My kids have a couple of them and I’ll admit they’re nicer than I thought they would be (but still very much overpriced). One they have is the glow in the dark dancing Godzilla ‘65 from Monster Zero which glows extremely well, and I’m a total sucker for good GitD toys. So I was tempted to look at just collecting GitD ReActions but I see I missed out on some major players (MechaGodzilla, King Ghidorah, etc.) and so abandoned that idea quickly.

Yesterday I happened to see the Minus One and ‘89 Godzilla ReActions in Walmart and I was genuinely surprised at how good the sculpts are. I feel like they’ve made some significant improvements to the sculpt quality. Again was rather tempted to take them home with me but the sticker shock ($40 for two 4 inch figures?) was enough to keep me in check.

Just some random thoughts I guess. They keep trying to suck me into this line but I’ve been able to resist so far.
It sounds like the right kaiju might push you over the edge. You don't need another Godzilla or Mechagodzilla, but what about Gargantuas? Kamoebas? What's your vice?
Oh that’s easy, I’ve said it before. A Glow G’84 would absolutely break my will power. And after seeing the sculpts in person a glow ‘89 or MinusGoji probably would too. But it’s highly unlikely I’d ever get deep into the ReAction line. Like so many, Bandai vinyl are my bread and butter. And with the quality they’ve been pumping out (both in sculpt and kaiju choice) the last few years they’ll remain my primary collection for years to come. Heck, it’s gonna take me years just to catch up on what’s already been released and I’m not even a completist.

But I could definitely be tempted to have a little set of glow reactions.

I would love to see some aliens like the Simians from Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, the Xians from Monster Zero, and the Kilaak from DAM. Showa Shobijn would be pretty rad too.

I'd also like to see Manda coiled around the Atragon.

I totally get that. They can be fun as the occasional one-off especially if they make a specific Kaiju you really like. But the price can be off-putting for some. I am all in because this is the ONLY Godzilla merch I collect. I had every Japanese Bandai Vinyl from the late 80's to 2006. Sadly I had to sell them in 2007, and I figure Ill never get them back again. For me the ReActions are small enough they dont take up much space, and while they may not be worth $20 to some; $20 on its own, isn't that big an investment for me, so i can handle it. But yeah lots of Blind boxes coming out in succession, does make it tough. I'm thinking with the what had happened over the past few weeks, things will definitely slow down. Which is fine, as long as they dont end. There are still some great characters I'd want to see, at the very least the complete cast of DAM... but its not up to me unfortunately.

I've seen the same complaint for Godzilla ReActions, though to a much lesser extent.
Frankly, I have the opposite complaint regarding repaints.

Not that I can afford everything, but I'm generally a transparent fan, and despite the theater version here and there, there are still MMS (and prior Bandai vinyl series) molds that were never done in such a variant. Super7 eventually getting around to doing their original ReAction molds in a transparent version sets them above in that area; or at least have up to now. Actually, them prioritizing GITD variants is even more impressive, although I dig transparents more.

Still jonesing for that Gabara and Showa Manda...

^I decided to go the opposite (kind of), and went small. I got 4 of the wave 9 blind boxes (3+1 "free"), although the total was just over $60, so the "free" one was basically taxes, shipping and traiffs. I reasoned if I get 3 of the 5, or (less likely just the 2 rare ones) it will be worth it.

Saw my first Godzilla ReActions at Walmart this morning. Somehow they are way bigger than I expected. Not sure why I thought they'd be smaller.

Well my strategy worked this time. I received my items from the S7 Memorial Day sale. Of 4 Wave 9 Blind Boxes, I got: the 1/12 Powder Blue variant (which was my goal). The Vintage Tribute, and 2 Cherry Blossoms (which I can confirm look more orange than pink). So I just need the common 54 Poster variant 3/12, and the semi-rare Island Snow variant 2/12, which shouldn't be too outrageously priced on the secondary market.

Sure has been quiet for the ReAction main line lately. I would have thought we'd hear about the next wave or some new glow in the dark versions by now. Though I guess SDCC is coming up next month. I'm very curious how much of the next wave will be Showa vs Heisei.

Standard wave 8 was released back in February, but since then there have been multiple Blind Box waves, and other variants. I would imagine standard wave 9 is imminent, especially since the very last ReAction I need is shipping to me currently, and should be in my possession in a few days, The Universe/S7 I don't think will let me ever get "caught up" 8-) . Plus Im sure there will be a few exclusives coming for SDCC. maybe because of the current situation, not as many as last year. But if I had to speculate I'd think a Glow KC, and Titanosaurus would be on the horizon. Perhaps a Glow Minus One and/or a Minus Color variant. Maybe some more surprises...

For fans of Ultimates, S7 still hasn't shown the Godzilla which was supposed to initially come with Battra and Mothra back in February. I'm sure some news will be inbound soon.

It used to be 6 months between waves, probably because the waves were bigger. I would expect Wave 9 in Q3 - maybe during SDCC but I don't think so.

Super7 has laid off a lot of their design staff, though a great many projects were/are done and probably just need factory time. No word yet on how much/if these setbacks extended to the production sides, or what lines were impacted. The loss of the Disney/Simpsons licenses were openly reported, but a lot of stuff like Transformers Ultimates just quit without a word, so there's no guarantee we'll know for sure what has or hasn't ended except in hindsight.

A update from my video in March of 2024 (when there were only 60 ReActions). Now 15 months later, there are 132! Thanks mostly to several Blind Box assortments. Also unlike March 2024, we knew a couple more waves were coming. As of this writing, while intellectually we know more will be revealed eventually, there have been no vender leaks, or S7 teases of any kind. I'm sure that will change soon.

So here is S7 Tease for SDCC:

Image

I'm terrible with guessing games. Not sure if it is teasing anything specific, or that it is just guaranteeing there will be some Godzilla offerings for SDCC? Last year for ReAction we got the Aurora kit in Box, Glow Anguirus and Baragon, another Hedorah Variant, and the Godzilla/Jet Jaguar Handshake set. For Ultimates we got the Shogun inspired by the OG Jumbo Toy (Red/Black). S7 had exclusives for other IP as well

Again, not sure if the state of the market adjusted any of S7 releases for SDCC but if I had to venture guesses... ReAction Minus One (Minus Color and/ or Glow), another Minus One Ultimates (Train Biter, or maybe the post beam "burned" version, that would be pretty unique), ReAction Glow King Caesar & Titanosaurus, and another *surprise* that cannot be anticipated.

If that image is a hint, I would guess either a carded "train-biter" Reaction Minus One or an "train-biter Ultimates! Minus One.
Maybe even a boxed Reaction "train-biter" to make a little diorama in the package like the first release of the skeleton and the "handshake" set.
