I don't think I've ever personally seen any film fandom that genuinely enjoys the bulk or whole of a given franchise to be fair.
I used to be a lot more optimistic and outgoing, believe it or not. I used to actually be passionate about this stuff.

To this I disagree - we can at least kick people out of this forum, shun them on other social media sites, and so on. Not for any of these "who is a true fan" stuff but for certain actions and behaviors: namely those who endlessly harass others and send death threats.
I unapologetically, wholeheartedly, and without a doubt hate Godzilla vs Kong.

In a large fandom, there will always be varying opinions on the films. One fan thinks movie A is a masterpiece, and another fan is harshly critical. Gojira, as the original, will always be held in regard, but the multitude that followed will be subject to judgement on any given basis.

Unpopular opinion,
Gojira is a masterpiece (not an unpopular opinion)
But I will always prefer to watch King of the Monsters (I love the Steve Martin character)

I take it you also like G85. His speech as Godzilla is swallowed by the volcano is touching.

Yeah, I do.
Don't get me wrong, I still love the Japanese versions of the films, but will always prefer the Raymond Burr versions.
Between Steve Martin's speech, and the screech they added to Godzilla falling in to the volcano, Godzilla 1985 was the first time I ever cried in a theater as a kid. I was 11.
At the time, it was also the first Godzilla movie I had seen where Godzilla "died".

I loved it even more when I had read that Raymond Burr refused to do the movie, unless they took it seriously.
I'm glad they (mostly) did and we got Steve Martin in the movie and only had the Dr.Pepper swilling U.S. Officer's goofball comments to deal with.
Thankfully Steve Martin was there to shut him up, or give a good eyeroll, when he said something stupid. LOL

I'm not even a really big Raymond Burr fan. Never could get in to Perry Mason or much else he did.
But Raymond Burr in Godzilla movies, love him.

My very first Godzilla movie was the original with Raymond Burr. While I universally prefer the Japanese versions of the films, I adore Raymond Burr and feel that he adds a great atmosphere and perspective in the film. It changes it but I feel like it still works great. maybe i should rewatch it soon...

After watching more 70s tokusatsu shows like Ultraman Ace, Kamen Rider, Kamen V3, and Android Kikaida 01, Godzilla vs Hedorah, Godzilla vs Megalon, and Terror of Mechagodzilla are the most 70s Showa imo. Godzilla's Revenge, Gigan, and Mechagodzilla kinda of lean closer to 60s Showa style in terms of tone, pacing, and characterization.
GVK: TNE is a modern day 70s Showa Godzilla movie. Being a massive budget modern blockbuster CGI film instead of traditional 70s tokusatsu techniques doesn't change that.

Monsterverse is not similar to either MCU nor Bayformers just because all three are big budget CGI blockbuster franchises.

Honestly Raymond Burr carried that movie. He has some of the best quotes in the franchise.

Despite a lot of people pushing for it, a Hadrosaur Godzilla is a no-go for me. I'd rather take an original Hadrosaur kaiju any day.

Never really seen people pushing for this... I have seen some push for feathers though and I'm like hell no to that.

The 98 film Gargantua had a Hadrosaur like kaiju, so that gives you some idea what it could be like if Godzilla was based on one. I don't care for the idea, though.

Godzilla with feathers would be dumb. It’s a monster, not a scientifically accurate dinosaur.

That's an unpopular opinion I have. I don't like when people try to make the monsters realistic. They're fantastical creatures.

I wouldn't mind some short quills or pycnofibers on Godzilla, like on his head or chin to give the appearance of a beard of sorts. Full blown feathers is a absolute no-go for me though, same with basing him heavily on theropod dinosaurs. I suppose it's okay to take some aspects of real dinosaurs and incorporate them into Godzilla's design, but more often then not they end up looking like generic theropods with Godzilla spines tacked on.

I'm already cranky that they've started giving him digitigrade legs.
Like, I LOVE accurate dinos and I'm over-the-moon that accurate paleo content is finally hitting the mainstream again. But the appeal of Godzilla is that he's a retrosaur monstrosity. Making him "accurate" to any specific animal misses the point. And you can have a sense of realism without actual accuracy; I think the 2014 design does this perfectly.

One thing that really annoys me is that people mistake "realistic" for "grounded" when they're 2 different things. G14 and to a lesser extent KSI and KOTM grounded their monsters, with Godzilla himself having traits and adaptations that better convey the idea that he COULD live in our world even though he never could realistically. Grounding the monsters in a way that they're more believable isn't an inherently bad thing and I'm sick of people automatically dismissing it. Making it 100% realistic does take away from what makes a Kaiju but GROUNDING them doesn't.

Also, the digitigrade feet are fine, fucking fight me
"[GxK] feels like a proof of concept for Legendary to make a film entirely by AI. Monster fights are the one thing it offers and it fucks them mostly too, every other aspect of the film is dogshit and it seems to genuinely mock its audience for watching it."

I agree with this for the most part. There's a difference between the two that many dismiss as making them "boring".

:mechanikong: ....!
I just don't like em; simple as lol. They don't make much mechanical sense on an upright creature and they feel like an unnecessary modernization.
