Not particularly up to date but Monsters are Attacking Tokyo has some fantastic interviews and in the time before I had the internet the movie reviews in the back of the book were my only real guide to other Japanese sci-fi movies. The Compendium has a ton of great pictures but a lot of the info isn't accurate. Still though I remember buying these in 98 and reading them over and over.

Got a bit of a sweet haul from a Japanese ally.

First, a not-uncommon one: the Godzilla Minus One pamphlet

The movie's been out long enough that there's probably little groundbreaking stuff in here, but it's a very attractive little commemorative item.

A little more off the beaten path: Hideaki Anno Exhibition file holder featuring stills from his Return of Ultraman short film

This also came with several inserts, including some chirashi posters

Last, but by far biggest and most packed full of goodness, the Hideaki Anno Exhibition book, a colossal volume comparable to the size of The Art of Shin Godzilla, albeit without some of the fancy packaging

I've barely scratched the surface of what's in here, but it's packed with concept art and various images and details about development. And if you are ever thinking of getting one, I would say it has considerably more English translations included this time around.

Not Toho related but I took off this week for my birthday and I've been enjoying my The Art of Tohl Narita book I got for Christmas. This thing is massive! In addition, I got two more Japanese artbooks for my birthday: Ultra Kaiju Artworks 1971-1980 and Shotaro Ishinomori Chronicle.

The Ultra book minimizes its scope in the title: it actually covers concept art all the way through Great and Powered in the mid-'90s! The Ishinomori book is also great; concept art for his toku heroes, photographs of the eventual live action versions, but the coolest thing to me is the reproduction of his original comic pages 'Artist Edition' style (with the various flaws and imperfections that get eliminated when black and white line art is reproduced).

I recently found out the Godzilla The Art exhibit is selling exhibition books at this latest one. The review I saw online said there isn't much info. in them from the artists themselves. As someone that isn't in Japan and missed all the Art exhibits, I'm pretty happy to finally see the art pieces themselves in this book though!
I also recently realized I am behind on the ゴジラ&東宝特撮 Official Mooks. The last ones I bought I think were from early last year. Going to be buying quite a few of those here soon too!
