Re: Stranger Things
A lot to unpack today. The long awaited Season 4 to STRANGER THINGS will be making its debut. But the season will be split into two parts.
Part One will debut on Netflix May 27, 2022, and the second half of the long, long, long awaited Fourth Season will emerge July 1, 2022. As some may know, the Duffer Brothers have said Season 5 will the show's final season.(https://bloody-disgusting.com/tv/370401 ... nal-season)
The"Dear Mike" trailer.
And four Season 4 posters for the four stories colliding into each other.

Re: Stranger Things
I watched this with my daughter of the course of the week. I ended up liking it on the whole, but yeah.
Things I liked:
- I got a good chuckle out of Erica showing up for the Hellfire Club campaign draped in the American flag, because you can't spell "America" without "Erica."
- While the big reveal in Episode 7 was more or less telegraphed as early as Episode 5, the big reveal in Episode 5 is one I certainly didn't see coming.
- As usual, Steve Harrington is THE MAN!
- I like the story giving more for Suzie to do this time around. Her Mormon household--which church I belong to--is certainly amusing.
- The use of the internet was interesting. I liked how nobody knows what Suzie is talking about when she discusses it, being 1986 and all--and yes, this is the same year that Jumpin' Jack Flash came out, which also dealt with the Internet in its earliest forms.
- I liked how Murray's informed attribute of being a black belt in karate comes in handy.
- As goofy as Steve was when he showed up at the video store at the end of Season 3, I did appreciate that he has grown into that job. And the fact that he said Fast Times... was one of his favorite movies actually came up when searching for girlfriends for Robin. I guess lots of girls became women (as much as boys became men) because of the infamous Phoebe Cates scene.
- I liked the backstory about Hopper that we got, which goes a long way to explain why his attempt at a family ended in tragedy.
- I also liked how Episode 7 does explain so much about El's and Season 1's backstory;
Things I didn't like:
- Up until Episode 5, the show was so grimdark that it started to not be fun anymore;
- Too many subplots, especially the Army vs. Scientists one;
- I didn't care for Jonathan becoming a pothead;
- I also think the introduction of Nancy considering the possibility of returning to Steve is unnecessary;
- Despite episode 7 being 100 minutes long, why completely forget about the Jonathan/Mike/Will/Argyle plot thread?

Re: Stranger Things
All right, lots of good stuff this season. I'm much more invested than I was in either of the last two seasons.
In response to H-Man's last two points:
- Of course it's unnecessary, and therefore paradoxically becomes necessary. Emotionally traumatizing Steve is one of the primary goals of this show, so of course they're going to give him hope and then yank it away. Again.
- Team J/M/W/A is just driving out to El's coordinates right now, and can't really interrupt Project Nina yet, so there isn't a lot for them to do.

Re: Stranger Things
Finally watched the season premier. A few comments on the music.
I'm glad that Kate Bush is getting increased attention, because she rules, but the use of "Running Up That Hill" was a bit too... on the nose.
And Eddie? Eddie is not a character who merits even one Cramps song, much less two. I am offended on behalf of the late Lux Interior and Nick Knox.
EDIT: Also, it's odd that even though the Cramps put out an album in 1986, A Date With Elvis, both of the songs used in the episode are from their 1980 debut album, Songs the Lord Taught Us.

Tokyo, a smoldering memorial to the unknown, an unknown which at this very moment still prevails and could at any time lash out with its terrible destruction anywhere else in the world.

Re: Stranger Things
Season 4 was a huge improvement over Season 2 and 3. Those felt like they were 'phoned in' in a lot of ways. Too wrapped up in a bit of nonsense.
Season 4 feels much closer in quality to the first season. Production value blows it away, but the cinematic quality of the storytelling has improved a lot. The Duffer Brothers are clearly always looking for ways to improve and do better and are not content to just ride the wave of hype granted by the first season.

I enjoyed the series. Somewhat predictable, but a cool story none the less and executed quite well.

Re: Stranger Things
Maybe. Either that or this season ends with them being sent to the far out future of 2022. Although who knows what the two hour and nineteen minute finale for Season 4 might end up delivering.LegendZilla wrote: ↑Fri Jun 10, 2022 10:42 pm Do you people think that the series' final season will be 1989?

Man, the ending of season 4 episode 7 sure does dedicate a lot of time to spelling out something that they've already made abundantly clear...

Re: Stranger Things
It was pretty blunt, but I guess it's a crucial plot point and there are a lot of kids in the audience... I can understand wanting to make sure everyone correctly interprets what's being revealed there.

Just curious… does anyone else thinking that there’s one last villain twist? We’re lead to believe Vecna is The Mind Flayer… but I’m still hoping it turns out the Mind Flayer has been using Vecna.
