He's just trying to make everyone forget that he promised to help the economy and lower prices but has no way of actually doing that.
He had no intention of following through on his campaign promises and he'll do anyrhing to make you forgot anything about it.

If you're going to be snippy about it, we're going to rename Tim Hortons, too.

I only drink zero sugar pop these days. Coke Zero isn't great, but Pepsi Zero is comparable to standard Pepsi. You get the same taste and caffeine, but without all that sugar. I legitimately feel better since I've cut that sludge out, and I've lost a lot of weight.

Have you tried Coke Zero Sugar Zero Caffeine? That one's good, too.JAGzilla wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2025 5:37 am I only drink zero sugar pop these days. The strange thing is there's no Pepsi Zero Sugar Zero Caffeine in stores. You'd think that Pepsi would've brought it out by now just to keep up with Coke.

Nah, the caffeine is half the point for me. I don't drink much coffee or tea, I just get my caffeine from pop.

Re: What ruined your day?
There's a lot going on with me that doesn't qualify for this thread but is often tempting to go into, but yesterday (Saturday) was ruined by issues at my workplace. Our boss who always had my back left a couple months back and we now know why -- upper management bungled something that was costly that nobody was asking for and has decided to trickle this down on everyone. They are pretty much claiming we are "taking too much in payroll" (i.e. overpaid) and are considering docking us from full-time to part-time and having us work in shifts completely alone rather than supporting each other as a team, and treating what we collectively consider too high a daily volume of customers for two staff as below what they view as the maximum for one to handle alone. There are some other wrinkles involved. Also, I work exclusively in nonprofits right now, so there isn't ostensibly a financial motive, but it still feels very "capitalistic" in that the workers are suffering because an executive-level decision created some mismanagement. My boss and a retiring employee from another location told me they feel this isn't the company they signed up to work for and I can see exactly why.
I used to be a lot more optimistic and outgoing, believe it or not. I used to actually be passionate about this stuff.

I don't want to be "that guy" but I think that ruining your day might be a bit of an overreaction.LegendZilla wrote: ↑Fri Jan 10, 2025 6:21 pm Mom and dad borught me back a pack of Coke Zero instead of regular Coke.

Re: What ruined your day?
So, I bought Metallica's Black Album remastered on vinyl last November. I didn't finally use it until today because I didn't have a vinyl record player until my dad gave me his just recently. Now, this album has two records on it, one for the first six songs and the other for the final six. I played one to test out the record player. It works….but then I noticed something. Something seriously wrong. Both of the vinyl records are the same. They are both disc one, which have sides one and two for the first six songs on the album. Somebody in the company that makes these vinyl releases has fucked up. I looked up the Amazon reviews and saw that several other people had the same problem. Those people and myself purchased this vinyl album release that has two of the same records when it should've been two records with sides 1-4, respectively. So, I can listen to the first half of the Black Album on vinyl, but not the second half due to the absence of the second record with sides three and four. I can't return it because I threw away the package with the shipping information back in December. So, I'm stuck with it. $24 down the drain.

Speaking of money down the drain, I just dropped my phone and cracked the screen pretty badly. I'd kept it in perfect shape for four years.
Eh, it had other problems and was due to be replaced, anyway. Still sucks, though.

Re: What ruined your day?
Know how you feel. I cracked my phone up pretty bad several months back. It's my 4th replacement phone after the previous ones all burned out for some reason. This one has actually lasted but now the screen is screwed up pretty bad. Can't turn it in because it's my sister's plan and she refuses to let me send it back because they docked her like 300 bucks the last time and it had only a minor fracture. Now I can't get an upgrade till this fall so I gotta tough it until then. Never getting a Google phone again. They've been nothing but a complete hassle.

Re: What ruined your day?
It did not exactly ruin my day, but it was news that saddened me, so this feels the best spot for it.
My long-time favorite band The Pillows disbanded after 35 years. In band years, that's like 119, so it hardly comes as a shock, but somehow it seemed like they'd never call it quits. I've seen this band live a couple times, made best friends over mutual love for the band, and my first obsessive online community was one formed around this band, so there's a distinct feeling of loss. I logged into the old forum where we used to discuss them and found the internet equivalent of a civilization's ruins: broken image links; the link in my old profile to a forum for another much smaller band broken and now redirected to a hentai site; posts grinding to a halt two or more years ago. No longer a pretty sight or site. But I had to go back to post something.
I know I tend to be an argumentative sort here. It's a bit of a persona I play up because I know, from many years on forums, that this is part of what makes them interesting and fun. You play your part, and the story of the site rolls on. I'm not playing that persona now. What I want to say is that Toho Kingdom, for all its faults, is a rare and beautiful thing. The trend over the past decade has been the gradual (and then sudden) erosion of online communities in favor of diffuse social media networks. I don't know about you, but I do not like it. These sites have something to offer, and news travels faster, but I find myself missing a community of people. That guy who always has something smart to say about the latest thing related to our obsession. The idiot you can count on to make everyone roll their eyes. The guy who cracks a joke, and everyone starts in on the banter. These things are precious to me. I love having all of them there, a village of all sorts built around something we all love. If you've ever argued with me here and wondered, is this guy just a big asshole, what's his deal, what's going on? This is as close as you'll get to me bearing my soul, so look alive, soldier.
I feel like my home country has been conquered by some invisible foreign army called time. It feels like there's nowhere to go home. And yet, it's just a rock band and just some internet forums at the end of the day. How silly. So why do I tear up? What a life.
Here's a song by The Pillows that sticks with me.
And one more they probably had to play at every show since its release, since fans loved it so much, and they must have tired of playing, but the fans never tired of hearing it.

^ 100% agreement about the community aspect of traditional message boards. May the Kingdom of Toho stand for ten thousand years.
Sorry to hear your favorite band finally threw in the towel. It's easy to say things like that don't matter, but we all know they do. The sense of loss when they go away is real.

But how would you feel if a rock band came along that sounded like the Pillows…called the Blankets? Would they have to be Japanese?Jomei wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 12:30 am It did not exactly ruin my day, but it was news that saddened me, so this feels the best spot for it.

In all seriousness, that sucks. Reminds me of when Guided By Voices broke up a long time ago. Good reminder/PSA to find a new band to get into.
If it’s any consolation, hope that they still keep making music, as individuals. The best thing that could happen is the individual members make music. And thankfully (as I’m sure you are aware), Japan still has a very active live music scene, including of older bands. For instance, Moon Riders concerts still perform concerts semi regularly.

I need to take pictures of the price tags of food imported from Mexico right now. When the prices are higher in a few months, I'll have proof that goddamn Sleepy Joe and the swamp full of corrupt Democrats ruined the economy with their braindead tariff war. We're so lucky to have Trump fighting for us.
