Hm I wouldnt be against the idea of a FW continuation/reference...just as long as it isn't 80 percent human characters fighting and 20 percent Godzilla.

Hope they adapt this into an anime. Looks interesting.
*edit*
BTW, what the fuck is with those crystal-spines? Are they making Godzilla into a rock-based creature this time around?

Looks like Young Champion's sharing the chapters online, which is really convenient: https://youngchampion.jp/series/20a59d2babf28/

Cool. I just went out searching for it, but couldn’t find a copy. Probably went out too early.GigaBowserG wrote: ↑Mon May 26, 2025 11:19 am Looks like Young Champion's sharing the chapters online, which is really convenient: https://youngchampion.jp/series/20a59d2babf28/
Anyways the new monster isn’t Gigan. It’s called “Volga”, although there might be some other ways to interpret that. He does look like Gigan, but his main weapon now seems to be a super heated saber. Likewise there’s some weird beam from his eye.
First issue was okay. Feels like just a set up to the monster and scenario. Godzilla isn’t in it all that much.

Without looking any kanji up:imposterzilla wrote: ↑Tue May 27, 2025 12:32 am So Volga huh? What exactly is going on for those who can read this?
-Young girl reflects on the day Godzilla opened her eyes, seemingly destroying things in the first few pages.
-cut to a group of ships returning to earth after a long voyage. The main guy is commenting how small the earth is, how peaceful the ocean is, and how he’s excited to see his children again. His commander warns him to be alert until they reach earth.
-Suddenly a strange craft appears. They fire Star breaking missiles at it. The missiles seem to disappear when they reach something Volga is encased in, which has appeared in front of the craft.
-Volga destroys the ships.
We cut to the school, where a student is late, having been at the “giant organism research laboratory”. They haven’t had time to change out of their clothes. The two classmates make fun of her, while the teacher is annoyed. She takes off her protective suit. Her name is “Kaidou Miyu”, which can be translated to ocean road.
-Something about a 100m organism appearing in 1954, causing a great disaster, and leading to innovations and scientific development. I need to check the kanji later. I’m unclear if Godzilla is the problem, or actually saved the day. I’m leaning towards the latter.
-I think the teacher starts disagreeing with Kaidou about Godzilla and its role in the world. I can’t tell exactly what the disagreement is, but I think whether he’s good or bad. In any case, the students start to privately admonish Kaidou for always arguing with the teacher. There’s something strange about her educational background “She was in college, but now she’s back in hs?”. In any case, she’s some misfit with a weird history.
I think Kaidou can understand Godzilla, and the debate becomes about Godzilla destroying/saving Shinjuku 8 years ago. It changes when the teacher asks Miyu if she feels good by being so scared/affected by Godzilla. The teacher quashes the awkwardness by saying she and everyone else should work hard to beat Godzilla.
-she looks at everyone and it seems to portray their thoughts. I can’t tell if it’s just a stylistic choice, but she may be psychic. For example, some students are thinking “Oh god don’t look at me”.
-Ship lands in the school courtyard. We get introduced to the male protagonist who knows Miyu. His name is Oyama Shinya. They joke and seem to know each other “should take a taxi next time”. Evidently a situation is developing in space, and GATO (the defense team) is summoned. They go to the GATO command in Japan.
-There, we meet the commander. Yoshida Kuni. He’s interested in advice about the space monster from Kaidou. Volga has some unique ability that allows it to remain unrecordable by video cameras and other sensors.
-They discuss Volga, how it wiped out the ships, and how it’s a space monster.
Long and short of it: Volga attacks, destroys a lots, pretty much impossible to defeat despite super advanced weaponry. Volga’s arm can heat up to extreme temperatures allow it to slice through buildings with ease. After being bombared from the sky by special bio missiles, Volga’s “helmet” opens up revealing a weird black hole like appendage that fires beams.
Godzilla appears.
WIP
I actually finally got the print manga. It came with a cool poster and some extra info on Godzilla and Volga. Godzilla is noted to have “buzz saw like scales” to note how tough it is. Also, it seems like the spines are actually crystal, though let’s wait and see. Data confirms Volga’s English name and ability to avoid being recorded.

Covering the woman on the cover’s massive…uhhh dimension tides:

...JK JK. In all seriousness, I hope this eventually gets translated and has a proper English release. The whole premise and the designs are some of the coolest things I've seen come out of the franchise in years. I'd like to own actual copies of it.

Was not expecting a gravure jumpscare when I clocked in today
Anywho, seeing the Godzilla design in the manga and now Nishikawa's concept art has definitely warmed me up on it. Volga also looks really sick, although I will say I do kinda prefer how it looks in Ishiguchi's art style compared to Maruyama's.

Well, you can really tell that enemy monster is designed by the Heisei Ultraman guy! Very easy to imagine Ultraman Tiga fighting this thing.

Pointed out elsewhere, but the design seems reminiscent to Kaiser Gyrares XIII from a 2018 Ultraman novel, also designed by Hiroshi Maruyama.Angilasman wrote: ↑Tue May 27, 2025 2:17 pm Well, you can really tell that enemy monster is designed by the Heisei Ultraman guy! Volga looks very Gigan-inspired. Could there be a connection?

Volga looks like if Melba had a baby with Kyrieloid.

Re: Godzilla Galaxy Odyssey, new manga coming May 27th
It does have a very similar outline/form to Gigan. But, I think they’ve done a lot to indicate it’s pretty different. No buzzsaw, and it’s only got one large saber (not hook!). It’s wings disappear when it’s on the ground. That, and its ability to be unrecordable by monitors.LegendZilla wrote: ↑Tue May 27, 2025 8:35 pm Volga looks very Gigan-inspired. The concept art looks a lot more gnarly too, much more twisted, and a ton of weird “beaks” coming out of its back. This shouldn’t surprise anyone, but I’m guessing Volga probably has many tricks/forms up its sleeve we haven’t seen yet. To me, it feels like some fleshy creature wearing a suit of armor/tools.
I thought about it, but unless it’s something obscure like Dogora, I realized I’d be happy if it’s just Godzilla, Volga, and other new monsters. The issue establishes a lot of “new stuff” and they seem to be veering into fully embracing totally new Godzilla stuff. As much as I like a lot of the IDW and American comics, it’s somewhat refreshing to see something like this that is content with establishing its own unique universe. Of course there’s the other upcoming Kai-sei-era Godzilla stuff.

I’d be very surprised if we don’t get references to some more obscure kaiju. Nishikawa’s doujins are chock full of references to the series. I like Volga. I hope this does get a western release somehow and that we can get some good merch of Volga and GOGoji.

Can you either post or point me towards a scan of that textless manga cover? It's so beautiful

By manga cover…you mean the one of the folder? I believe there’s a splash page, but without the characters:cloverfan98 wrote: ↑Wed May 28, 2025 10:57 am

Added in 2 minutes 10 seconds:
Given manga’s popularity in America now, I think an official English translation is very likely. Unless this ends up being 60 chapters or something ridiculous, I wouldn’t expect it until the manga is mostly complete.
That’s the next biggest question: how long is this planned to be? Issue 1 had a decently slow pace. I assume chapter 2 will just be about the big fight between Godzilla and Volga, and maybe begin to rally towards space. Nothing like the new gotengo has been shown at all, and we aren’t even on some big voyage.
