If you were in charge of the Monsterverse

Post by JGAR »

As we wait for GvK news any day now, I decided to create this topic as a fun pastime.

Basically, what would you do if Warner Bros. and Legendary were to hire you to oversee the Monsterverse from day one? This includes things that you would do differently, which films would you produce, your ideal slate for the films, etc.

Here’s what I would have done;

-The comic books such as the one with Shinomura are non canon, all they do is mess up the timeline and are badly written.

-Have WB Games produce a fighting game similar to the Atari trilogy and featuring a much bigger roster.

-Toho monsters instead of newbies.

Phase 1

Godzilla (2014) - the usual (we see the airport fight, Joe Brody lives through the end), and replace the MUTOs with a pair of Kamacuras. Much closer to the 1954 film by having the nuclear allegory more relevant to the plot. A different score featuring the classic Toho theme song, composed by someone like Danny Elfman.

Rodan (2016) - lower budget, smaller scale horror film. R-rated prequel that takes place in the 50s during the rise of nuclear power. The plot is identical to the original film (featuring the Meganulon) but shows the origins of Monarch following the discovery of Godzilla in 1954 and takes place in Russia to coincide with the Dyatlov Pass incident of 1959. Rodan has his iconic roar and theme song. Rodan leaves an egg that is discovered in Mexico.

King Kong: Skull Island (2017) - replace the big Skullcrawler with Gorosaurus, the smaller ones with Ebirahs, and Mother Longlegs with Kumonga. Feature characters from Rodan (John Goodman’s character could’ve appeared there and crossed over into this one). The real post credits scene is the film’s ending, and the original idea with Godzilla swimming through ice as the post credits scene.

Godzilla 2 (2018) - ugh, there’s so much I would change with the human plot that it’s too much. For the monsters, include Anguirus, Baragon, Varan, King Caesar, and obviously Rodan for the monsters that bow to Godzilla at the end. Between 2014 and this film, we would see Serizawa create the Oxygen Destroyer (this time around created using ingredients from Destroyah, a role reversal from the Toho series), that way it would make a major impact when it’s used in the story and would add more to his already emotional death scene. King Ghidorah would have his roar and theme song.

Godzilla vs. King Kong (2020) - since we don’t know the plot, this is my summary pitch. Monarch has an outpost in Skull Island. Kong is the alpha and kept the ecosystem inland from the Titan awakening. Seismic activity however starts to disrupt the island and attracts the attention of Godzilla. This leads to the first fight with Godzilla winning. The human conspiracy is revealed to be that Monarch was infiltrated by Jonah and has been underneath in the Hollow Earth, secretly building Mechani-Kong. Kong comes to the rescue and fights MK, winning the fight. Kong returns to the surface and engages in another fight with Godzilla, where he outsmarts him and brings to win. MK, looking different with spines, suddenly comes out and blasts both away before flying off. Kong follows it to Hong Kong, where it is revealed to have transformed into a different monster: Mecha Godzilla. Kong proves no match but is indirectly saved by Godzilla and the fight becomes a 2v1. Both defeat MG and go their separate ways. Post credits scene: Jonah building Mecha-King Ghidorah.

I’m gonna do Phases 2 and 3 later, this is enough for now.
Yooo 8-)

I only have one idea. Instead of having Godzilla 2 be a whole Avengers shebang with Rodan, Mothra and King flipping Ghidorah, I'd just make it a movie version of Aftershock instead that would conclude Godzilla's rivalry with the MUTOs by having the Prime's children surrender to Godzilla and discarding their parasitic origins to become part of the Natural Order (Regular Femutos can breed normally, parasitism is unnecessary and imbalanced, a little birth control and reigning in their destructiveness would allow them to be part of the Natural Order). Not only would this leave some breathing room in the very second Godzilla movie instead of going all out and keep the pacing controlled, but it also lets us build up to Ghidorah being a Phase Villain like Loki instead of a one-shot mook. (but leave his severed head alive, giving him potential for returning as an even stronger Arc Villain like Thanos by going Mecha or Grand or Keizer or something later down the line)

It's the balance between spectacle and story for me. The most interesting characters, to me, have been Brian Cranston, Ken Watanabe, Sally Hawkins, and John Goodman, all of which died. I think if you followed the same story in 2014, while also throwing Cranston into the mix to go back-and-forth with Watanabe, it would've made for a much more interesting film. In KOTM, I thought the biggest problem was trying too hard to nail the whole recycled "humans bad, must kill humans" story, along with a Kyle Chandler who could do no wrong. It would've been better to scale back on that. Story first, supplemented by monster action. I felt KOTM went the other way, where it was a film with awesome visuals, with a thin story built around it to get us from one scene to another.

G14: Bryan's character: Keep him alive! The film would be about him trying to reunite with Ford while also dodging the M.U.T.O's and Godzilla. Speaking of which,i would change Godzilla's feet to look more like the Millennium versions and his spines' would resemble the 64 design.

Kong: Keep it the same, but Kong and Ramarak would be Godzilla sized from the start. (Kong being 93 meters and Ramarak being 100). Also i would keep the original 2016 November release.

Rodan vs. Mothra: This film would release in 2017. The two titular monsters would be the same in KOTM and would be ancient rivals. Mothra eventually kills Rodan, but then at the post credit scene: It's found out Rodan was a female and she layed an egg! Also the film would hint at other Toho monsters being in the universe, for example,a painting of Gorosaurus on the cave wall.

I'll be back for the other films.

Godzilla 2014: Scrap Brody entirely. Make the film about Joe Brody and Serizawa, and the conflict between them. Brody wants to exterminate Godzilla because he could be dangerous, and he doesn't want anyone else feeling the same as he does, going throught his situation. Serizawa believes that Godzilla should be let to do what he must, to let Nature repair itself, and not intervene and accidently make it worse.

Kong Skull Island: Mostly the same, but with better quality on acting and stuff (November 2016)

Godzilla Aftershock: Make this a mix between the two tie in comics. Make the Camazotz the central villain kaiju, which can drinks blood from Kaiju and can win their abilities Introduce Rodan here as the natural enemy of the Camazotz, just as Godzilla is for the MUTOs (Later half of 2018, to not be swallowed by Infinity War)

Will post my thoughts on KOTM later

Actually, scratch this.

This would be a solo Rodan movie.

Assuming that both G14 and KSI did better both financially and critically, then it's now or never to do this step

And, let's be honest, to survive the Monsterverse needs more than only being able to hang on Kong or Godzilla

Re: If you were in charge of the Monsterverse

Post by MothraRocks »

I’m at work so I’m gonna make this a brief-ish post, but if I had reign of the MonsterVerse, what I would try to do, realistically speaking is:

Godzilla (2014)
Kong: Skull Island (2016)

Godzilla 2 (2017)
This one would involve Godzilla, Rodan, and Mothra. It would go something along the lines of Rodan and Godzilla being alpha species and rivals and at some point cross one another and fight various times, creating mayhem; neither can seemingly topple the other for too long and fight to stalemates. While this is going on, Monarch comes across a giant cocoon and the mythology of Mothra. Dr Chen could step in to provide info or if they want, introduce two new characters to play this universe’s version of the Shobijin.

After Mothra hatches, it is revealed she is very intelligent, and understands the humans are in danger because of Godzilla and Rodan being dicks. She flies over to them and through intricate patterns of bioluminescence, attempts to get them to calm down. When this doesn’t work, she engages in battle with them, and it becomes a free for all.

— something something other details —

In the end, Rodan is eventually tricked into resting in a volcano that collapses in on and traps him in pyrostasis. Mothra eventually lures Godzilla away from the city, out to sea through various pollens. Once they are far enough, Mothra takes off, and Godzilla, figuring it’s too much trouble, returns to the depths. Mothra returns to her temple in the pacific, but Dr Chen notes that if humanity is not careful, the destruction of the planet could wake up something more vicious and devastating than Rodan.

End credits scene of Dr Graham arriving at another Monarch base, where she continues her research of the mysterious Titan, dubbed “Monster Zero”.

Godzilla: King Of The Monsters (2019)

Same monster cast, only this time it consists of Godzilla needing help from both Rodan and Mothra to defeat Ghidorah.

-Antarctica fight happens as before
-Mothra intercepts Ghidorah over South America and is promptly defeated.
-Ghidorah approaches Isla de Mara and in a desperate attempt, monarch blows up the lid of the Volcano to release Rodan in hopes he can slow Ghidorah down. Rodan at first holds his own, but Ghidorah quickly gains the upper hand. At one point, Godzilla arrives and attacks Ghidorah.
-This gives Rodan enough time to recover, and in a fury, returns to attacking Ghidorah. For a few moments, it seems Ghidorah is going to lose, not able to stand up to the might of Godzilla and Rodan.
-However, Rodan is still a bit of a dick, and cannot help but get a hit in on Godzilla. Godzilla retaliates. They start to quarrel and this gives Ghidorah enough time to get back on his feet and defeat the two. Rodan is beaten enough that he actually takes off, and Godzilla is injured to the point he disappears into the depths.
-Ghiddy wakes up everyone else.
-Mothra shows everyone we’re Godzilla is via Godrays, they also note that there is a residue trail leading down to where Godzilla is and very gently heating him up.
-Mothra at some point tracks down Rodan and through bioluminescent patterns, is trying to convince him to team up to defeat Ghidorah. Rodan acts aggressively towards Mothra, and she leaves, headed to DC where Ghidorah is now.
-Instead of reviving Godzilla via nuke, Monarch decides that you can’t just nuke things to get what you want in life and instead figure to fire a missle at a thermonuclear vent in Godzilla’s layer. The surge of radiation revived him, he does the Rebirth scene, and heads to Boston where Madison has activated the ORCA.
-Ghidorah lands in Boston, Godzilla arrives in Boston, and the two duke it out. Godzilla is holding his own for a bit, but when he blasts Ghidorah back with his breath, Ghidorah demonstrates perseverance by actually taking a few steps towards Godzilla, against his atomic beam.
-Just it looks like Godzilla is running out of steam and his breath is weakening, Mothra descends from the clouds, webbing Ghiddy to the side of the John Hancock building. Godzilla watches Mothra circle around before descending, sinking her arms into Ghidorah’s one free head. Accepting the help, Godzilla then charges Ghidorah and slams him through the building.
-Godzilla and Mothra fight Ghiddy for a while, but Ghiddy eventually knocks Godzilla down momentarily, and springs to the air, going for Mothra.
-Just as he is about to sink his fangs into her, Rodan appears and slams into Ghidorah, having been attracted by the ORCA calls. He gives a look of a begrudging understanding to Godzilla, and with that, the three monsters begin to team up on Ghidorah; Mothra is quick and agile, Rodan is burning hot and his armor provides him with some resistance to Ghidorah’s beams, and Godzilla is the heavy hitter.
-Just as Ghidorah is about to lose, he does the power plant thing, wing lightning, knocks Rodan and Mothra outta the air and then drops Godzilla.
-Mothra climbs atop Godzilla and sacrifices herself. As her powder rains on Godzilla, monarch notices his body temp going up like it did back in Bermuda with Mothra’s godrays, only much higher.
-Ghidorah starts to drain Godzilla, and as monarch is considering repairing the ORCA to lure ghiddy away, Rodan intercepts. Rodan is attacked and chased by Ghidorah. As Ghidorah corners Rodan, the buildings begin to melt and he looks behind him to see Burning Godzilla. Rodan manages to fly away while Ghidorah is distracted and crashes outside Boston.
-Burning Godzilla proceeds to demolish Ghidorah, taking almost no damage. Does the final nuclear pulse and disintegrates Ghidorah. Godzilla reverts to his normal self and is wiped out.
-The other Titans slowly appear from the ash, taking on aggressive stances against Godzilla. Rodan returns, landing in front of the weakened Godzilla and roaring. A moment of silence passes as the two glare
at each other before Rodan turns and roars the other Titans, choosing the align himself with Godzilla. With this, the other Titans (not including Rodan) bow to Godzilla, officially King of The Monsters.

After credits:
(A few weeks later)
-Various news clips shows things such as the media dubbing Godzilla as “King of the Monsters”, the fact that Boston is currently uninhabitable due to radiation, but it is clearing out fast and clean up should begin in a few months, and that there is a radiation leak in the North Atlantic from Godzilla’s lair, which Monarch is trying to figure out how to patch up.

-The camera pulls back from the TV screen and shows Dr Chen in a small bedroom. She leaves and walks outside, revealing she is on Infant Island. She enters Mothra’s temple and meets her twin. Ling asks her if Monarch is suspicious about them, but Chen assures her that Monarch thinks they have fully explored Mothra’s temple and that there is nothing worth containing or monitoring, and is fine with them checking the site every now and then.

-They move a pillar, revealing a hidden staircase that goes down and down; once below the two look up at a giant pulsating Mothra egg. The two clasp their hands together and quietly sing Mothra’s Song as the egg pulsates more and more.

The second end credits scene would be the one we already saw, with Godzilla having torn off Ghidorah’s head in Mexico and Jonah buying it from fishermen.

I’ll probably update some more when I get home in like an hour or so, but that’s my rough draft so far. Might do one for Godzilla vs Kong.

You can't put me in charge of this stuff. I would have gone too crazy.

At some point, discussions would have gotten to a point where I would have been "Look, I either get Gamera, Damaijin, Ultraman, and my G**D*** Gorosaurus or I freaking walk!".

Just a few ideas for KOTM:

-- Have Toho make two small films to introduce Mothra and Rodan before G:KOTM.
-- The credit cookie for G:KOTM would be some climate scientists or something looking at Skull Island, observing that the perpetual storm around it has suddenly stopped, due to Ghidorah's messing with the atmosphere. Ominously, a large bleep is seen leaving the island.
-- The first scene of G:KOTM would be set in the Mesozoic Era, with Godzilla losing both a mate and Varan to MUTOs (or Ghidorah).
-- Instead of the Oxygen Destroyer, the superweapon used by the military would be the ANEB, sythesized from bacteria found in the dead MUTO's gut.

Other ideas:

--Keep robots the heck out the universe. That's all.

Phase 2

Mothra (2021) - historical prequel set in medieval Asia, probably the most “Lord of the Rings“ and “Game of Thrones” like film in the Monsterverse. Follows a preteen girl who bonds with Mothra. The villain is Battra and he bonds with a boy. Ends with Mothra sacrificing herself to save civilization from Battra.

Journey to the Center of the Earth (2021) - another historical prequel, more Indiana Jones-like. Follows close to the novel and takes place in the 1800s. “The origins of the Monsterverse,“ includes titans such as Anguirus, Baragon, and King Caesar who have shown up but haven’t had their stories yet.

Frankenstein (2022) - R-rated prequel set in World War II, taking place in Nazi Germany. The classic Frankenstein story with a bigger monster and more tie ins to the universe (JttCotE and Mothra references probably since they’re before in the timeline).

Godzilla 3 (2022) - Hedorah as the villain, a man made horror that feeds off pollution. Similar in tone to 2014 and much darker, features the classic Godzilla-Anguirus partnership (albeit not as cheesy) as both unite to fight Hedorah. Dangerous human experimentations resurrect the Frankenstein monster as the cliffhanger for this film.

King Kong: the Eighth Wonder of the World (2023) - modern day Kong movie with the cast of characters from 1933/2005. There could be an opening scene set in 1933 to establish 90 years since the release of the first film (maybe the classic Kong vs T-Rexes scene featuring a “baby Kong” so it could look as big as the classic American version). Kong is taken to NYC but doesn’t die this time; the UN takes ahold of Mechani Kong and both have a rematch across the city that never sleeps. Kong wins and gets to return home.

Frankenstein vs. Godzilla (2023) - Frankenstein wreaks havoc and Godzilla comes in to stop him. While King Kong had homo sapient characteristics, Frankenstein is the most human Titan there is due to his origins. However, he’s the most antagonistic of the three. Frank and Godzilla have a couple of fights (the movie could take place in Europe). Mankind creates another abomination; Biollante. Godzilla and Frankenstein “team up” to stop it, but Frankenstein escapes after the climax.

Mothra II (2024) - takes place in the modern day Asia, another Mothra egg is discovered. A set of twins bond with Mothra this time around and become the Shojibin. The villain is Megaguirus and an army of Meganula. Mothra teams up with Rodan.

Godzilla 4 (2024) - vs. Gigan and Megalon. Both monsters come from Area 51 (aliens had to come in at some point). Godzilla gets knocked out and Anguirus is killed. A human character becomes JET JAGUAR and teams up with Godzilla to save the world. Gigan and Megalon escape into space.

King Kong vs. Frankenstein (2025) - the plot to put it simply, is very close to the original King Kong vs. Godzilla with Frankenstein replacing the latter. Frank is wreaking havoc closer to Kong’s vicinity (west coast America). Both have a climatic battle that ends with both underwater and struck by a large avalanche and rockslide. Kong emerges victorious with Frank nowhere to be seen.

Jet Jaguar (2025) - a superhero flick in the Monsterverse   Jaguar fights Gabara. I don’t know what the plot could be but it’s cheesy fun.

There are only three big things I’d change.

1. Delete Godzilla: Aftershock from the continuity. It just makes it all more messy and it seems Legendary might already be doing it.

2. Have some more connective tissue between the other films and GvK. Maybe some passing mentions of Ford Brody’s big heroic deed and footage of the Titans hibernating. Even some mentions of the crew that ventured into Skull Island all the way back in K:SI.

3. Show some more damn clear stuff of the Mothra v. Rodan fight in KOTM. That shit was super disappointing.

KotM:
  • The tone would be like K:SI, fun but not lampshaded.
  • Godzilla keeps his 2014 design, Mothra actually looks like a moth and Ghidorah would use Christopher Shy’s poster design.
  • Scrap the stupid “good radiation” thing. Seriously, what were they thinking?
  • Have a different naming scheme for the kaiju.
  • Keep the apex predator schtick from G14 and cut down on the fantasy just a bit. This means cutting the Mothra powerup and some more minor stuff.
  • The final battle takes place in Tokyo instead of Boston.
  • Rodan turns on Ghidorah near the end of the battle.
  • Have the nuclear pulse be a more natural move that Godzilla uses a bit more often. Replacing the burning pulse would be the red atomic breath, which manages to actually blow off Ghidorah’s heads and kill him.
GvK:
  • Make it a serious, more G14-like film (with better characters, of course)
  • Focus on Mark Russell instead of the most obnoxious character I’ve seen in a Godzilla film so far.
  • APEX’s mech is Mecha-King Ghidorah instead of Mechagodzilla.
  • Have Skull Island actually be inhabitable. Also, the first battle will be there.
  • Said fight wrecks Skull Island, leaving Kong homeless.
  • The 2nd fight is the carrier battle.
  • Instead of Pellucidar, have the Hollow Earth be a set of giant bioluminescent caverns like the Hidden World in HTTYD3.
  • Godzilla actually blasts Kong with his atomic breath after the roar-off. Team Kong is still able to bring him back, though.

I'm personally a fan of introducing Rodan as early as the first movie. Make him the first "big bad" that Godzilla has to fight; either a pair of Rodans like the Muto duo or a single Rodan that matches Godzilla's power would work. Bring him back later for KotM so you have less Toho monsters to introduce.

I also like the idea of making Mothra and Ghidorah interconnected as the two "mythical creature" monsters, one to represent life and the other to represent destruction, so my version of KotM would make Mothra a bigger player.

Obviously these are just simple ideas and not fully fleshed out ideas for movies.

Phase 1.

Godzilla (2014); Aside from not killing off Bryan Cranston, actually focusing on the fights when they happen, and having Ford succeed in disarming the hydrogen bomb, remain mostly unchanged.

Kong: Skull Island (2017); Remain unchanged. Good enough as it is.

Sora No Daikaiju (Late 2017); Sequel to Godzilla (2014). Takes place three years after the battle of San Francisco; main protagonist is Vivienne Graham, deuteragonist is Serizawa. Godzilla's size and design remains unchanged; Rodan stars as the villain, and stands taller than Godzilla. The two fight three times; Rodan wins the first round, the second ends in a draw, Godzilla scrapes by a win in the third round but Rodan survives, leaving him to reappear in the future. Rokmutl, Pterodactyl, and the unnamed multi-legged monster make an appearance in the 36 minute mark of the film, where they are subsequently killed by Rodan.

King of the Monsters (2018); Make many changes to the events that happen and the story surrounding them; keep the dark, serious tone of Godzilla (2014.) Godzilla's size still remains unchanged; actually show the fights when they happen. Replace Burning Godzilla with Supercharged Godzilla and the Red Spiral Ray; Mothra is a lot floofier in appearance and possesses her reflective poisonous powder. King Ghidorah actually beats Godzilla by himself in the first two fights; Ghidorah's fight with Rodan is a lot longer; Rodan does not fight on Ghidorah's side; no Oxygen Destroyer. Mid-credits show King Kong now fully grown; post credits foreshadow Anguirus.

Godzilla vs Kong (2020); No storm that destroys Skull Island. First battle between Godzilla and King Kong takes place on Skull Island; the second takes place at sea, Godzilla wins both fights. No Hollow Earth subplot. Final battle takes place in San Francisco, Godzilla seemingly wins until Kong gets struck by lightning, where he returns to the combat and eventually beats Godzilla but does not kill him. Mid-credits foreshadow Mecha-King Ghidorah, post credits deliver our first hint to the existence of Bagan.

Phase 1

Godzilla: swap the main character role with Ford Brody for Joseph Brody and have Ford Brody died and making Joseph Brody regrets discovering the Muto because if he didn’t discover it his son would’ve been alive
Have the first appearance of Godzilla and Male Muto be a fight not a big cut away, Godzilla will not use his atomic breath
Round two of the male Muto and Godzilla after he went through the bridge Will be also a fight instead of a big cutaway
The final fight will be a bit longer and show more of the action

K:SI: no changes

G:KOTM: have less cutaway
have Rodan vs King Ghidorah and Mothra vs Rodan Will be shown more about like 2-3 minutes long

GvK: clarify the intro about the Titans defeats, I saw a lot of people get confused about this and I even did too
Show more of the different Fana in The Hollow Earth
Have a Kong have a flashback of Godzilla fighting groups of Kongs and winning

Godzilla (2014)
- The movie centers itself a bit more around Godzilla. The MUTO are a mystery that slowly begin to be unveiled, but Monarch is primarily following Godzilla and trying to understand his patterns.
- Hokmuto will obviously travel by sky, but Femuto will be traveling through tunnels in the Hollow Earth. Foreshadowing for future mysteries and events, obviously.
- Joe Brody doesn’t die until the end of the movie (or he’s kept around to work at Monarch as a recurring character. I’m not sure which I want to stick with atm)
- The tone lonely plays out the same, though the fights are more clear and the movie itself is brighter in colorations.

Kong: Skull Island
- This can honestly remain unchanged? It’s got the least outright issues or ideas to mess around with. Maybe more foreshadowing of the Kong Temples in GvK? Like some ancient temples on Skull Island covered in moss or stone. Potentially it could serve as a good chase scene from the Skull Crawlers or be another version of the Kong Graveyard. But it’s not really required.

Godzilla II: King of the Monsters
- Godzilla’s design remains a mix of 2019’s and 2014’s. His tail is more similar to 2014’s if not slightly reduced, and his spines and legs are like 2019’s. (I guess it’s like 2021 with a proportionate head idk)
- The aftermath of 2014 is expanded upon, getting to see the struggles of the people beneath as the Titans around begin to resurface due to Ghidorah’s awakening.
- Rodan puts up a better fight against Ghidorah before ultimately falling.
- Oxygen Destroyer is built up to as an abandoned project Serizawa had in case the Titans went out of line. It was abandoned once he “made peace with his demons”, but was dug up by government officials.
- Rather than a Nuclear Bomb that revives Godzilla, it could be a reverse engineered version of the Oxygen Destroyer releasing the Hollow Earth radiation Godzilla’s kind thrived on… or something like that. Have fun with the sci-fi vibes here, basically. So it can smoothly weave into GvK.
- Similar foreshadowing could be done with the Wolves at the start displaying how the Alpha hierarchy works. Which pays off when the remaining Titans bow to Godzilla.
- Clearer action set pieces in Antarctica and Boston! More focus on Godzilla and Ghidorah’s fights could enhance the experience plenty!
- Rodan is on Team Godzilla after fighting Mothra briefly before the final battle. He’s a begrudging jerk, but means well enough… though it’s mostly to get back at Ghidorah for earlier.
- Burning Godzilla can still come into play, but with consequences. Godzilla has notable burns and scars from the cool down.
- The human plot I’d prefer if it followed Serizawa and Graham more. The sacrifice can still go down, but Graham remains alive through the movie.

I love KOTM as is, mind you. But some touch ups never hurt! Now finally…

Godzilla Vs. Kong
- This movie will explore the world of Titans set up post KOTM.
- APEX is a corporation meant to keep the Titans in check after they have all been awoken. However, some malicious goals seem to be rumbling underneath as the new boss sets themselves into place…
- Ren Serizawa is our main antagonist. He wants to slay Godzilla to tear down what his father’s life work has surmounted to, and to put an end to the age of monsters. Considering he has Monarch intel… yeah, he’s dangerous.
- Kong’s Hollow Earth plot remains the same. Kong himself though, might be a balance between his personalities in Skull Island and GvK’s. He’s got heart, but he’s prone to lashing out and going rogue if it means ruling his kingdom proper.
- Godzilla has a bit more sympathy in the movie. With Mothra gone and the world he knew left behind, he simply wanders the kingdom he calls his own, trying to stop the ringing in his ears (which is a modified Orca)
- Rodan makes a cameo as Godzilla’s second in command. He’s no Mothra and isn’t the wisest one to resolve conflicts with… but he’s trustworthy where it counts.
- While Godzilla has been attacking APEX facilities, it seems like he’s being lured, rather than hunting. Team Godzilla is trying to figure out why he’s going down this path, while incidentally ending up deep in APEX headquarters. (Basically, flesh out Team Godzilla’s plot. I’m not thinking too deep on this one lmao)
- More lore focus on the Godzilla/Kong war. The Kongs back then were protecting their own from Godzilla’s kind, especially since they were unpredictable and trying to call the Hollow Earth theirs. However, the Kongs began going too far. What started as a simple war for territory turned into the Kongs making weapons and tools, and taking pride in their attacks. The Godzillas one day fought back harder than ever, forcing the Kongs to Skull Island where they met their demise.
- Our Godzilla fought in that war at a younger state, and seems to be focused on keeping Kong in line. However it’s when he threatens to venture out where conflict rises. Cue fight!
- Three fights play out. Skull Island, the Sea, and Hong Kong. Skull Island’s fight goes to Kong as he disorients Godzilla enough to escape the island to find a passage to the Hollow Earth. Kong goes unconscious from exhaustion, and gets set out to sea. Second battle is the Ocean fight, which plays out as the movie portrayed it. Godzilla isn’t as destructive in the first two fights as he intends to make Kong submit. Hong Kong fight goes down, but it plays out a bit longer. Godzilla seems focused on stopping the Orca’s call at this point, until he sees Kong with the Axe that slayed his ancestors. Now it’s a personal fight.
- Hong Kong’s battle plays out similarly. Kong is a highlight with his agility and strategy making, while Godzilla’s highlights make use of his strength, physique, and atomic breath. The fight displays all their perks, before Godzilla comes out triumphant. Kong doesn’t submit, but he gets to know who the boss on the surface world is.
- MechaGodzilla is an optional addition? If he’s included, more scenes of build up and showcasing are a necessity, and the Ghidorah head used in his creation will come into play as he goes berserk. If not, a Godzilla staring down Ren scene like in Godzilla Vs. King Ghidorah could be cool as his defeat.
- Godzilla puts aside his hate of Kong and spares him, seeing he is needed in the natural balance. Kong puts aside the war his ancestors began as he learns coexistence. Whether it’s through brutalizing MechaGodzilla or the simple act of sparing, the two survive to see another day.
- Both monsters get their triumphant roar at the end of the movie.
- TL;DR. Let the movie feel like a Godzilla AND Kong movie instead of just a Kong movie with Godzilla as the antagonist.

GvK I wrote WAY too much about for what was ultimately just the main movie with extra scenes. But a Monster focus never hurt!

These are the changes I would make to the main line up. If I had extra energy, I’d try doing something completely new, with KOTM being the Avengers event to end phase one and other monsters like Mothra or Rodan getting a movie beforehand, but it’s late and I don’t have the energy atm.
Reignited... and hopefully less weird this time around.

I'm a guy with simple interests. Mostly revolving around monsters blowing up entire cities.
