Godzilla vs Space Monster (not real title) manga, coming May 27th

Really shocked this hasn't gotten a thread (or really any mention on the forum at all since even its announcement last year's Godzilla Day) but on May 27th, we will be getting the first major non-adaptation Godzilla manga since The Godzilla Comic Raids Again all the way back in 1992! Written (and presumably illustrated) by Jun Ishiguchi, this series will have Godzilla facing off against an original alien kaiju. While the premise is nothing special for the franchise, what really makes this series notable is that its creature designs are credited to two daikaiju genre veterans with extremely prolific careers: the one and only Shinji Nishikawa/MASH, who provided concept art for nearly every Toho tokusatsu project made during the Heisei era of Japan, is responsible for the manga's take on Godzilla (partially pictured in the teaser below) while Hiroshi Maruyama, responsible for the designs of quite literally everything in Heisei Ultraman, has lent his skills for the new opponent. The manga, which currently remains untitled, will be serialized on Young Champion magazine.

I made note of it when Godzilla day aired. While I’m excited, and I’m sure it’ll be perfect, I sort of wish this would’ve happened a lot sooner. IDW/DC and even Marvel, are all releasing Godzilla comics now, and this would’ve made much more of an oomph a while back.

Still, very excited. I’ve never really been interested in purchasing manga on release, but here we are. Excited to get physical manga for the first time.

Cool Gotengo redesign. I love the way the drill spirals. Strange to get excited over seeing the Gotengo again. It’s not a monster, but it’s immediately recognizable and might as well be one. Ramming speed!(if you know, you know).

I see Gigan with more mechanized wings. Only odd part is the “hat.”. I know they said new monster, but that doesn’t mean some older monsters can’t/won’t appear. Already we’ve got the gotengo.

I didn’t even consider this could be adapted into an anime series. Assuming reception is good, they’ve got science Saru!

Eleking was my first thought when I noticed the head, honestly. Remove the antlers and Eleking's head shape is a dead ringer for the one on our mystery monster.

If you look carefully at the arms, it’s easy to imagine those being the silhouette of Gigan’s hooks at an angle.
