The new match is alright... Not really bad enough to complain about, but not really good ether.
Nice banner tho!

I thought it was decent. I liked the pairing though. As someone pointed out it had a real sea vs Air theme. I did a Earth vs Air battle. Though it's a little harder to place opposites in proximity I think it can give a match a unique atmosphere.

New match! https://www.tohokingdom.com/blog/k-w-c- ... -obsidius/
New writer as well, and it’s a pretty fun debut. I like the dynamic at play here between the two, King Ghidorah’s frustration at Obsidius’ everything is a joy to read.

This match has the same vibes as King Arthur fighting the Black Knight from Monty Python.

For a second I thought the Side Trips were being cancelled and I was all "Geez, they just introduced these things and they're cancelling them already? Were they that unpopular?"KWC Side Trips - No More

I liked the Ghidorah match alot. It was really well written and fun. Great action. And it's always best to actually get a view inside the Kaiju's head and learn what's going on in there. Or in Obsidius's case, largely the lack of what is going on. Although I personally find the regeneration and energy absorption powers of Ghidorah make him unfair and way overpowered, he has a deadly arrogance to him that really rams home how apocalyptic he is. The writer managed to nail both Ghidorah's true nature and humble him at the same time. That was a masterfully done story.

Yep. Definitely a Monty Python reference (also someone finally referenced the Cerasini novels).Nickel Smart wrote: ↑Sun Jul 20, 2025 8:38 pm This match has the same vibes as King Arthur fighting the Black Knight from Monty Python.

Thanks for the warm welcome folks! Been enjoying the KWC for over a decade and I am jazzed to finally join it!
I noticed we had an arrogant king and a dark colored armored warrior who would be hilarious to write as someone too dumb to give up. Only this time, sheer determination spurs a rage quit!
I was also homaging the unpublished "Godzilla and the Lost Continent" by having Obsidius unwittingly stop into Raijin's role.
I kinda like how Chen also ironically also has similar vibes, assuming a lot of Obsidius when in reality... just random mutant chunk of magma
I got some more fights in the pipeline so very much looking forward to those
Thanks! And yeah that was easily my favorite part to pen. Obsidius is very stubborn to actually get badly hurt and showing that via Ghidorah was hilarious.GodzillavsRayquaza wrote: ↑Sun Jul 20, 2025 7:47 am New match! https://www.tohokingdom.com/blog/k-w-c- ... -obsidius/

Perfect. Utterly perfect way to sum up that fight once Ghidorah realized he wasn't dealing with divinely ordained guardian or ancient protector... but just a very stubborn rock lol

Very glad my characterization (or lack thereof) came off so well. I really did enjoy Legendary Ghidorah's powers, but I do feel like the regen was a bit over hyped. Then I noticed Obsidius' game abilities (health drain and extremely high energy resistance) didn't got a lot of focus. Legendary Ghidorah is an absolute powerhouse and would be extremely hard to put down, but I sorta realized Obsidius is as good a counter as one could want. They are extremely hard to hurt, energy drain counters regen, and they can shrug off the gravity beams not because the beams aren't strong, but just because of their properties. So helped me show Ghidorah as suitably extremely powerful, while also letting Obsidius catch him as off-guard as I think they did plenty of readers.mpsoldier wrote: ↑Mon Jul 21, 2025 6:50 am I liked the Ghidorah match alot. I think we as KWC writers should do more of that. Have a Kaiju win not because they are more powerful but because they somehow counter their opponent. We've got plenty of Kaiju like Kong or Mothra who can plan and strategize. Or ones like Varan who can operate well in practically any environment. Let's see some brains winning a fight..
