If filming starts later this year, we may be looking at a late 2023 or early 2024 release.

Yeah, I was slightly disappointed GvK didn't get a nomination. I certainly wasn't expecting to win anything, but a VFX nomination would have been nice. Especially seeing Shang-Chi get one, which in my opinion had some of the worst CGI I've seen in the MCU. And this is coming from someone who enjoyed the film and loves the MCU.Handsome Shrek wrote: ↑Sun Mar 27, 2022 3:47 pm Lmfao a skreeonking James Bond movie gets nominated for a VFX Oscar but Godzilla vs Kong is nowhere to be mentioned

Goes to show that the Oscars are more of a joke than an actual accomplishment

Oh no! Where are we going to get validation now?
Never understood people whose interaction with the Oscars begins and ends with complaining about movies they like not getting nominations or wins. If you think the Oscars are lame, GvK having presence there wouldn't make it any less so.

There are lots of reasons the Oscars are stupid, but one of them absolutely isn't the academy not acknowledging a freaking Godzilla movie.Thatguy4683 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 27, 2022 11:00 pm Goes to show that the Oscars are more of a joke than an actual accomplishment

Agreed.
On another note. Anyone else really appreciate the score for this film now?
I think it’s kind of generic on its own but it hits hard in the film itself which is what matters.
Comparatively, GKOTM has a great score, my all time favorite Godzilla score possibly, and yet the sound effects completely wash it out in the context of the film.

Today marks one year since the movie came out.
My still overall thoughts?
A flawed but fun loud roller coaster ride of a monster basher movie.
I still think Kong: Skull Island is the best of the four MonsterVerse movies.

The fact they literally made the son of one of the most important characters in the MonsterVerse into a literal background character/random mook. May very well had been just that.daveblackeye15 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 31, 2022 8:30 am Yeah still lamenting Serizawa's son was a waste but it is a fun movie.

Per WETA, the Warbats names were Nozuki (we already knew this) and Yoshima.

If it helps GVK was at least a finalist for Best Visual Effects. Dune was always going to win, but yeah, I'd place GVK over Free Guy or Shang-Chi.
Anyway - Just happened to rewatch this for the first time back on its one-year anniversary. Saw it for the first time on HBO Max, this was on Blu-ray (finally got around to purchasing it). I could use my brain and nitpick, but I'll just share what my heart has to say instead -

Re: Godzilla vs. Kong Discussion Thread - FULL SPOILERS AHEAD
Wonder if I'm still the only one who had wish the reason for Godzilla going after Kong and wanting to kill him was due to the latter's species ancestors being destroyers/conquerors who enslaved titans and had early humanity living under constant fear until the war between Godzilla's and Kong's kind which lead to the former's victory and survivors of the latter being driven to Skull Island.
The idea being that the Kong's could have been basically us but at a much larger scale and level if the temple is anything to go by.
It certainly would have made Godzilla seem less of a jackass in the film. He's simply trying to avoid another "Planet of the Apes" scenario.

Godzilla is seen as a jackass in the film because humans think the world revolves around us. Godzilla was no different than any other Alpha in the world like a Lion or a Chimp.GodzillaFan1990's wrote: ↑Sat May 21, 2022 11:58 am Wonder if I'm still the only one who had wish the reason for Godzilla going after Kong and wanting to kill him was due to the latter's species ancestors being destroyers/conquerors who enslaved titans and had early humanity living under constant fear until the war between Godzilla's and Kong's kind which lead to the former's victory and survivors of the latter being driven to Skull Island.

Have to agree with this. One of my sister's cats, for example, Big Chungus, is the local alpha male. His brother, Cremo, might generously be called the omega male. Chungus is a sadistic bastard about his authority, and just treats Cremo like crap 24/7. There are probably dead leaves in the yard that are more likely to stage a coup than Cremo is, but he still needs to be kept in his place.miguelnuva wrote: ↑Sat May 21, 2022 2:10 pm Godzilla was no different than any other Alpha in the world like a Lion or a Chimp.
