this all, and will edit them in later, but for now I just want to get this off my chest.

Anyways, around a week ago I found a set listing for all 6 pieces on Amazon for a lowish price at 2500 yen! Simple math dictates that was a good deal as 6x500=3000 yen. Even more expensive sellers were in that price range. Why is it so low? It's not like a ton of people are trying to get rid of Destoroyah parts, right? Technically it's not complete, it's missing the Burning Godzilla, but that's fine by me. I had zero interest, but hey if they're going to have 6/7 of the gashapon releases for that amount, why not right? I can build Destoroyah right?

So, I bought all the Destoroyah Pieces in one set, for what I thought was a steal, and then realized my MASSIVE miscalculation. Destoroyah's horn is included with the Burning Godzilla in it's capsule. Complete bullshit. It's hard to notice if you're just looking at the product on a digital webpage and it's something so ridiculous that you wouldn't notice it unless you were looking for it. Why would the horn, a very tiny piece, just not be included in the other bits? Is it not kind of strange that the Burning Godzilla is a complete figure in one package, but the rest of Destoroyah isn't?

Okay, so now I'm left with an incomplete Destoroyah. I'll get the horn and Burning Godzilla later, so let's just evaluate the Destoroyah.

It's...fine? The sculpt itself is nice. It manages to have a more-film accurate Destoroyah who is spiky, and proportionally has a big head. However, the plastic they used is this weird semi-transparent stuff that is a bit rubbery. The paint is pretty bad and in the end it feels a bit bootleggish. I know they're much more expensive, but recently I've been purchasing Art Spirits and the Godzilla Modeling kits. Those have problems, but the end result figures are pretty neat. This feels like a bad version of those, which feels gross with how much you have to get to assemble them.

As for the other figures in the set, they're weird. The military vehicles included are fine, but I'm starting to think they really should have just had capsules with 3x-5x the military vehicles/accessories. It's the only way to properly build up an army which doesn't result in multiple rounds of unneeded Destoroyah body parts. The small Juvenile Destoroyah is neat, and while made of the cheaper transparent plastic it's nice little figure to go along with the adult form. I wish they made a pack of only like 5 of these instead of forcing the Destoroyah gimmick.

The Aggregate Destoroyah is bad. I mean it's okay when assembled, but it's Legion Soldier all over again, with far more problems. It's incredibly difficult to assemble, requiring you to pivot and push really small pieces into really small holes, and the whole thing breaks apart while you try putting in other pieces. The Juvenile Destoroyah was one piece and I don't understand what was preventing them from making the Aggregate form one piece as well. Again, if they wanted to have cheap Destoroyah forms, I'd go for having them put 2-3 of these in a capsule instead of one and a large adult form figure.

So, I have an incomplete Destoroyah, which is okay, and a set of military vehicles and forms that are also okay. I thought to myself, "well if I can get the horn and Burning Godzilla, hopefully this won't be so bad..." right?

Nope! Everything I am seeing indicates that the Burning Godzilla/Horn is insanely rare(?). I'm not 100% on this, but it appears that they made the actual Burning Godzilla Capsule impossible to get/made it in extremely limited quantities compared to the other figures? All the other pieces in the set go from 500-800 yen secondhand individually. On Mandarake, the one listing of the Horn and Burning Godzilla went for 3000 yen! That's insane for a gashapon figure and highly unusual. Considering that "Complete Sets" (all 7) are going for such a high price on Amazon, I can only imagine that they made the Burning Godzilla with Destoroyah's horn super rare. This, on top of the fact that you also need to collect all of Destoroyah's parts, makes it super difficult to actually have any remote chance of making it. I imagine that actually using a gashapon machine to get all the necessary components is a complete scam and runs the possibility of you actually draining the machine of all the capsules without having a complete figure.

This absolutely sucks, and I'm glad that by the looks of it, nothing like this has been released since. I thought the 6 parts for Destoroyah was a scam within itself, but the "include the small horn with Godzilla" makes it far worse. Do not buy.

Here's my theory:
Originally this was one bigger set or even two separate sets. You may recall there was a previously released set based around the military vehicles, Super X1 and Super X2. They were 300 yen a pop, and decent for what they were. I highly suspect originally the Burning Godzilla was going to be like Destoroyah. You'd get 6 pairs of (Burning Godzilla) parts alongside small military figures. The military vehicles in both sets are made of the exact same plastic and scale nicely with each other. However, at some point, something changed, and they decided to separate the sets. Burning Godzilla got lumped in the Destoroyah set. No clue why, perhaps they thought it wouldn't sell? Or that having two sets with build a figures would do poorly?

However, there's an obvious problem with doing this. If Burning Godzilla had the same "odds" as the other pieces, you'd have a very very lopsided set, where one out of the 7 gashapons has the exact same amount of plastic and bulk as the entirety of the figure you're trying to assemble (Destoroyah). So, they made the Burning Godzilla figure super rare to cut costs. Some insane person decided to include the horn with Burning Godzilla to make it incredibly difficult to just buy a complete set and have a Destoroyah figure.

If I could have my perfect "Godzilla vs. Destoroyah Set" here's what I'd do:
Destoroyah Adult
Burning Godzilla
Destroyah Flying+ Super X3
Destroyoah Aggregate
Godzilla Junior and some small Destoroyah Juveniles

If they wanted to, they could change things around a bit, and still have the build a figure concept. However, they really screwed up this release and concept remarkably well.

No, according to the pamphlet the part that makes it glow, called the “luminous unit” is sold separately. The pamphlet makes explicit mention as that as a part sold separately from the burning Godzilla fig.

Even when it first came out, I noticed Burning Godzilla's price was climbing steadily. I was not sure if they made it a chase figure or something like that, but with what you said I think you're right.

They did one other HGX (crossover) set with Tyrant being the collect-all-parts figure. I'm curious if that set has a similar situation.

Looking at it, the Tyrant set seems a lot better because at least you’re guaranteed a minifig. With the Destoroyah set you get something super small, at best an Aggragate Destoroyah and a Destoroyah part that is worthless on its own.

Anyways I’m scouting for the Gaira release.

I mean, it's better than nothing, but my main thing in hoping for a Rebirth set was, you know, was getting small scale figures of the monsters themselves, not a bunch of Gameras and a Gyaos fetus (why?). Between Gashapon, Konami, and Iwakura, you can build a very solid collection of pretty much everybody in the Gamera franchise - even the dudes from Gamera vs. Garasharp! Unfortunately I don't think we'll be getting a good 2"-3" Rebirth set.

I will admit that Gamera himself looks pretty fierce though for a 3" figure.



Maybe they'll do another set, but even if they do, we wouldn't get all the monsters. Ah well.

I just heard about the set too and I agree with you. Thought "Oh nice a Rebirth set, lots of cool designs in there!" Then I saw image. Gamera - I figured there would be 2 since the last sets each had 2, but three is a bit much. Gyaos - well its kinda one of the new kaiju, very surprised they used the infant version. I only really remember it from the one scene. I'm hoping that since they are going with such an obscure reference that its a sign they are saving the others for a future set. When I saw it, my first though was a behelit from Berserk lol.

This probably also means there wont be a Gamera 3 set to go with the other 2, but Bandai can do what they want (like mix it in with another Rebirth set). Nothing is really outside the realm of possibility.

I'm just doing my part as a fan and collector to spread the word! There seems to be some well-off collectors on this forum where that cost might not be prohibitive who might want to get there hands on the rarest Godzilla HG gashapon set.

On your unrelated note, there is a pre-order up on eBay now that says the release date is 12/16/23. Not sure if that's local for the seller (listed as Ogaki, Gifu, Japan) but good luck, hope this info helps!
