Re: Hiya Toys 1/12 Godzilla
First off, apologies for the lack of photos, but I'm sure there are video reviews online that can show you anything I discuss here.
I received my Hiya 2014 Godzilla yesterday. I own the "ultimate" NECA boxed release as well, and so that was going to be my main point of comparison.
And honestly, they look and feel pretty similar to me. The Hiya figure's articulation doesn't seem all that much more advanced, and the NECA has a matte surface to the paint work (a stark contrast to the first NECA release) that I like a bit more than the slightly more glossy Hiya look. The Hiya's tail is longer and therefore more accurate, and of course the Hiya has alternate fists. And setting aside the glossiness, the Hiya has better paint work as well.
The biggest sculptural difference to my eye is that the Hiya figure has intricate line work on the sides of the dorsal plates. These are something I associate with the later Monsterverse designs, but reviewing some images of GareGoji on Wikizilla, it looks like they are there - sort of. They don't seem as pronounced as they are on the figure, which makes me wonder if this figure is actually based on the CGI files for his Monarch: Legacy of Monsters appearance.
Of course, the price for a Hiya is only a little bit more than the NECA (especially on the secondary market if you want to make sure you get a legit one), so it's not like you're deciding between the NECA and a $100 SHMA. But if I weren't such a fan of the 2014 film and this particular design, I'd probably just hang on to the NECA and pass on the Hiya figure. The Hiya just isn't that much of an upgrade from the NECA figure (though to be clear, I'm discussing the second NECA release, which had better plastic and paint apps than the original).

It really is surprising just how similar the Hiya 2014 is to the Neca 2014.

Is it? Both used the CGI assets. Hiya has them beat in paint apps and in articulation, but I would hope so if you're coming in 10 years after the last guy.Your Boy Leroy wrote: ↑Wed Jan 01, 2025 6:09 pm It really is surprising just how similar the Hiya 2014 is to the Neca 2014.

Re: Hiya Toys 1/12 Godzilla
I think what struck me was just how little extra articulation there was on the Hiya relative to NECA. There's a bit more movement in the neck, obviously, but that about covers the biggest differences between the two.Fermix wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2025 6:52 amIs it? Both used the CGI assets. I think you folks need to blow dry your figures more because the Hiya's range eclipses the NECA easy.

Yeah, details and paint are better on the Hiya. But it’s the similarity in the overall shape that caught me off guard. Yeah, I would think that coming 10 years after the Neca figure the Hiya would be a lot “better”, but that goes to show how good the Neca was at the time (minus articulation).Fermix wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2025 6:52 amIs it? Have we received any updates regarding Hiya's shipping schedule ahead of Wonder Fest 2025 and the upcoming Chinese New Year? I'm really wondering what's up with the status of their Godzilla classic line. Was really hoping that 1991 Godzilla would begin processing by now.

As pointed out in the last two photos, it appears there was a second, standing Shimo on the left side that didn't end up getting photographed.

I think they just moved it out of the way to take closer pictures of the figures.

GMK looks so amazing, maybe even better than the SHMA. And for $50ish, this line's gonna be amazing, once all these dudes are available. Kong looks awesome too, I feel like very few MV Kong sculpts have actually got his likeness right. G2K might end up being a must-have.
Heisei looks a little too fat, but then again, I do believe it is fat boy season

Both of them have articulation cuts, so I doubt it.
