Spoiler:
Since it's a "potential" sequel and we don't know if Anno would be back, it's best not to get TOO excited yet, though

Getting Anno involved will probably be the determining factor as to whether it happens or not

I just got really excited, and sent Jomei a message, before realizing the source is the same Bloomberg article as before.

While we can’t bin the shin, I’d temper expectations and calm down before anything.

While awesome if true, we definitely need more confirmation.

Even some sort of small project would be neat, doesn't have to be a full-on sequel to get me excited.

Agreed. Expectations should be tempered.

We don't know what this means precisely just yet, and Anno is the real determining factor about whether it would have that special factor some love and others hate.

It's fun to imagine having so much quality Godzilla content, though.

If Toho really does decide to make a sequel to this movie, I think Biollante would be a good fit for this particular continuity.

This is going to sound silly but I hope Anno goes full bananas and the humanoid angelic beings coming out of Godzilla's tail go on an apocalyptic rampage and everyone dies.

I want to see some End of Evangelion shit (but I know I won't get it).

Exactly. People are so quick to forget 2004-2014, the ten year drought of ANYTHING Godzilla related. To think we would be blessed with this much variety and choice after so long is incredible.

The question is, do they make it politically heavy, which is one of the reasons why it did so well in Japan, or do you go with a more sci-fi approach.

I’d just like to state another thing I noticed, which makes me a little sus about all this. In the article, the $15 million budget for Minus One is mentioned. Yamazaki has disputed this, saying it’s a little lower. I’m just wondering if the reporter/writer of the article might have misunderstood something one of the Toho staff said, or is regurgitating wrong fan information. Bloomberg is prestigious though, so I don’t think that’s the case.

Don’t force it either way. If this is really happening, then Anno should do whatever he feels inspired by the most, and not feel boxed in. I do think that if they eventually do a sequel, it’ll resemble more of what the “Shin” crossovers look like; more fantastical in nature. Anno also has a good track record of making sequels/follow-ups that are satisfying, but also not exactly what people expect/think they want.

It’ll be interesting to see what they do with the design. You can’t leave it the same. There’s just too much money to be had with toys etc, and people wont just buy the same design again. Minus One sequel will have to change it a bit too, but at least it’s regenerating so you can answer for that.

All speculative of course until more information comes about. I think you do need to get Anno involved again. What is he doing the next few years?

Yeah, wouldn't be the first time. We still get people asking "Whatever happened to 'World of Godzilla'?" after all these years despite how many times we've had to explain the "cinematic universe" thing was a mistranslation.

I think it was much more the execution rather than it had a political angle.

I doubt anno would retread the first movie, I think it would have the same style but narrative would probably be very different. I would like to see a new Japan that learned from the terrible way they handled the first attack by wasting time on red tape and now has more efficient procedures but are now faced with a Godzilla that has also evolved to deal with their freezing plan.

Hard to believe that next would've been 10 years from Shin's release if they make another one I wonder if they'll have a 10+ year time jump.

For fans of Shin I hope you all get a sequel worthy of your praise.

If It gets confirmed I will see it, have an open mind and hope I like the sequel more than the first film personally.

Overall it makes sense in theory.

Yamazaki knocks out the Minus One sequel and he's off to Hollywood.

Anno can then come in and perhaps get the Shin sequel out by 2028 maybe 2029.

The Monsterverse will then hit 2030 assuming Supernova isn't a flop.

There is also the potential Southeast Asian project thay could be whatever and might not be Godzilla related at all.

This would give Toho plenty of time to meet up with another new director and get their vision of Godzilla potentially.

Wouldn't mind Shin Godzilla vs. Shin Ultraman. Would be both a good capper for Anno & Higuchi's Shin project, plus what better way to have two of the most iconic Japanese pop figures face-off? The fact that both characters are so phenomenally powerful would make for a good match, plus I think it would take very little massaging for the two continuities to mesh.

As a short film to advertise the movie like the God Warrior short I'd be all for it. But I think there's alot lost in wasting the sequel by making it a vs film, especially a crossover like that.
