Just don't call me Shirley.
I'm waiting to get my brakes done so I can zip up the road and do my part.
In Michigan, Prop 3 is on the ballot to protect reproductive health and women's healthcare. I really hope we pass it. I'm aware that a few states are going to be voting on changing their constitutions to remove wording that allows slavery to be used as punishment, and I really hope that happens.
I get the sense that a lot of Americans are ready to vote this midterm and do something about these dusty jokers trying to strip our freedoms away. I hope I'm right.

Papua New Guinea's black-naped pheasant-pigeon hadn't been recorded since 1882, and they finally caught trail cam footage of one. It's kind of humbling when something like this happens. We think we know and control 'our' planet, but these birds were able to evade science for 140 years. What else is hiding right under our noses?

Re: Official News topic
Man, the news is as depressing and disheartening as always. So many variables, dangers, attitudes - makes one wonder if any of it can be redeemed. And losing several famous people in the film business that I looked up to as a kid is still strange to process.
But, despite all the crazy disheartening things in the news, I like to remind myself to keep realizing what matters. The little things in life, the people and the feelings. Yeah, it's okay to appreciate nostalgia if you can nurture it into a new idea without living in the past. As in I'd rather live life appreciating the gift from creative people that I believe has been passed on, and in turn passing that gift on myself. I'm content knowing there isn't going to be real solutions to any of the problems currently affecting the US and the world, however I think little bits can change if we're strong enough to be gentle.

Wise words. "Strong enough to be gentle."
All I saw on the news today was negative, from a world and national level to local. Protesters blinded, the shooting in Colorado Springs... But we have the power to breed positivity in our own spheres by leading with empathy and being "strong enough to be gentle."
It just sucks that you never know when those horrors are going to suddenly appear in your community.
But then, I guess sometimes you get a black-naped pheasant-pigeon.

Re: Official News topic
Well, the horrors suddenly appeared in my community. There's a shooting in progress at a public school in Cartersville, Georgia. Not my hometown, but close enough that it might as well be. This shooting doesn't seem to have made the news yet, but my mom happened to be driving past and saw cops storming the building with their guns drawn.
EDIT: And it was a prank call. Fucking idiots could actually have gotten someone killed. Oh well, no actual harm done, thankfully. I guess it was good training for the cops; they seem to have been very fast and thorough in responding, so that's good to know.

Espionage of some sort. We don't know what kind of equipment they were carrying, but the one that was shot down is currently being gathered up for analysis. I guess we'll find out soon.

A 7.8 magnitude earthquake has devastated parts of Turkey and Syria: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/tu ... 60ee32339a
Over 4,200 buildings destroyed and a death toll climbing by the hour. It's freezing, miserable winter weather there, too, which makes the situation that much worse for everyone involved.
