I think I'm just going to wait indefinitely for blu-rays with extras.
Same here...
Hope you guys are ready to wait a while, because Toho's approach to the extras approval process isn't likely to change anytime soon.
And that's before we have to deal with MB's constant delays.

Ordered my Megalon blu-ray a couple days ago from Amazon. Hasn't shipped yet, and I'm hearing about a lot of people getting them. Let's hope they haven't already burned through their 5000 copies.

How much better is the picture quality on the blu-rays then it is on the DVDs?

They're the same transfers from the DVDs, just in 1080p. DAM has been out for years. I recommend looking up reviews and judging for yourself.

I'll gladly eat crow if it doesn't turn out that way....but at this point it feels painfully obvious, as it has for months.

Both DESTROY ALL MONSTERS and GODZILLA vs. MEGALON have shipped for me today! Should have them in a week or so. I'm glad to get them as they seem very scarce! Has anyone seen these in stores anywhere? I've been keeping a eye out but haven't even seen the Sony releases anywhere yet; which is why I went the online route to snag 'em.

My Blu-Rays arrived today! Here are some quick observations.

-There is only one English dub for Destroy All Monsters.

-The Megalon menu is great. It runs monster scenes from the movie while the Jet Jaguar theme song plays, with an intro that I've never heard before.

-The back of the case for Megalon removes any mention of bootleg copies of the movie.

Just watched my blu-ray copy of Megalon. While it still suffers from a lot of typical Toho transfer crap, most notably a haze that blurs many scenes, it's surprisingly really good. I often saw detail I had never noticed before, like the hair on Megalon's legs, or the inner rings on Jet Jaguar's eyes (or the zippers on the Gigan and Godzilla suits). It's still a complete shame that there's no special features, but for only $13 or less, this is definitely worth picking up. While not a complete night-and-day difference, I would also recommend upgrading from the DVD.

Reminder: Set the output of your Blu-ray player to full RGB PC levels for playing these gray looking Toho transfers. They are mistakenly calibrated for this setting. This applies to DAM, Megalon, and Biollante. This does NOT apply to the recent Kraken and Sony releases, as far as I know. The setting you are looking for might be called Full RGB, PC Levels, Darker Black, or something similar. I used to recommend calibrating your TV differently but changing the RGB output is in fact the correct solution.

Is there a difference in the packaging of the DAM 2014 re-release vs the 2011 release? Or is it like Megalon where both version have the same dvd cover?

So, anyone see that Wal-Mart exclusive Godzilla Stomp Box yet?

The back cover is different. The original release listed the extra features, while the current one doesn't (because there aren't any). The only reason Megalon didn't do that is because it was a manufacturing error that we got those extras at all.

There are three audio tracks, all of which are DTS-HD MA (lossless).

-Japanese 2.0
-Japanese 5.1
-English 2.0

Literally just a better picture quality. If you don't care about any of that, just get the DVD.

And if you don't care about picture quality, you might as well just keep those old VHS copies, although it would be just as silly. :-)

I was comparing the DVD and the Blu-Ray, not the VHS tapes or whatever.

I got the DVD, because it was cheaper at my f.y.e.

These transfers suck, so buying the BD wouldn't have been much of an upgrade, anyway.
