What a pity and quite baffling (though not shocking, sadly) how many are choosing to completely ignore this amazing series in favor of GvsMarvel and JLvsGvsK2...while I generally like the current Marvel books (No comment on the whole DC/MV snoozefest though -_- ), the overall gap between the HTBD saga those two series (as well as Heist....or any other post-2020 G comic for that matter) is wider than the Grand Canyon...and yet it's usually met with total apathy. SMFH....anyways...

Overall, another great issue, though I do have few bones to pick with it.

Things I liked:

- Megalon! :Megalon: He's been criminally under-utilized in these IDW books through the years. Was not expecting to see him pop up. Hope we see the Seatopians alongside the Black Hole aliens mentioned in issue #1 in the war with the Xiliens. :antonio:

- Gigan and SG are on the scene. I'm glad they resisted the urge to go with the GFW version of Gigan and stick with the classic Showa version instead. Looking forward to see them let loose to wreck havoc in issue #3 alongside Megalon. :Gigan: :Spacegodzilla:

- Again, Frank Tiere is far superior than most G authors (be it IDW, Marvel, or the DC/MV snoozefest) with writing interesting, engaging characters: One-eyed Henry Hull, Francis Walsingham, Blanco (HTBD) Mortimer Lane, Thomas Jefferson, Aaron Burr (SOG), and now Bob Jones, Dr. Kyoto, and Director Stone in HTBA. In contrast, I couldn't tell you the name of a single character in the majority of post-2020 comics if you held a gun to my head.

- Interesting little twist that the "Grendel" version of Hedorah from SOG was defective and rebelled against the evil Hedorah probes. While I still think the "Hero* role does not suit Hedorah at all, it does make it somewhat more palpable. :Hedorah:

- Again, I am a history buff, and working in the assassinations of Lincoln and Arch Duke Ferdinand as the slow downfall of the Sons of Giants was such a great touch (though adding Bugsy Siegel as a SOG member???? lol    ). This series has so many layers that could easily branch off into separate issues or minis (make this happen IDW!). Also, making HG Wells' WOTW book a fictitious recap of a Hedorah probe attack on England was also cool (though a *major* stretch :P ).

Things I didn't like:

- Artwork by Angel Hernandez is still solid overall....however, this is the first issue where I started to miss Inaki Miranda and feel the gap between the two is slowly becoming much more noticeable than in issue #1 (though definitely no where near the drop off between Freddie Williams II and Rivas in GvsMMPR2). Jet Jaguar and MechaGodzilla in particular look "off" at times. :Mechagodzilla74: :JetJaguar:

- Still not a fan of the "Hedorah probes* being just tiny "Adult/Final stage"versions of him. Making the probes the Aquatic or Landing stages of Hedorah for this role would have been much more appropriate. It just feels like Hedorah is being shoe-horned into a "Destoroyah Aggregate stage / Soldier Legion/ Meganulon" type role, and it just doesn't work. Also strange is how the Hedorah probes at times are the same size as humans, only to suddenly and randomly appear in his normal final/adult stage size and scale when fighting Jet Jaguar. As with SOG, the handling of Hedorah's role over the course of the HTBD saga is one of the few things I haven't been too crazy about.

- Godzilla is no where to be found. Though the story is obviously engaging and building up to him, it would have been nice to see him burst on the scene by now.

I wish this series could continue as the main IDW ongoing. Once it ends, I am concerned that IDW is going to mainly focus on whatever the hell these "Kai-Sei" comics are suppose to be at the expense of good minis like this. I'd love to see another follow-up to this saga beyond HTBA...

There’s a moment where it’s shown that the Hedorah grow larger after absorbing the life energy of people. While it’s different from the origin, I think it’s a unique way to relate it to the Blob, another icon of American science fiction.

And to be blunt, no other monsters would provide or allow for the same neat visuals that this one did. Likewise, they can’t replicate the horror. Destoroyah isn’t a space monster, nor does it fit the role here of absorbing people.

Hedorah is a colony monster, the first in fact, but the original movie never explicitly showed multiple hedorah taking over the city. As a fan of Hedorah, I actually think this is the best use of the monster we’ve seen so far. It’s actually interesting and evolves it a bit.

Likewise, while Hedorah and Jet Jaguar are a bit overused, I really love the visuals on display, and it’s a unique match up. Love it so far.

I dunno it's okay so far. Something about it feels off for me. I do like the Hedorah swarm but it's not grabbing me right away like the first two minis so far. I think I'm a little saddened the Sons of Giants thread was killed off-screen too.

Don’t count the Sons of Giants out yet.

It’s definitely a change of pace though. Instead of referencing one legend, or a cultural legend an issue, it’s a rapid fire of inserting Godzilla properties into classic pulp and alien conspiracies. Makes me wonder what else it can tie itself into, and what surprise monsters might make an appearance.

Simultaneously, it needs to be a climax of sorts of everything that came before it. The first miniseries was very conservative with its monster fighting, and meanwhile this is charging out of the gate with Hedorah vs JJ.

Yeah and you gushed over Mothra #4. Heist was on it's own and grew on me while Aliens is coming off two really solid minis I liked and so far just feels weaker.

It’s fitting for SpaceGodzilla to make an appearance, and the idea of MKG coming back is exciting. However, I’m a bit worried that this is too cramped, though we’ll have to see. My impression is that this’ll all be centered around the big NYC brawl.

I do hope for some more surprises though. This comic would be perfect for Orga to be the main monster of.
