Just make sure you have a big enough ride haha it sounds dumb but I've been there. Had to leave a beautiful glass cabinet behind. It was $15 goddamn dollars.Godzilla21 wrote:Thanks Pops. Good idea didn't even think about thrift stores.

I just ordered the Return of Godzilla on Blu Ray, since I doubt the 85 version will ever hit home video again.

I just did a fairly large purchase of both the Criterion Showa Godzilla boxset and the Arrow Gamera boxset! Sadly with the latter I was hit by an aftermarket surcharge... serves me right for trusting Amazon with a pre-order. Still, really looking forward to both arriving and keeping me entertained in what looks like is going to be a fairly restrictive few months ahead in my country.

Without going into detail about how I'm currently living, the dvds are the best/most convenient way for me to watch it, so I wouldn't call it a "pointless purchase" at all. And I'm sure I'll find the picture quality to be serviceable enough.UltramanGoji wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 2:08 pmUnless you're a completist, seems like a pointless purchase when the Mill Creek Blu-ray is sourced direct from Tsuburaya and is much better.

Fair enough on the living situation but I wasn't just referring to picture quality. Regardless, my apologies.Leviarex wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 3:45 pmWithout going into detail about how I'm currently living, the dvds are the best/most convenient way for me to watch it, so I wouldn't call it a "pointless purchase" at all. In the past couple months I've bought...
Howl from Beyond the Fog (seriously, if you haven't gotten this yet get it - so good!)
The Host (hadn't seen this since...mid/late 00's - still great, and the cg holds up incredibly well)
Yongarry (shores up my Showa era collection somewhat, and is kind of fun to pair with Gappa)
The Heisei era set for Gamera (planning to get the Showa set later)
The last few Mill Creek Ultraman releases.
The Meg (stupid cheap at Wal Mart)

I unapologetically, wholeheartedly, and without a doubt hate Godzilla vs Kong.

A local import movie store recently got a whole bunch of old scifi DVDs, including several Godzilla and other tokusatsu releases. I decided to get the Sony DVD of MG74 and a more recent Swedish DVD of Reptilicus, which actually has both Danish and US versions.

Since I found it for under $30, I bit the bullet and bought ADV's 2008 re-release of Gunhed, as its the only 50s - 80s Toho SFX film I still need on (Region 1) DVD/Blu. I'm almost certain I'll never revisit the movie (Especially not on that crappy DVD), but I'm kind of a completist like that.

Do you mean the Mill Creek release?canofhumdingers wrote: ↑Fri Feb 26, 2021 7:17 pmIs there a reason to seek this out over the US double feature release from Sony?
Eureka's release has new audio commentaries for The H-Man: one by David Kalat and the other by Ryfle and Godziszewski. Kalat also recorded a new commentary for BioS to go along with the one Ed and Steve recorded for the 2009 Sony DVD. So, in short, four commentaries across two films. The Eureka disc also has some galleries (which I haven't looked at) and a booklet. Here's the official product page.
I don't have a multi-region player so I've been ripping the files to my computer to watch them. I haven't gotten around to BioS just yet, but when I do, I'll compare the bit rate against the data at DVD Beaver. (I didn't pick up either of Sony's BioS BD-R or the Mill Creek double feature.)

BIOS also has an isolated music and effects track, not found on the US releases.Terasawa wrote: ↑Fri Feb 26, 2021 8:20 pmDo you mean the Mill Creek release?canofhumdingers wrote: ↑Fri Feb 26, 2021 7:17 pmIs there a reason to seek this out over the US double feature release from Sony?

Cool. Thanks for the info. While bonus features are nice I’m not sure I’m a big enough fan of these particular films to go through the added trouble and expense to import and watch a different region BD. Maybe if the Mill Creek release didn’t exist.

Due to episode# 3 being screwy in an over pixelated way, I've ordered a replacement 'Ultraseven' set from Amazon. God willing, it won't give me the same kind of trouble.
