What kind of soundtrack would you want for your own Godzilla movie?
Mine would be revamped tracks from movies like : Terror of Mechagodzilla, Invasion of Astro-Monster and Destroy All Monsters. In somewhat in the same style Of the KOTM soundtrack. Not too on the nose though.
Pretty much means my Godzilla movie would have aliens in it. Which is always fun.
Edit: actually I might use one of the tracks from the Super Godzilla game. Some of those tracks were pretty good, would be interesting to hear it in a cinematic quality. I would use the track that you hear before a level starts , where it shows the map. It is track 2. I always felt a Showa vibe from it. Like listening to it gives me visions of Anguirus and Godzilla side by side. That’s just me though.

My ideal three would be:
1. By John Powell, one of my alltime favourite composers.
2. Be both metal and industrial, and have an apocalyptic feel to it.
3. Use traditional japanese instruments and chanting.

Kan Sawada's score for Singular point is a pretty good reference point to imagine what I'd want. I'd want to scrap the classic Godzilla march in favor of his much more threatening theme from 1962. Additionally, any other kaiju that would return from previous films in the franchise would retain their respective themes. Other than that, make everything else new but still keep that same orchestral/Ifukube feel.

An Alan Menken score. With, like, songs and stuff. Baragon gets the "I want" song. Hedorah gets the villain song. Mothra and Biollante get the love song. Cause I be progressive, yo.

I think a vs Mechagodzilla movie featuring a heavy tecno/rock/dubstep themes would be kinda interesting. Or a good combo like Ifukube tried to do with Terror of Mechagodzilla.

Something like dark techno and dark ambient along with some works by Akira Ifukube, Takayuki Hattori and Michiru Oshima.

Hidenori Shoji could bring a more techno, fiesty, and brawler feel to fights. He always knows how to make truly heartbreaking themes as well, and comedic riffs if things get funky. Dude has range for sure.
Or just use Puff Daddy songs.

I'd want Michiru Oshima to return, with maybe some extra chanting.

My ultimate dream Godzilla soundtrack would be done by Alan Silvestri, one of my absolute favorite composers. He already proved that he can do the classic theme justice in Ready Player One so if he did a full Godzilla score with the same quality as RPO and the last two Avengers movies, that would be so amazing.

If Destroyah was brought back, I'd use Mars, Bringer of War for his introduction scene.

I am a big fan of classical and opera music, so for me, something along the lines of Wagner's complex, theatrical scores or Tchaikovsky's bombastic brass scoring would be great.
For what I think would make a good score for Godzilla that hasn't been done in full before, I'd say heavy metal would work well with Godzilla.

Re: What kind of soundtrack would you want for your own Godzilla movie?
I'd love to go back to an electronic soundtrack, like GMK or GFW.
Frankly, It'd be nice to see the Monsterverse get more experimental with the soundtracks. Going for some noise, industrial or electropunk. I wouldn't even be mad at some Noisia-cirica-DmC vibes.

I just want memorable motifs. I don’t think I’ve gotten that from Hollywood since…maybe Inception.

I would be completely comfortable with only using existing library tracks or re-recordings of the already existing music. You HAVE to use the classic themes and songs. One day Hollywood will give up in even considering having composers write unique, new themes for Godzilla. Not that Holkenborg didn't create an awesome theme for Godzilla, but you can't beat 70 years of association and lineage with some new track.
Any composer could work with all of the classic material and do a good job.

I don't think it's a matter of trying to beat the classic material. You'd have to have Devlin and Emmerich level idiots making a movie for them to be trying to replace or outdo Ifukube. All that needs to be done is make a new score that works for the movie it's in. No, it won't trigger the same kind of comfortable nostalgia when lifelong fans hear it for the first time, but that's not a good reason to stop trying to do new things.

The Kiryu movies created a great new theme for Godzilla.
