Hammy, who in the hell is that in your avatar? Looks very familiar....Woodpecker-Machinder?

No, it is large robots vs. gargantua-esque leviathan robots.BigBaragon wrote:Does a giant robo fight a giant monster at any point in the film?

I asked kpa about this a while back and IIRC no one has picked up the license yet. I asked about both Yamato Takeru and Gunhed, but I don't fully remember. You can buy it on Rightstuf like I did. Says it's only $11 right now, so that's a cheap way for you to go. Sadly, the release itself isn't that great, with mediocre audio but more importantly, it's not anamorphic widescreen, so you get black bars on all sides if you watch it on a widescreen TV. The picture is a little brown-ish green too, which so is much of the movie, but it seems overly so (dunno if that is a legitimate complaint though). For the cheap price it's worth it to see it though. It's not a great movie but has some great special effects. Along with Biollante it was one of the last Toho SPX movies with Hollywood grade visuals.Rody wrote:I tend to be hesitant about R rated films. That's all.
Well, I'm glad to hear that's not true. Now I just need to FIND this movie..........
I wonder if anyone has picked up the license for it yet, since ADV is no longer around.
I'd like separate packages, but I hear you. Shout! Factory would be a good candidate. If Media Blasters has stabilized then them as well, but they may not be interested in Toho productions for a long time, if ever. Maybe Echo Bridge too, for example.Rody wrote:I bet YT and Gunhed would make a decent double-pack release.
Ohhhh, Shout Factory....

Yes. If there is something good about this film other than the SFX, it is the soundtrack.
Yeah I don't really like the movie that much, but since it's fondly remembered in terms of special effects it'd be nice to get a HD remaster in anamorphic widescreen with great audio. One can only dream.Lain Of The Wired wrote:Gunhed, damn... I barley remember it, though I wish it was released on Blu ray

I'd rather all those those get the treatment before Gunhed, make no mistake. But that doesn't mean I don't want Gunhed to as well.Goji wrote:It's kind of comical seeing the phrase "one can dream" being applied to wishing that GUNHED gets an HD release.![]()
Sure, maybe after MATANGO, THE H-MAN, GORATH and a plethora of much better movies get HD releases.

Oh I'm not waiting and expecting it will come anytime soon. It's just the sake of discussion here.Goji wrote:I can understand that, but I wouldn't hold my breath for such a thing. Toho hasn't even begun to bring some of their more popular B-tier titles to BD (The 70's Godzilla films, etc.) thanks to (supposedly) sluggish sales in Japan. I can imagine GUNHED is a very low on their list.
