Skull Island was a dangerous place, suffice it to say. Predators filled the lands with their dangerous need for flesh and blood. It was a wonder how people, a movie crew no less, managed to survive here for any stretch of time. In the present, a white and gray furred ape could tell what was to come just from a quick glance at the clouds. A storm was coming, a strong one too from just how dark it was becoming.
If that wasn't enough, the thunder that rose in volume and beginning flashes of lightning would. They had been suffering a drought before it, so it wasn't without its benefits. Water was draining from the rivers of the land and lakes were filled with their own set of dangers. The land would begin to be replenished and that was obviously a good thing. Of course, that didn't erase the need for shelter.
As such, he searched for a place to keep out of the rain. If he could find the perfect location, he would get the water he needed and keep mostly dry. With that in mind, he set out confident he could find what he needed. Most of the land was already filled with enemies making themselves at home somewhere, so it wouldn't be easy. He searched high and low, across the landscape for what could have been hours.
As he climbed down a rather steep hill, he spotted something that could help. A cave, a rather big one at that. Unwilling to leave a gift horse in the mouth, he ran into the cave without a moment to spare. Grass and trees eventually gave way to smooth rock surfaces as he ran into the caverns. Now that he was sure he had accomplished his goal, he looked at his new hideout.
It was certainly a dark place, even the brightest flashes from the lightning barely lighting the area up. It seemed like there were multiple paths he could go through as well around here. While it wasn't perfect, he decided to work with what he was given. Carefully walking through the caves, he decided to straight. The ape used the walls to guide him through as he began his walk.
As he continued, he noticed how jagged the roof of the cave could be as the path got narrower. Having to duck the rest of the way, kept his hand on the roof to measure his height to it. Eventually, his hand came across something sticky and thin. Disgusted, Kong shook it until it was completely off. As the cave got bigger, he noticed a small light flickering at the next turn of the cave.
Finally, he had a way to see something in here. It could be his father or one of the other Kongs on the island taking refuge here, they could share if they were kind enough. He picked up the pace in an excitement he couldn’t help, but what he saw was less than what was expected to say the least. That would be for one main reason, one very alarming reason… it was a burning corpse. He stumbled off his feet and away from the scene of death, wanting to keep his distance.
When he had a good look at what was burning, he saw that it was one of the biggest dinosaurs in the land. What on earth happened to this creature? He had seen many things on this small part of the globe for his age, but not many were like this. It couldn't be the lightning, he was a good few feet away from the exit. Besides, it hadn't gotten violent enough even if he was outside.
A wary curiosity stirred in his mind as pushed on. As he got farther, more fires appeared with the victims on full display. That wouldn’t be the only thing he would see either. Large piles of white strings cocooned more. As he observed the strings, he could tell what some of them were.
One of them was the giant anacondas, the yellow skin popping out of the whiteness. Another was one of the giant bears, its face stuck in a perpetual state of horror. Just looking it in the eyes disturbed him, his mind imagining what he had seen. Some living devil he had never heard of wandering the land looking to add more souls into their collection. Suddenly, a loud noise snapped him out of his focus.
He jumped, his nerves abuzz as each individual of his fur stood on end as the loud yet muffled noises rang out. From what he saw, he saw it was one of these creatures trying to scream. Tentatively walking toward it, he saw the serpentine body of the creature. It had a long face, a tail that could barely budge yet begging to flail, and limbs that were just as restricted. He was shocked that anything here was actually left alive after the things he'd seen.
He reached for a stalactite and pulled it out before carefully heading toward it. It clearly needed his help and he had the power to do so. With a strong amount of force, he plunged his weapon and thrusted it into the webs. Starting from the one side, he sliced through it carefully to not slash the throat. When he reached the other side, the Skullcrawlers' little orange eyes shot open.
It began hyperventilating, desperately trying to breathe in what felt like forever. Kong backed away, letting her calm down before he finished his work. He was so focused on this creature, he was caught by surprise when he heard ripping noises. He turned around, noticing the sounds were coming from the bear. Something was coming out of him, ripping the giant mammal apart from the inside.
When it made its way through, it was revealed to be vicious little spiders. It then clicked on what had caused such a haunting scene such as this. Whoever had given birth to these spiders was using this as a lair long before he found it. Now the little army of spiders was heading for him. He grit his teeth and tensed his muscles, determined not to become another victim like everything else around him.
First things first, he needed to get this creature out of here. With a strong slash downwards, he slashed deep into the webs surrounding the Skullcrawler. The creature, now that she could move again, finished the job and pushed her way out of the webbing as she ran for her life. The spiders tried to stop them, more of the sticky substance shooting out of their spinnerets. The globs stuck onto them, but they kept on running as fast as they could.
The new head Ramarak swung her tongue like a whip, smashing many of the hungry arachnids to bits under the muscular organ. They chased after her, shrill little cries coming out of their mouths. The Skullcrawler pushed through the horde, the spiders jumping at and charging at her with Kong close behind. The cretins jumped onto his back, Kong having to violently shake them off of him, sending them flying everywhere. Just looking around the cave, the arachnids crawling all over the cave told him just how urgent it was they make a break out of this place.
He heard his fellow escapee crash into the narrow walls of the cave, trying to brute force her way out. Picking up the pace, he ran out and pushed her through angling her head down all the while. The Skullcrawler could feel some of them jump into her back, jumping into the ceiling to crush them. Kong flinched as he looked up at the ceiling, the other rocks hanging above them shaking around. Kong tried to stop her, but before he could the spiders jumped onto him as well.
Before he could swipe them off, he could feel his skin getting jabbed into. He held his breath, enduring whatever it was their proboscis was injecting him with as he swatted them off of him. As the cave got wider, he saw the entrance be swarmed with more of the miniature demons surrounding them. Skullcrawler stopped dead in her tracks, memories flashing in her mind. Something sneaking up on her, getting wrapped up in their death trap, and being dragged into their cave before being kept in storage like all the others.
The spiders began crawling over her hands right now, Ramarak wiping them off and squishing them. The car sized arachnids hissed as they spat web at them, Kong and Skullcrawler trying to protect their faces at least. Kong rushed through and smacked them away, reducing them to bits sprinkling his hands. If he could crush enough of them, they should be able to create an opening for themselves. While Skullcrawler rampaged against the spiders, Kong focused on the cretins blocking the exit.
They tried to sink their mouths into his feet, but he stomped on them before they had the chance. He already felt what they produced inside him, he didn't know what it meant but whatever it was needed to be contained. Some leapt to his face, but Ramarak pushed him aside as the spiders sailed over him. They nearly stabbed into her tongue as she reeled it in like a frog. As more dropped on her, she chomped down onto them and swallowed them.
Following old instincts, she scooped as many of them into her stomach and began eating them in droves. Kong began noticing that the swarm was beginning to retreat, watching those trying to eat become the eaten. That was when something struck him; this could be the answer to their problem! Kong roared for her attention, pointing at those blocking the entrance. The Skullcrawler lashed out at them with her tongue, scooping them up in her tongue and reeling them into her mouth like a frog.
It was working, the predators wary of becoming prey. Their mother would not be happy with this, they needed to find a way to keep them in here. As that tongue of hers kept reeling in their kin to their doom, an idea hatched. Building up some kind of element in their bodies, they expelled plumes of flames on them. Skullcrawler felt pain shoot up her body as fire swallowed her tongue, the monster screeching as the fire crawled across it.
She began thrashing about, her tongue swinging and crashing all over the walls and ceiling. Kong saw her lose her mind, trying to get closer to help but couldn't because of how wild she was being. The only thing he could do was grab her tongue by pure luck, the fire closing in on the skin and white fur on his body. Then rocks began falling from the ceiling, Kong snapping to the shaking cave. The spiders could see their trap backfiring, the cave becoming unstable from all the violence she was unleashing on it.
As the spiders saw them run away, he took her and ran out of the cave into the salvation. The stalactites on the ceiling began to fall, crushing those unfortunate enough to be caught in their descent. Those that were on the other hand began to retreat, allowing them to make their way out. The little ape took huge handfuls of dirt and began patting the both of them out. The ape took the time to sit down and take a break, relieved to be out of that mess.
Before he could really relish the freedom and slow healing, his body began swelling and popping like balloons. Kong screamed in horrible pain as his body dropped to the ground, trees snapping from his girth. He reached for the spots that had imploded, the poison having left combusted lesions. Suffice it to say, his body would take days to heal properly. Taking a deep breath, he breathed through his teeth from the new injuries.
They just needed to steer clear from the queen and they should be home free. Just when he let himself become calm, he smelled something burning. Instincts kicking back in, he got back up and searched for the cause. It wasn't hard to find however… the jungle was on fire! Little Kong backed away from the raging flames and covered his mouth from the smoke, trying to understand what was happening now.
From the inferno, a very familiar arachnid began to rise walking past the disaster she caused. One look at her would tell you that this was the queen he needed to be wary of; the eyes and skin were the same respective red and gray. She looked down at them, furious at what they had done. She looked toward the Skullcrawler, regretting that she didn't kill her when she had the chance. If those V-Rexes didn't try to break in, that thief would be dead by now.
She looked toward her destroyed home, taking in all the trouble they put her through. First she would finish the job with her and kill the little primate alongside her. Then she would find another cave and start all over. The little Kong looked toward the Skullcrawler, the skull devil antsy as she looked right into the eyes of a killer. While Little Kong charged towards her, the Skullcrawler dashed off to the right, trying to make a break for it.
The Queen Quake Spider would have none of it and jumped towards her, Kong watching her fly over him as a result. Her prey didn't get far as she landed right on top of her. Grabbing a rock, he aimed it as precisely as he could given how slippery it became and threw it at her. She nearly stabbed into her when the rock smacked right into her spinneret, distracting her as she looked toward him. Beating his chest with a hearty roar, he challenged her.
Letting out a shriek in response, she began webbing up the Skullcrawler to make sure she wouldn't get away. She listened to his footsteps as he once again dashed towards her. When she felt it was secure, she turned back toward the ape and made her own charge. The two met in a heavy clash, wrestling each other for dominance. She tried to stab him, but he grabbed her mandibles and forced her to the ground with a takedown.
Making a grab for the deadly appendage, he grasped in his hand and began to squeeze as hard as he could. She cried out, smacking him with her multiple legs in her attempt to get him off. He would not be deterred so easily, intent on crushing it before its lethal effects took hold. She could see brute force wasn't going to get her what she wanted, so instead she spat fire directly at him. Turning around was the only thing that saved him as it rushed into his face, burning his fur as well as his skin.
The queen relished in the cries of the interloper as prepared to burn him alive. Before it had the chance to get worse, he tossed her onto her back causing her much anger. Grabbing a fistful of dirt, he began patting it out keeping an eye on her in case she tried more tricks. Aiming at him, she shot out her web snare to which he ducked under. He didn't have much time to dodge the other however as she shot another at his foot and pulled him down tripping him.
Pushing herself upright, she jumped up and squashed him underneath her with a body slam. Kong grunted from how much heavier she was than him, trying to push her away. With a screech, she was about to aim for his throat when he bit her in the face. The Queen Quake Spider grunted as he pushed her upwards, her biological weapon left stabbing open air. Turning them around with a kick to the gut, he began unleashing fists into her face.
Kong planned to grab her as well, but her long legs pushed him back by the shoulders leaving him stumbling back to his feet. While Kong tried to keep his balance, she rolled back up and charged right into him. He tried to stop her, but she was too fast and she rammed right into his chest. What the young Kong could do was bite her first left leg, drawing her blood. While it was disgusting, he could quite literally live with it
Before the Queen Quake Spider could make a move, he threw her to the side. She kept a close eye on him as she walked to the side of the ape aggressively, looking to make another grab for her. Before he could get her hands on her however, she made a small jump into the air and shot her webs right into his hands. Kong's eyes shot open in alarm, instantly trying to get the webs off. She wouldn't give him the chance as she made to jab into his chest.
He managed to dodge just in the right time, the proboscis only managing to nick him across his side. He could feel the sting of the poison, but it wasn't burning the way it was before. It seemed the poison needed to be injected entirely for its worse effects. With how things were going however, fighting her was very risky to do on his own. He stole a glance at the Skullcrawler, desperately fighting to get out of a very familiar situation.
Although she tried to desert him, the fact of the matter was that he needed her if he was going to survive. As a result, he began to formulate a plan of getting her out of her new trap. As the queen began attacking with her multiple legs, his current situation made itself known. He needed to break himself out first before he could get to her. As he tried his block to block her multi angled kicks, the issue was how to do it.
He tried to swing both hands down on her, but she backed away before lunging back at him. He slammed his head into her underbelly, catching midair and sending her back. With an angry screech, she belched another cloud of flames at him. As he hit the dirt to avoid burning, he tried to muscle his way out. When he noticed the strands pulling apart, it gave him a slight pause.
Maybe there was another way around this than the straightforward one. As she charged after him, he thrust his webbed hands right into her mouth. The Queen stopped, stunned as her mouth was stuck with her own creation. As she made to shove him off, he threw himself back at the same time. As expected, he ripped right off the webs with their combined force.
She hastily aimed to ram him midair, but Kong had the reflexes to push her to the side. Seeing his opportunity, he ran off to Skullcrawler as fast as he could. She could hear footsteps, looking toward her. Those definitely didn’t belong to the spider, they were too spaced out. Her orange eyes looked into the black ones of Kong as he reached and grabbed her by the head.
As they pushed their way out of the web trap, he began speaking to her in a way she could understand. He told her as long as the Spider queen still lived, she wasn't going to let them go. There was only one way to be rid of her and it was to fight her head on. He could tell she didn't want to do this, that she had all she could take at this point. Even with the simple minded thought process of a Skullcrawler, she knew he was speaking the truth.
They both heard her rage filled screech, turning around to see the web ripped off her mouth. With a heavy sigh, she braced for the worst. Kong placed a comforting hand on her shoulder for only a second before starting the queen down. This was it, they either got rid of the tyrant once and for all or died trying. The Queen jumped as high as her body while the pair let out their roars as they charged her. Thunder served as a natural bell for the final round.
As the first drops of rain began to fall, the new Ramarak jumped at her. The Queen remembered her tactics, slamming her legs into her mitts and pushing her back. Her tail swung up in response, tying around her abdomen and squeezing from there. She thrusted with her proboscis over and over, the creature able to maneuver her body around to evade. Fed up with her, she went with brute force and simply smashed her into the ground.
She went to stab her again, only to find the dirt below as Kong pushed her head down to keep her lethal weapon in place. Her fury began to reach a fever pitch as she stared down at these two who had disrupted her life to such a degree. She didn't get chased away by humans and forced to cross the ocean to get to this place just so she could deal with such nonsense! She would make sure they suffered before they died! Lifting the Skullcrawler with her, she pushed herself out of his grip.
As she pushed the Skullcrawler off, she shot a web snare at Kong's chest and tugged hard. The son of Kong screamed in pain as a large amount of fur was torn off his skin, leaving it a bright red. As he clutched his chest, she threw herself at him in a fierce tackle sending him tumbling. She made to pin him down, but a frog-like tongue reeled her away from him before she could do anything else. She felt the new skull devil grapple her from behind, wrapping her tail around her back legs and trying to crush them.
She thrashed against her, screeching as she tried to force her off. She was a tenacious one when she wanted to be, however, and was unwilling to let her go. Having her legs be wrapped around stopped her from being able to move, but she knew what else she could do. Sending out a distress signal, the young spiders that tried to run heeded her. She just needed to hold out until they got here and she would if she could help it.
The Skullcrawler in the meantime went to grab her by the front legs to further immobilize her. The moment she reached out however, she stabbed her in the right arm just before she could reach. Her eyes went blinding white for a moment from getting caught, the pain only a prelude for what was to come. Right now, her grip was slipping and that gave her captive time to jump backwards and squish her. As her prey tried to recover, the Queen Quake Spider rolled to her feet and pinned her head to the ground.
Little Kong shook off the daze from the headbutt, consciousness coming back to her and seeing his temporary ally trying to escape. Little Kong roared at her to get her attention, the queen sparing him a look. While that alone wouldn't stop her, he grabbed a fistful of dirt and trees and threw it at her. Annoyed, she crawled on top of her and began shooting out globs of web at him. He jumped and ducked under them, turning left and right as he raced to save his ally.
When he began to close in, she aimed to do to him what she did to her old enemy. Said enemy took the small opening she had and chomped down on her mouth, stunning her and crushing into that accursed needle of hers. Alarms blared into the mind as she thrashed out of her grip, the Skullcrawler refusing to let this chance slip from her hands. The rancid taste did nothing to deter a creature that would eat anything in sight. By the time she let go and spat out what bled from it, she could see how mangled it was.
The queen wanted to make clear that she had other ways to kill her, spewing fiery death onto her. Her screams pushed him to run harder, but she lifted her aim toward him. He sidestepped under the death cloud and swung an arm into her, his partner crawling away as he pushed her back. She swung her legs downwards, pushing him in response. Kong stumbled back, but he kept firm as much as he could.
It was good that she got rid of one weapon, but they still needed to get rid of another. He could hear in the distance the spiders coming for their queen. Time was running out, this needed to end now! Pushing her legs back, he pummeled her with extreme prejudice. One punch missed and she rammed her leg into his face, breaking his nose.
He fought the urge to grab it and kept on fighting, grabbing her around the midsection and slamming her to the ground. There was no time to waste, so he wiped the blood from his face and smeared it into her multiple eyes. The Queen Quake Spider shook about trying to get it out. She pushed him off, trying to see. Lacking eyelids meant the blood went directly inside, she was partially blind now.
Physical combat wasn't reliable anymore, so she began firing torrents of fire and web snares through the air. Little Kong ran away, seeing her wild bombardment of projectiles. Both he and the skull devil backed away as she struggled to find a target. The son of Kong put his brain to work, looking to figure out how to handle this. Her lack of sight was an obvious advantage, but the weapons flying through the air was a clear obstacle in taking advantage of it.
Pain surged through Ramarak's mouth, her tongue beginning to swell alongside the burns from before. The fire was calming down due to how hard it was beginning to rain, so the smoke was beginning to grow in its stead… wait a minute! The smoke… a plan was beginning to hatch in his mind. He called Ramarak, explaining what he had in mind. Her simple mind meant she couldn't completely grasp what he was trying to accomplish.
Nonetheless, she went along with it and began gathering trees and charged forth. Kong himself kept a close eye for something useful, careful to avoid the fire. When he spotted another boulder, he took the chance and scooped it up. He carefully inspected rock to see if it met the qualifications for what was required of it. It seemed to weigh enough, be tough enough… yes, it should hold out.
Meanwhile, the Queen Quake Spider could hear her rapidly approaching footsteps, but when she turned to see she was only greeted with the smoking trees. She let out a furious screech, now completely without sight. She tried to get a hit on her, but she kept swinging uprooted trees in her mouth. When she smacked it out of her hands, she would grab more and keep up the smokescreen. She made things easier for her when she charged her in her rage, the serpent-like hypervore crawling up her back and shoving it right in her face.
She began spewing flames, just like Kong hoped she would. She turned toward the ape in question, seeing that he was closing in on them now. To buy him time, she pushed her to the ground, momentarily blocking off the living flamethrower. She heaved her off, only to be greeted with a mouthful of stone. With nowhere to go, the fire burst down her throat!
The spider squealed in agony as she lit herself ablaze, thrashing about blindly as her own weapon had been used against her! Kong and Ramarak watched as the terror writhed and suffered, rolling on her back and kicking wildly at the air. Eventually, the commotion came to an end as her legs curled in as lifeless eyes stared at nothing. The soldiers had finally arrived only to see the husk that once had been their queen and mother then at the ones who killed her. Kong began beating his chest and let out his loudest and strongest roar, sending them skittering away.
At last, the threat of the spider queen was over. Ramarak turned toward his partner and he looked right back. Usually, she would try to eat him the way her kind consumed everything else. For the first time in forever, she spared that idea no thought. She had been staring death in the face for so long and her tongue was going to suffer eventually as the final mark these past few moments had on her.
She didn't want food, she wanted to forget this had ever happened. Not sparing a second glance, she walked away as he waved goodbye. He looked up at the rain, seeing lightning flash in the sky in striking white and listened to the thunder roar. Taking in the peace settling in after a long and hard fought battle, he closed his eyes and opened his arms welcoming the cold rain. It was funny when he thought about it.
Darkness was a friend to those that wanted you dead, everybody knew that. It was the reason he wanted shelter in the first place, besides the obvious of course. Now it had a hand in saving his life. There would be other dangers, his partner today would be his enemy some time in the future. Tonight however, it was a dark and stormy night he couldn't be happier to welcome.
