Re: Say Something Positive About the Millennium Series
The Millennium films were absolutely and unequivocally ahead of their time in allowing every director the freedom to craft their own stories without threat of continuity or attachment to one another, aside the silly rule they had to remain connected to the 1954 film. I really failed to recognize it as a kid who was very attached to that kind of storytelling. It's wonderful that Toho has offered the directors of Shin Godzilla and Godzilla Minus One even more creative freedom for their stories and virtually no creative restraint, a clear progression on the best principles of the Millennium era while abandoning its worst pitfalls. Although some of the Millennium films are more mediocre than great, they paved the way for greater films to a massive degree by unshackling the franchise from continuity.
I used to be a lot more optimistic and outgoing, believe it or not. I used to actually be passionate about this stuff.

Tokyo SOS is the best looking tokusatsu Godzilla movie and one of the best final battles in the series. IMO

Actually, the only Millennium era Godzilla film that was not connected to the original 1954 film in any way, shape or form was Godzilla Final Wars. The previous five films, however, were connected to it.JVM wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2024 9:13 pm The Millennium films were absolutely and unequivocally ahead of their time in allowing every director the freedom to craft their own stories without threat of continuity or attachment to one another, aside the silly rule they had to remain connected to the 1954 film. 1000%, it looks magnificient. Although, some of the 60s films are up there aesthetically for me.Chaos Reincarnation wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 4:36 pm Tokyo SOS is the best looking tokusatsu Godzilla movie and one of the best final battles in the series. IMO

I've heard people say the same about G2K on occasion.mikelcho wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2024 12:32 pmActually, the only Millennium era Godzilla film that was not connected to the original 1954 film in any way, shape or form was Godzilla Final Wars. Yeah, I don't think there's anything said in G2K to indicate a connection with G54. We know Godzilla has appeared in the past and no one is surprised to see him again, but that's it.

Actually, according to Wikizilla, the book Godzilla 2000: Millennimu Super Complete Works and www.godzilla.jp (the latter of which, I've also just found out from Wikizilla, has been absorbed into the Godzilla Store) have both said that the Godzilla from Godzilla 2000: Millennium is the second Godzilla in this continuity. Do with this information what you will.

I tend to treat books like that as non-canon, since half the claims they make are random nonsense decades after the fact. What happens on-screen is what matters.

Books are soft Canon if anything. Sure you can go with it as long as it doesn't contradict the movies but overall it doesn't really add anything to the film in the case of G2k.

Re: Say Something Positive About the Millennium Series
Whether it's connected or not, it has little impact on the story. Most of the Milennium films are individual stories, and that approach allows for some creative ideas and differing tones.
