How Would You Make The Next Godzilla and Kong Films?

Post by Jermobooka »

Future Monsterverse installments have been on my mind recently, and I want to know how some of you would make a follow up to Godzilla vs Kong.

I’ll start with my two Godzilla and Kong film pitches.

Godzilla Returns
Spoiler:
One half of the story is about Monarch investigating strange, hostile plant life glowing sporadically across the globe. The other half is Godzilla following his senses and tracking down the disturbance himself, all while managing the restless Titans growing agitated by the mysterious flora.

The “plant life” is, of course, Biollante.

Biollante’s goal is to get to the Hollow Earth and consume its energy to ease the pain of her existence.

The villain is a mad, grief ridden husband/scientist who created a monster out of anger towards Godzilla and longing for his deceased wife. He mixed Godzilla DNA retrieved from the battle ground of San Francisco, DNA from his wife’s corpse, and DNA from a bouquet of flowers to create a creature to unleash his grief on the world and the king of the monsters. Basically Goro Maki but possibly even more insane.

A lot of allusions to Frankenstein and his monster with the scientist and Biollante.

There’s more of a focus on Godzilla and his character, since Legendary wants to take the MV into a more “monster oriented” direction and explore them some more.

Godzilla goes through the movie and faces things like aggressive military, Titans, and Biollante-infected Titans.

The final battle between Godzilla and Biollante takes place in Dubai. There’s one standout scene where Biollante uses her vines to grab hold of Godzilla, lifts him high into the air, and throws him through the Burj Khalifa,

Godzilla has a moral dilemma in his final battle. Kill a remnant of his long lost species or fulfill his duty and cleanse the earth of the abomination. He, of course, ends up choosing the latter and blasts Biollante’s reddish-orange center and she cries out in pain,

The mad scientist ends up dying by the corrosive meltdown of Biollante.

After finishing the fight, Godzilla would do as he always does and wade out to sea, restoring balance once more.

Kong: Hollow Earth
Spoiler:
The story follows Monarch (mainly Nathan Lind, Ilene Andrews, and Jia) all accompanying and assisting Kong during his battle for supremacy. They’re side characters, for the most part.

The real meat of the story is with Kong. At the beginning of the film, Kong lets out a loud roar. The roar is heard by all creatures in the Hollow Earth and is taken as an “I am the Alpha” call. What ensues is wave after wave of Titans and monsters all going after Kong to claim the title of “king” for themselves.

No specific villain.

Kong is basically on the run and goes through all the different biomes and terrain of the Hollow Earth, learning even more of the worlds past and lore through his journey.

One scene would be Kong running away from a bigger bird like creature with a long, spiked tongue. Hopping from giant floating island to giant floating island and swinging on large vines and rock formations. He ends up jumping on its back and forcefully riding it (by using his axe and putting it in a choke hold) into one of the mountains, killing it.

The final battle would be a free-for-all battle royale between Kong and a shit ton of other Titans/Monsters in a bioluminescent, giant volcano filled landscape. The victor in the end would, of course, be Kong. Keeping his rightful title of “King”.

I think it will be refreshing to see a Monsterverse film (preferably the next Godzilla) end on a lower note than its predecessors. Also, maybe the next Godzilla film should act as a modernized Godzilla Vs Biollante by tossing in genetic engineering into the storyline and possibly make Biollante Godzilla's opponent. In addition maybe Godzilla could get an offspring by scientists cloning him in a lab.

We already got outer space and under the ground. So I guess this leaves perhaps genetic engineering or if it really gets wacky, other dimensions like SP. Of course who says it has to be different every time? I think a threat from outer space is a classic trope and will always work no matter what.

The movie starts with a battle between Godzilla and another Titan in Australia, a monstrous serpent with a mixture of overlapping scales and rough, alligator-like scales. The beast proves a formidable challenge for the Alpha Titan, but Godzilla is victorious. When it doesn't relent nor bow, Godzilla engulfs it with his atomic ray, obliterating most of its limbs and face in a fiery explosion. The flames expand to fill the screen and the opening credits begin, giving a backstory of sorts.

Ever since APEX acquired the power of the Hollow Earth, a new arms race has begun. Nations around the globe now look to power their weapons with the forbidden energy source of the Titans. Monarch has manage to prevent most nations from entering the Hollow Earth, but pressure from various countries continue to grow as they develop the next generation of technology. In an attempt to muscle their way into the Hollow Earth, an unknown country as teamed with the rogue Alan Jonah (or some other new character). Using stolen information from various militaries and APEX, Jonah has constructed his own bio-mechanical titan in secret using the vanquished Titan and the remnants of APEX technologies to construct a new, cyborg Titan.

Gigan.

At the same time, every nation on Earth now has Godzilla in the crosshairs, but none of man's weapons are able to hurt the King of the Monsters. Godzilla, while not acting aggressive toward man, is viewed with extreme bias due to the sheer amount of damage and loss of life he caused during his battles with Kong, especially the sinking of multiple ships and a carrier, an event that cost billions of dollars and well over three-thousand lives. Alan Jonah (or whoever), working behind the scenes, is in hopes of using Godzilla's natural ability to generate the energy to power the next wave of technology that would allow humanity to rule over the Titans forever.

In the Hollow Earth, Kong rules much like he did on Skull Island. Very few challenge him and some other Titans, including an armored, spiky one dubbed Anguirus has even become a sort of loyal follower.

Gigan takes the Monarch Hollow Earth entrance by surprise and devastates the defenses and breeches the underground realm. The machine is a tidal wave of death for the Hollow Earth, slaughtering droves of Warbats, Skull Crawlers and other creatures. That is until he reaches Kong's domain, which is perched on top of the rubble of the kingdom of Kongs that collapsed years ago. Kong battles bravely against Gigan with the aid of Anguirus, but is unable to defeat it. Anguirus is horribly maimed by its buzzsaw-like weaponry and massive blades. Nearly killed himself, Kong is forced to retreat and makes his way to the surface, emerging in the desolated Hong Kong from the last war.

Without Kong, Jonah and his forces begin to mine great amounts of this raw power from the Hollow Earth. It is then transferred to several of their clients. On the surface, Kong is targeted by humanity as well, despite Monarch's pleas as they swore he'd never return to the surface world. Already wounded by the battle with Gigan, the great ape is nearly slain by a MOAB drop before a familiar roar echoes. Godzilla has sensed Kong's return. Seeing Godzilla coming to the rescue, the human forces turn away knowing their conventional weapons are now useless, and not wishing to drag Godzilla into a war that could spill out into more urban areas. Satellites track Godzilla and Kong's every move.

In the Hollow Earth, Jonah's creation is wrecking havoc while using its monstrous limbs to unearth tons of the raw material. At this point, the human characters have deduced whom is behind Gigan and manage to convince the US and other nations to stop Jonah from unleashing a wave of destruction not seen since Ghidorah's reign as King. A new weapon is unveiled: the Gotengo.

Able to tunnel through the Earth and carve a new entrance into the Hollow Earth itself to take Gigan by surprise, the craft is dispatched with an Oxygen Destroyer. Sensing what the humans are about to unleash in the Hollow Earth, Godzilla begins to hunt the Gotengo. A fierce battle erupts on the coastline where Kong is forced to make a decision: serve with the Alpha or help the humans. Kong ultimately saves the humans and knocks Godzilla unconscious by a surprise hit with his axe. This impact gives the Gotengo and Kong enough time to get clear of Godzilla.

When the Alpha awakens, Godzilla is enraged. He begins to follow the Gotengo and Kong into the Hollow Earth. Upon his arrival, the Titans down there instantly bow. Kong, sensing Godzilla's following, stays behind as the Gotengo heads toward Gigan with the Oxygen Destroyer. Godzilla eventually reaches Kong, whom stands defiant but visibly doesn't want this to go South again. Just as Godzilla's spines begin to glow, Anguirus' bark-like call sounds. Both Titans look to the side as the spiked beast emerges, covered in wounds. The horned beast bows to Godzilla, but then looks at Kong and continues to roar. Godzilla's eyes narrow as he looks back at Kong, understanding now what has been going on. At this point, the humans begin to realize that while Godzilla and Kong understand one another, they truly can't communicate like Kong can with the humans. And communicating with Godzilla may be the last answer left to achieve universal peace with him and the Titans.

Godzilla, Kong and Anguirus begin a warpath through the Hollow Earth to reach Jonah's creation. The Gotengo reaches it first and battles it with an assortment of lasers and rockets, but nothing prevails. Just as the Oxygen Destroyer is ready to fire, Gigan retaliates with a beam from its single eye. The beam, much like MechaGodzilla's, instantly downs the warship. However, just before the death blow can be given, the Alpha Team arrive...

You can see the rest of how this would play out. My idea for this film would be to take part more in the Hollow Earth than anything, and I really want to see Godzilla down there. So there wouldn't be a ton of collateral damage. The stakes of the film would be a bit higher than GvK's, but not as much as KoTM since Jonah (or whoever...) wouldn't actually get to unleash the Hollow Earth energy at its fullest due to the arrival of the hero forces.
