Re: 24-Hour Godzilla Channel Coming to Pluto TV With Exclusive Films
Looks like we've got a lot less on the channel these days. The selection seems to have whittled down to just the movies Janus owns the rights to, as well as the Mothra trilogy. All the Godzilla movies Sony had seem to be gone. They aren't available on demand anymore and I haven't seen them air in a couple weeks.

Janus is starting their streams of the first 3 Heisei films soon so those might start appearing at least. That's 2 movies that event there before...doesn't really make up for losing like 10 others though.

They're playing the Showa Gamera films again? Are they those awful "Jupiter TV" versions from earlier this year?

Showing the Gamera trilogy is crazy if you think about it. "Look what 90's Godzilla couldve looked like!"

No kidding. After loving Godzilla 1985 as a kid and then being blown away by Biollante in the early 90’s after stumbling across the VHS at the mall, my first real exposure to the 90’s films (vs KG and vs Destroyer via VDK bootlegs) left me wondering what the heck happened? I’ve since come to enjoy and appreciate the Heisei series but man, what a break-neck u-turn in tone/mood and visual style!miguelnuva wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2024 9:03 pm80's Godzilla already did that.Chaos Reincarnation wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2024 3:49 pm Showing the Gamera trilogy is crazy if you think about it. The 80s Godzilla films are good, but they're not game changers the way the Gameta trilogy is. That's what Chaos was getting at. The 90s Godzilla films SHOULD have been much better and the Kaneko Gamera films really showed Toho up at their own game.

^ exactly. If the 90s Godzilla films had continued that same spirit they'd look way different. Hell even compare them to the Mothra movies that were trying to compete with Gamera at the time. Their embarrassing themselves running those movies alongside the trilogy.

Yeah the Gamera movies were better films than the Mothra movies but at the end of the day the Mothra Trilogy grossed more and Mothra is still thriving while Gamera is on life support.
It's kinda a moot argument other than yeah the Gamera films are better.

Always neat to see the 80s Godzilla films getting praise these days. For a long time when RoG was out of print here, it seemed like a pretty unpopular film on the whole and acknowledged strictly through the Godzilla 1985[/b] cut -- with GvB being the one time the Heisei series got much praise.
I used to be a lot more optimistic and outgoing, believe it or not. I used to actually be passionate about this stuff.

Dont know if anyone cares but Godzilla 1998 is back on the channel after obly airing once or twice a year ago.
Honestly, this is the most this channel has had in its line up in a long time. They're just missing GvsKG and GvsM of course.
