Obviously I'm taking the bait here and we're just talking hypotheticals, but buying a toy just to publicly break it goes beyond trolling. Most of these things are limited quantity and hard to get, so you're literally just taking something away from someone that actually wants it and destroying it so you can laugh at them. The above is painfully accurate. I'm in a few Godzilla meme groups on Facebook and the Heisei worship is unreal. Especially because it's always accompanied by the same cringeworthy "Showa is too kiddy and whacky" argument.

If you really want to piss off a large portion of the fandom, all you have to do is compare any other film favorably to the original. Bonus points for a film that's mid-tier in popularity - Godzilla 2000, for example - so that it's not obvious trolling.

Yup. I get Godzilla groups recommended to me all the time on FB. And all of them are full of two things...

1) An almost disturbing, overwhelming amount of Heisei love. Seriously, these movies can absolutely do no wrong with most of these people. These are the best films. These are everyone's favorites. These are the definitive Godzilla movies.

2) Showa films getting backhanded compliments. People say they like them, but it's always with a quantifier. They're enjoyable but they're stupid, or campy, or silly or just too goofy to ever take seriously.

I know it's because these groups are full of teenagers or young adults who don't look very deep at these.movies, but it's still ridiculous.
