These figures look interesting, but yeah, the price and figure breakdowns are bizarre. For $82, I'd get all three parts of Kumonga, but I'd end up with an incomplete Godzilla 55 and a Godzilla 62 tail. What a devious gimmick.eleking007 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 7:58 amDepending on how much you want to spend:Tyrannicus wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 7:32 pm So assuming Mezco isn't making any more 5 Point XL Godzilla figures, can anyone recommend some good showa kaiju toys that would fit in well scale and style-wise? Especially Kumonga, Manda and Varan to complete the Destroy All Monsters set
Toho Machine Chronicles Moonlight SY-3 (old gashapon, secondary market)
DeAgostini Toho Collection Kumonga (1967 version, 3 sets, 2699 a set)
DeAgostini Toho Collection Manda (1963 version, 2 sets, 2699 each, out of print already)
If you look up the DeAgostini sets on Amazon Japan, there are a couple of pics with comparisons to the Mezco 68 Godzilla.

The SY-3 & Kumonga fits perfectly, Manda, to make a proper 68, I used 2 body sets for the proper length. Both are new and you can get them for retail still. For Varan I'm checking into some of the CAST/Iwakura figures. Haven't found anything reasonably priced yet.

It's a shame the 5 points line looks like it's ended. I never bought any, so I guess I'm partially to blame, but a full showa roster that size would have been perfect, could fit on one shelf, would look good together, isn't overly stylized. In a bittersweet way I guess I'm glad I didn't get into this line thinking that would be a possibility, but the fact there's no godzilla vs Megalon box set is a crying shame.

The destroy all monsters packs are glorious, definitely a holy grail level item. Every figure is perfect, especially the wicked Ghidorah. I honestly only bought those, though, the other sets felt a bit less worth the price tag. Still a bit interested in their rubber '54, but I've read mixed things about their costumed toys. I wish they made individual characters available outside of the packs themselves, I might grab a little MechaGodzilla or Smogmonster

Yes, despite knowing what I know, I still can't quite comprehend the fact the line could cease. It's hard to imagine something that accomplished so much at the scale it did could pass into the night so easily.Mechagigan wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2024 6:22 pm The destroy all monsters packs are glorious, definitely a holy grail level item. Yeah despite some off-looking sculpts every once in awhile and the odd choice to use the '64 Rodan design instead of '68 in the DAM set, I really enjoyed this line and thought they put quite a bit of quality into these sets. I genuinely can't imagine why these wouldn't sell unless price point was the issue.

Can't get links or pictures to post here, but I uploaded pics of the Mezco DAM figures with the TC Kumonga & Manda onto Flickr. Also added pic of TC Manda using 2 body sections. Search for CM King, or user ID eleking007 on flickr if interested.

Absolutely guarantee 1964 Rodan ended up in the Mezco set because they were clearly using X-Plus figures as the reference for the toys.Kagutaba wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2024 12:36 pm Yeah despite some off-looking sculpts every one in awhile and the odd choice to use the '64 Rodan design instead of '68 in it DAM set, I really enjoyed this line and thought they put quite a bit of quality into these sets. I looked at your pictures and you're right, they both fit in pretty well! I imagine it wouldn't be too hard to modify Manda to look more like the DAM version too.eleking007 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2024 1:29 pm Can't get links or pictures to post here, but I uploaded pics of the Mezco DAM figures with the TC Kumonga & Manda onto Flickr. Another thing worth tracking down would be the Iwakura Kilaak UFO. I'm not sure how well it scales to the size it should be, but it looks great alongside them. It also has a shell you can put around it to make it the "Fire Dragon". Are there any good dioramas or displays of Mt. Fuji to display them on?
By the way, at what point are we able to post photos or links? Is it after a certain number of posts?

Re: Mezco Godzilla Toys
I caved in and bought the DeAgostini figures.
For photos, google “crockalley” and “Flickr” and you’ll find my page. I have lots of photos of the unboxing and comparisons with 5P and other Godzillas.
Both figures are gorgeous. I think Kumonga is maybe 10% too big for 5-Points, but it’s hard to tell relative sizes in the movies. Manda is a great companion piece to Revoltech’s Gotengo. (I’ve got a photo of that, too.) But it is an Aragon Manda, not a DAM Manda. Maybe one day I’ll get a second one and customize it.
While both figs are very nice, they’re not 100% perfect for 5-Points, although probably as close as we’ll get for the time being.
Edit: I tried posting to Imgur, but it seems it's not working. I uploaded to my Flickr.

You're gonna neuter an Atragon Manda? Ouch.crockalley wrote: ↑Fri Sep 06, 2024 8:27 pm But it is an Aragon Manda, not a DAM Manda. Maybe one day I’ll get a second one and customize it.

Try searching for "crockalley" and "flickr". In you don't see them in my photostream, look at my albums. Sorry, my Imgur post says it's public, but it's not showing up. I don't know why. Yes, haha, I do want to chop up an Atragon Manda and transform him into the unflattering DAM version. But I'll keep one copy of Atragon Manda intact, because he's clearly the superior design. I won't ruin my single copy until I have another one.

Great pics! The Manda is nice. I may get one, but he's still a tad on the small side.
