Megalon's horn beam also resembles electric bolts. I know it was because his rampage was stock footage of Ghidorah's attack, but it still predates G vs MG. It's an interesting theory.

Honestly the electrical weapons from Mothra vs Godzilla would have been useful against other Kaiju in general. If those lightning towers had Godzilla writhing on the ground in pain, imagine what they'd do to someone like Hedorah.

I assume Hedorah's corrosive body would melt the conducting nets.

Agreed, however there have been multiple weapons or strategies whi h have been effective against Godzilla which shouldnhave returned but never did. The ine I'm thinking of ATM is the bird call mimicking from Return of Godzilla.

Yeah seeing stuff like that not being attempted again bugged kid me but maybe it helps make the movies easier to go into.

It would have been neat if they tried the electric net thing on Ghidorah in one movie....but damn don't think the SFXs were for it what with needing a billion wires just to move Ghidorah.

With suitmation Ghidorah, it would have had problems, but CGI could easily create such a scene.

MC_Lovecraft wrote: Tue Sep 17, 2024 1:33 pm I'm not a big fan of the way that Kong knucklewalks in the Wingard movies. I think his upright movement in Skull Island helps differentiates him from being "just" a giant ape, and makes for a nice call back to '33. A little's not bad, but I think it wound up a bit too overdone. Ditto the other Great Apes.
And here I thought I was the only one who hated it. Kong is already shorter than Godzilla, so adopting the knucklewalk pose doesn't make him look more imposing or intimidating, and he's already fast enough on two feet plus the maneuverability of being able to climb and swing around buildings.

Next you'll tell me you don't like Godzilla croc mode too. (I hate it, it feels like a violation of his bottom-heavy bipedal design, and the fact that he leaps onto Kong at the end is the ugly rotten cherry on top).
In a post-Shin Godzilla world, the kaiju genre should, more than ever before, be held to standards of quality that are more than just "big monster go rawr". Don't act surprised when you get trash movies when your core audience asks for nothing but the bare minimum.

Yeah, Godzilla crawling annoyed me, too. I've made peace with it in GxK, but those scenes are never going to be my favorites. I wasn't a big fan of GxK Godzilla tackling Scylla and blasting her in the face, either.

I did actually kind of like the shot of Godzilla Evolved climbing the Rock of Gibraltar, though. Whether it was a very Godzilla-like thing to do or not, it looked cool.

It looked fine in GvK but GxK's poor Godzilla animation quality really didn't do him any favors
"[GxK] feels like a proof of concept for Legendary to make a film entirely by AI. Monster fights are the one thing it offers and it fucks them mostly too, every other aspect of the film is dogshit and it seems to genuinely mock its audience for watching it."

I like the visual of Godzilla on all fours thrashing Kong, I felt it heavily communicated the ferocity of LegendaryGoji and seemed in character with his more animalistic fighting style. But him just moving around on all fours earlier looked too strange. I think it would have been better if he tackled Kong to the ground and then proceeded to attack on all fours

You guessed it. I think it's telling that we never see a very clear shot of Godzilla crawling in GvK, because it simply doesn't work with how his body is put together. It's an interesting idea, but I feel like it should have stayed just an idea.

I feel like Godzilla going croc mode is a betrayal of his majesty - Godzilla's above such animalistic tendencies, especially one who has spent millions of years as a regal figure for other monsters and humans alike.

Godzilla gas always been regal and violent. Remember how Showa Godzilla did foes like Kamacurus, Ebirah and Ghidorah.

This Godzilla is also not above intimidation displays. The croc walk seems in line with that, barreling towards a rival in an aggressive and threatening manner.

I mean...it doesn't really look all that intimidating when you remove the dust, bloom, and particle effects...

My interpretation was that Godzilla completely broke down and lost all self-control because he hated Kongs that much. Whatever happened between him/his species and the apes in the past was just that traumatic. All of his usual dignity goes out the window and he goes into rabid lizard kill the fucking monkey mode. It was jarring to see but could have worked; at the time I thought there were concepts of a plan for something like this in GvK, but Wingard and the writers really just did a terrible job of conveying Godzilla's reasoning for acting that way.

Having seen GxK, I don't really know. It's hard to say whether Wingard was going for a traumatized Godzilla, or if intense and animalistic are just Wingard Godzilla's standard personality. I got the impression that Wingard was never concerned with overall MV continuity and was pretty much just making his own movies his own way.

This isn't exactly an "opinion" but it kind of blows my mind that King Ghidorah and Mechagodzilla have connections across multiple stories but have never been in the same film at the same time and probably never will be. Their purposes are both essentially to serve as Godzilla's most powerful antagonist so any co-existence would be threatening to their very core concepts.

This is an aspect of the films I used to think about a lot. I have to confess I found LegendaryGoji a little less interesting once it sank in his basic life cycle is pretty much killing anything he doesn't like and then sleeping indefinitely, and I think you could argue all pre-GxK Titans fit that description as well considering Scyclla and Tiamet returned for fight to the death purposes only.

Probably due to an active imagination and childish misreading, the Monster Island concept in the Showa era and some of the islands in the later Heisei era just gave this sense the kaiju had a bit more inner life than what we see during fight scenes, and I sometimes long for that childish understanding rather than the reality the primary purpose of kaiju is to destroy.
I used to be a lot more optimistic and outgoing, believe it or not. I used to actually be passionate about this stuff.

I was having this EXACT thought not even an hour ago, lmao! Perhaps they fought in one of the IDW comics? I'm very out of the loop with Godzilla comics these days.

That's why G'14 remains my favorite characterization for MV Godzilla. The implication that he'd always been down there, and modern man had never known it, because all our history is just a blip in the life of a creature who measures time not in years or centuries or even millennia but eons, really captures my imagination, anyway.

For now, Mothra is the only titan Godzilla will consider a friend. Godzilla will work with Kong, but only if he absolutely has to, which says that the current version of Godzilla will only work with the other titans if a sufficient threat were to rise.
