I feel like I’m falling out of love with Godzilla and Kaiju in general. I have no idea why I just haven’t been caring about it as much lately.

Hmm. Well, not hating Minya is a good start, Young Farmer. Most people here will gladly agree that he doesn't deserve most of the flak he's always gotten. Be ye warned, though: if you're going to criticize the plots of Showa movies on Toho Kingdom, be prepared to make a good case. ;)
I mean, the thing is really that Son of Godzilla and All Monsters Attack / Godzilla's Revenge just feel eccentric - possibly a tad bit too much so, even if the former I would say is just flat out better then the latter - so maybe not the best opportunity for characters / monsters involved, particularly new ones. Then the stuff after those that have him, it usually feels like Minilla's not really relevant to the story and is just...there, not contributing too much.

It comes and goes for me, but at the same time, Kaiju's one of my most consistent interests. I think for me it's because I'm just as interested in things like the history, or the merchandise, as the movies themselves - and there's kind of an endless amount of strange unknown Kaiju junk to get into, when the usual Godzillas and Gameras get boring. Stuff like X from Outer Space or Space Amoeba can be a cool change of pace

It's hard for me when the most active part of the franchise at the moment I have no interest of giving any attention outside of buying a few figures here and there.

I like Super Godzilla (the form / monster) but don't understand what the deal is with Bagan and other scrapped and uncommon monsters of that sort. Maybe Super Godzilla is a intrinsic bias since - perhaps self evidently, based off my name and avatar - I like franchises where such transformations and power ups are much more common, but when I see the various concepts for Bagan as well as the more familiar, 'finalized' one from the SNES game and Godziban I'm just like "...yeah, it feels like there's a reason this guy was cut / isn't used a lot", some of it feels like a stereotypical old DeviantArt OC and it seems like they didn't have a great idea for his lore or design judging from the variants of him we see in concept art. Ironically though I've never seen the reported Bagan fanboys who think he is some invincible lovecraft tier deity and whatnot, maybe I'm not in the right place or we're just past the time those were a thing. With regards to other scrapped kaiju and kaiju movie ideas I think there's a slight difference, one way or another they're uninteresting or wouldn't of worked, you can honestly see why this stuff gets canned lol. And even with Super Godzilla I can acknowledge why he isn't really used, pretty sure it's at least just "Why would Godzilla need to use a Super Form?"

Happens to even me periodically. But generally there’s some sort of resurgence, or refocus. Usually the renewal comes with either a new movie, or a specific appreciation with something older.

Totally agree about Bagan, I've never really liked him. Bit too edgy and 90's for my tastes, like you said above. I feel like he must've been a lot cooler around the early 2000's or so, when there was still some mystique to him - seems like a very old internet Godzilla fandom thing.

I've also always seen Destoroyah as some sort of evolution of Bagan, at least visually, so IMHO it's never felt like a particularly wasted design. The history behind him is more interesting than the actual character

Interestingly, I’d argue that Bagan’s reputation of being an unstoppable unit is partly due to TK’s very own Kaiju War Chronicles. Bagan vs Everyone was an event, and I think it cemented his place in the fanbase’s conscious as one of the strongest monsters in the imagination.

The game also does a good job of setting up and portraying Bagan as a near unstoppable monster. I would agree that the KWC did have a hand in creating the idea of Bagan as a powerhouse, but I mostly blame the game.

I remember World Monster Wrestling on the Godzilla Tower fan site talking Bagan up as a big deal, too. There was a moment in one match where he ripped Kong's heart out and crushed it. This would have been around 2003 or so, I think. No idea what kind of popularity that site had in the fandom.

My thing with "OP BAGAN!!!" is just that he wouldn't be all that special in tons of non-kaiju media and for that matter it probably wouldn't or can't even be that hard to make other kaiju beat him lol. There will always be ways to subdue or at least contain a character and there will always be someone stronger, that's actually part of why "OP for the sake of OP" stuff is pointless.

I've always found the giant arms cut of Shin Godzilla vastly superior to the pitiful tiny arms version.

I want the next Monsterverse movie to tease Bagan in the end.

Sorry for the late reply, been busy/distracted. Both SoG and Revenge are definitely eccentric. I can see why Minya's kiddy antics in SoG might not be everyone's cup of tea; I looked down on him myself for several years. He's just not what we're used to seeing in a kaiju. I've gradually warmed up to him, though, and his suit actor really did a great job loading him down with life and personality. As for Kamacuras and Kumonga, I would say their opportunities were fine. The Kamacuras did get clowned on pretty badly and didn't get a chance to be very monstrous, but they're fun in their role as disposable goons. Kumonga actually had a fantastic showing. Top-level puppetry, a strong sense of menace, and he had Godzilla on the ropes. What more can a big spider ask for?

Godzilla's Revenge is a whole can of worms we've discussed to death on this forum; you can check the last few pages of its discussion thread in the Showa section for recent opinions and debates. LSD Jellyfish did a massive write-up a few months back on some of the interesting or quality aspects of the movie. That's definitely worth a read. I personally love Minya's role in this one. It's so completely out of left field, but it fits the story it's in. I would really say Minya has a central role in the story, serving as an example for Ichiro to follow as he learns to stand up for himself.

Bagan being viewed as a fusion of Godzilla and King Ghidorah and needing Godzilla to become Super Godzilla also pushed him over the age because Godzilla has never needed a transformation before.

Destoroyah gets a little of this run as well because he fought Burning Godzilla and it's a misconception that Godzilla was using Spiral rays the entire movie.

Do you mean the Philippines poster or is there legitimately a version of the movie where his arms are bigger?
Back from the dead and... not really making the most of it, honestly.

The big arms cut is superior.

No, it’s the Philippines poster. I like the tagline “the original is still the best”. It’s obviously referencing superiority over the MV, but funnily enough it can be interpreted as a dig at Shin itself.

The big arms do look more formidable. Though, who needs big arms when you can shoot beams out of every part of your body?
