General Gamera Thread

Well, we should all keep our expectations down at rock bottom where they belong... but maybe a movie is possible. We're in the post-Minus timeline, after all, and live action Japanese kaiju have proven capable of making bank internationally. Maybe, maybe, maybe Kadokawa will choose to gamble.

If we do get a movie, it's probably just gonna be a short film... Although, could a video game be on the table? Something like a modern version of Gamera 2000?

Anything celebrating Gamera is welcomed. I'm hoping for a new film, but I don't think it's in the cards.

I'm joking about the Monsterverse but at this point that might be more likely than a movie considering what happened with Rebirth.

Not sure if I would expect a full movie as Rebirth barely held on, though it wouldn’t surprise me if they were to add another season or special episode with the Gamera lore they already established.

A game is a possibility, and most likely a lame mobile one

I’m definitely holding out hope in the toy department. Bandai knocked the Showa stuff out of the park. I’ve gotta hope they at least get to producing a new sculpt of Showa characters such as Guiron.

I find it a bit amusing that they’re just aping the recent “Godzilla anniversary logo”. This makes me think it’s something, but it also didn’t have the budget or fanfare that led up to recent Godzilla announcements. I wouldn’t have high expectations, but why who knows.

I know Rebirth didn't get a large audience, but if we were only using Netflix shows to gauge how popular characters are I'm not sure that even Godzilla wouldn't be considered a failure based on the negative to lukewarm reception his 2 Netflix series got. Speaking of which, do we know how Gameras show stacked up against the 2 Godzilla series in terms of viewership numbers?

Cool 60th anniversary clip

They really ought to turn that one short film from the 50th anniversary into a movie. With the small budget Godzilla Minus one had, they did incredible things. The same can be done for Gamera.
