"Mmm..we can go see it another time.."

"No Laffey, today is the day! The launch day, remember!"

"Nimi's right, we should go see it."

Three young girls sat at a table in the early morning, discussing among themselves about a certain event happening later that day. Here in the Azur lane, all of its citizens were shipgirls, created for the purpose of battle. While their purpose was for combat, each had their own thoughts and desires, each with a unique personality that influenced their actions. The port of the Azur Lane bustled with activity, many going out on commissions, some prepping for many different tasks or activities, and others simply having fun. Each of the three girls at the table were different in their own unique way, though they all shared the classification of naval destroyers. One was a white haired, sleepy girl who seemed to be bored out of her mind. Of the three, each was affiliated with a different branch of the Azur lane. Laffey was of the Eagle union, previously known as the United States. She yawned as she tried to rest her head on the table, but was stopped when the girl next to her propped her back up.

"Laffey, now isn't the time." said Nimi, crossing her arms.

"I want to go back to sleep Nimi.." Laffey groggily replied.

Nimi shook her head and stood up. While she had no given name and was addressed by her serial number Z23 for the most part after her conception, her friends eventually gave her a name of her own. Her faction was of the Ironblood, previously known as Germany.

"Nope, we are going right now!" Nimi announced.

"Now? Wasn't it supposed to be in an hour?" questioned the third girl present, Ayanami, who was affiliated with the Sakura Empire, which used to be called Japan.

"We should meet up with Javelin, she's already there." Nimi said.

"You… you raise a good point. Come on Laffey, we should go." nodded Ayanami, tugging on Laffey's arm lightly.

"Fine.." she replied tiredly.

Ayanami and Nimi both started over to the location, with Laffey in tow. Along the way, the three noticed the gathering congregation of shipgirls as they got closer to their destination. Obviously whatever was happening was going to be a big event…

"There she is." Laffey said, pointing over to another girl with purple hair over by a stairway. Said girl noticed and waved over towards the trio.

"Let's go meet up with her." Ayanami said as she jogged over to the purple haired girl, who ran to meet them.

"You're here early! They're just running a few tests on it right now." she said. This was Javelin, a destroyer of the Royal Navy, formerly known as England.

"Nimi insisted we come early to meet up with you." Ayanami said with a slight shrug.

"Oh, you shouldn't have… but since you're here, come with me!" Javelin said cheerfully as she led her friends over to the stairway she was waiting at originally.

The group of four all walked up the flight of stairs into a gigantic hangar with large amounts of machinery hooked up to and stabilizing an enormous mechanical being. Shaped vaguely like a dinosaur, faint red hues emanated from parts of the mech, signaling it wasn't fully shut off at the moment. Giant arms with deadly prong-clawed hands were set in broad shoulders, which were in turn connected to a titanic, mechanical body. What looked like several rectangular fins ran down from the neck all the way to the end of the tail, which ended in a deadly sharp point.

"There it is…" Javelin said as Nimi and Ayanami both looked at the mech with awe and wonder. Even Laffey was awestruck at the sight before them.

“What did they call it again?” asked the Sakura Empire shipgirl without taking her eyes off of the magnificent machine before her. Javelin looked at her friend and answered.

“They call it… Mechagodzilla.”

After a little less than an hour, everything was set for launch. Laffey, Javelin, Nimi, and Ayanami all were outside standing by the docks, waiting for the big arrival of the mechanical beast they saw earlier. Finally, an enormous hatch that had been constructed for this occasion opened up, out of it rising the form of the titanic mecha. Gasps and murmurs of surprise and awe rippled throughout the crowd of shipgirls looking on at the spectacle. Mechagodzilla’s eyes flared to life, glowing a harsh red as the glow spread throughout its entire body. Uncurling itself from its resting position, the sounds of mechanics revving up and locking into place could be heard as Mechagodzilla rose up to its full height and roared a mechanized bellow, sending chills down the spine’s of everyone in range.

“Wow…” commented Nimi as she looked up at the now active Mechagodzilla.

“It’s incredible.” said Ayanami, unable to take her eyes off of it.

Suddenly, without warning a few alarms went off, causing each of the shipgirls to look around. Right as the alarms went off, what looked like a large storm just so happened to be brewing in the very far off distance. As if on cue, Mechagodzilla straightened up, its hands locking into place as it stood ready for whatever might come its way. Oddly enough, its movements seemed more fluid and organic than a few moments ago, not at all like a machine. The four all watched Mechagodzilla's movements until someone tapped Javelin on the arm.

"The Commander would like to see you four." said Belfast, a white-haired light cruiser in a royal maid's outfit.

"He does? Right now?" Javelin asked in return.

"I'm not sure why, but he told me to send for you four in particular." Belfast said with a shrug.

"Let's go see him, then." Nimi said as she started towards where the Commander's office was situated. Laffey yawned and followed suit, with Ayanami and Javelin tagging behind. The latter waved a farewell to the maid, who waved back.

"This all seems like it's happening too fast… do you think something is going on?" The Sakura Empire’s warrior asked Javelin.

"I don't know…the best we can do right now is keep our heads up, right?" she replied.

"I suppose you're right." Ayanami said as she glanced back at Mechagodzilla, who stood ready and active. How and why did the alarms go off right when Mechagodzilla had been activated? What was the deal with the storm just, suddenly appearing out of nowhere? Ayanami couldn't help but feel that this was a prelude to something much bigger than she could wrap her head around..

The four destroyers entered the Commander's office, all standing adjacent to his desk. There was a young man with brown hair and a captain's uniform fit for a Commander of the most powerful naval fleet in the world's history. He motioned for the four destroyers to take a seat. Sitting next to the Commander was his current secretary, a blue-haired battleship named Gascogne.

"You four got here quickly. I figured it was the right idea to send Belfast to get you four." He greeted them.

"Commander, what do you need us four to do for you?" Javelin asked first.

"I would like you four to go do a routine scouting mission, however it's not really…normal, per se."

"Whatever do you mean?" asked Ayanami somewhat worriedly.

"I believe it's linked to our construction of Mechagodzilla. Ever since we found those bones that are now housed within our ultimate weapon, things have been becoming progressively weirder."

"In what way?" Nimi asked thoughtfully.

"Some parts of the water have turned blood red around the port, and that storm that's currently nearby, things like that have only been happening once Mechagodzilla was constructed."

"Mm… Laffey doesn't like the sound of this." The purple-haired girl commented tiredly.

"I do believe we are safe for the time being, especially now that Mechagodzilla has been completed. However, I would like for you four to go check out the area around the storm." the Commander said as he clasped his hands together on his desk.

"Why us four in particular?" asked Nimi.

"Because I trust you four to get the job done. If anything happens out there, I have an alarm device for one of you to press." the Commander said as he placed a small device with a red button on top.

"I'll take it." Ayanami said as she picked it up.

"Now then, off you go." said the Commander as he looked out of his window. "I'll need to put the whole port into high alert. I'm counting on you four."

"We won't let you down, sir!" Javelin said as she got up from her seat to quickly get her rigging attached. The other three destroyers quickly left to their rooms to get their rigging equipped as well, the weaponry that made them living war machines. As the four left, the Commander chuckled a little bit to himself as he turned to face Gascogne.

"Do you think it will work?" he asked.

"There is a probable chance that it will." replied Gascogne in her monotone voice.

"If the blood red water is any indication… an apocalypse may just be upon us." the Commander said as he looked back out the window, a slight smirk lifting at the corners of his mouth as the image of a dinosaurian oni flashed within his mind.

"One of a hopeless future."

***

“I still don’t understand why it's us four..” Nimi said confusedly as she glided atop the surface of the water.

“Mm… Laffey thinks it's because we’re strong. Probably…” Laffey said, albeit a little hesitantly.

“Alright let's… just try to keep our heads up, right?” said Javelin somewhat worriedly.

“Uhm… are you seeing this?” Ayanami said worriedly, looking down at the water.

The other three looked down and were surprised to see that the sea around them had turned blood red. Javelin was rather horrified and disgusted, Nimi was completely shocked, and Laffey frowned, huddling closer to her friends.

“What…what is this??” Javelin exclaimed as she looked around her. Just as the Commander had said, the waters had turned a blood red, with almost no explanation given. But then, the Royal Navy’s destroyer was the first to see what looked like a dark shape beneath the water.

“Uhm… I… do you three see that?” She stammered as the dark shape beneath the water got closer and closer to the four of them.

“Is that…?” questioned Nimi as she peered at the rapidly approaching object.

“There's more…” Laffey said abruptly, as more dark shapes surrounded them.

“What could all of this possibly mean..?” Ayanami said quietly to herself as she and the other three stayed together for security and comfort.

The first dark shape breached the surface, revealing its identity to be that of a gigantic, serpentine monstrosity primarily blue in color, with red fins lining its body along with dull tan-gray spikes. Several more surfaced and swam past the four destroyers, seemingly ignoring them. A Manda swarm was here, heralds to the coming apocalypse. Laffey, Javelin, Nimi, and Ayanami were all dumbfounded at this unexpected spectacle happening all around them. The sky darkened further as it started to drizzle as well, the storm rolling in to cover the sky. The four destroyers looked up in abject terror as the strom flickered and flashed with sparks of lightning, illuminating the form of something within.

The swarm of Mandas continued slithering their way towards the main port of the Azur Lane, prompting the four destroyers to shake off their fear and surprise and jump into action. Ayanami let loose a barrage of 3 torpedoes, each one impacting a single Manda. The serpent died instantly, sinking below the waves with holes punched into its body. Laffey, Javelin, and Nimi took aim and fired with their main guns, filling the red water up more with the blood of several Mandas. Despite their best efforts however, there seemed to be too many to handle.

"I think we should just head back to the port!" shouted Nimi over the sounds of the storm and battle.

"Mm… that's a good idea. Probably." Laffey responded as she narrowly avoided getting rammed into by a Manda.

"I'm pressing the button!" Ayanami said as she took out the device the Commander had given her and pressed her finger down on the small red button.

Back at the port, an alarm dinged on the Commander's desk. Seeing it, he clapped his hands together.

"Perfect, they're here." he said as he tapped the button that spoke into an intercom. "Everyone, prepare for battle."

"Do you want me to participate as well?" Gascogne asked.

"No, you stay here… I have other plans for you." the Commander replied, chuckling slightly. Unbeknownst to Gascogne, the Commander was simply going to send her to the underground bunker. He needed to keep her safe.

The four destroyers weaved around the swarm of sea serpents, doing their best to get back to the dock before the Mandas did, but considering how gigantic they were, it wasn't likely. Thankfully, back at the port the robotic guardian stood at the ready. As the serpents came into view, Mechagodzilla primed itself for the first combat it would experience. As its pronged claws rotated and locked into place, Mechagodzilla stood emotionlessly, primed for a bloodbath.

Without warning, the first Manda erupted out of the water, jaws snapping at the mech. With blinding speed, it clamped its hand around the Manda and flung it back into the sea in a single, fluid motion. More of them surfaced and attacked, but Mechagodzilla swiftly and easily dealt with each one, slamming its fists into their bodies, tearing them apart, and completely decimating them with relative ease. One Manda managed to bite down upon the machine’s arm, only to be met with cold steel on its teeth. Prying the serpent off, Mechagodzilla grabbed another Manda and slammed the two together with a sickening crack.

Laffey, Javelin, Nimi, and Ayanami finally reached the port through the carnage and battle. Many of the shipgirls were helping out Mechagodzilla with obliterating the oncoming swarm of Manda, launching planes, bombarding them with explosive shells, some had even gotten into the water and were launching torpedoes. Things seemed to be going smoothly… until sparks and bolts of lightning cascaded down around the port as the storm finally reached the greater area of the Azur Lane. As most of the Manda floated dead in the water, Mechagodzilla turned its attention up at something, its eyes flickering from red to blue and back to red again. Whatever was causing all of this, seemed to be having some kind of effect on the titanic mech.

Then, it landed.

Flaring its brilliant golden wings out to a span of over 1000 feet, revealing itself as a titanic, golden dragon with triple-jointed legs, two tails that ended in deadly spiked clubs, and three long necks with a head set upon each one. Evil and malice gleamed in the piercing orange eyes of the hydra, before it spread its wings and screeched, the storm around increasing in intensity by tenfold.

King Ghidorah had arrived.

Everyone looking at King Ghidorah was awestruck and abjectly terrified. What in the world was happening? Nothing was even making sense anymore… After a few seconds of complete silence, all hell erupted. Every shipgirl in the vicinity focused their fire on the dragon, but none of their attacks, not even from the strongest battleships, managed to do more than annoy Ghidorah. However, the sheer amount of firepower being thrown at the golden hydra seemed to irritate it to the degree where it leaned down to menace the unfortunate shipgirls nearby.

But in the nick of time, Mechagodzilla sped forwards and grabbed Ghidorah's right neck and flung the entire mass of the golden hydra away, sending it crashing onto its back. Bellowing another mechanized roar, the colossus of steel stomped towards the downed Ghidorah, but the hydra recovered surprisingly quickly and struck like a snake, clamping its mouths onto the machine’s arms and yanking. Mechagodzilla shoved its entire body forwards, causing an imbalance between the two warring behemoths. Ghidorah reared back before snapping forwards again, grabbing its foe’s right arm and bringing down the Mecha onto its side. Unfortunately for the fiend, Mechagodzilla wasn't about to go down that easily. The golden serpent reared back again to snap at Mechagodzilla, but a well aimed kick from the silvery titan sent Ghidorah stumbling back, forcing the hydra to stabilize its body with its gigantic wings.

Down at ground level, most of the shipgirls had stopped trying to fight and were instead worrying about not getting squished underneath the two warring behemoths. Noticing this from his command station, the Commander directly gave an order to Mechagodzilla. Receiving said order, the war machine righted itself and sped forwards, decking Ghidorah in all three of its necks and dragging the golden hydra into the waters of the port. The alien menace roared in fury, thrashing wildly as the storm raging about intensified even more. Mechagodzilla grabbed Ghidorah's left head and smashed it directly into the edge of the dock, only for the other two heads to bite down onto its silvery body and force it off. Mechagodzilla spun around and back-handed its foe’s right head, but Ghidorah's middle head shot out a stream of electricity from its mouth, slightly staggering Mechagodzilla. The menace pressed the advantage, its other two heads recovering and joining the middle head in shooting more and more gravity bolts at Mechagodzilla. The mechanized titan was pushed backwards until it fell over with a resounding boom. Ghidorah spread its gigantic wings, screeching haughtily. But the defender wasn't done just yet.

Mechagodzilla opened its mouth wide, a harsh, blindingly red glow emanating from the depths of its throat. Ghidorah hissed in alarm and moved in quickly to attack, but Mechagodzilla was just barely faster. With a mechanical screech, it vomited out a bright red laser beam which impacted Ghidorah right in the chest. The beast shrieked as it wildly backpedaled, golden light traveling up its three necks as it spat its gravity bolts right back at Mechagodzilla, sparks flying off the mecha's body where Ghidorah's electrical projectiles hit. Mechagodzilla shut off its proton scream and charged headlong at its target, knocking the hydra onto its back, only for Ghidorah to get right back up and strike like three snakes, biting down onto Mechagodzilla's arms and neck area. With a flap of its massive wings, the dragon lifted its foe up into the air and smashed the mech back down onto the dock of the port. Mechagodzilla recovered quickly, its tail blades slicing at Ghidorah's torso, loosening the grip of the golden hydra. Taking its chance, Mechagodzilla double-punched Ghidorah's right and left head before grabbing the middle head with both hands and flipping the entire mass of the draconic beast over its head. As Ghidorah crashed onto the ground, Mechagodzilla got back to its feet and blasted its proton scream once more. The golden hydra just barely managed to right itself and spew its gravity beams right back, the two engaging in a beam lock.

"Aah, woahhh..!" Javelin exclaimed as Mechagodzilla and Ghidorah engaged in their beam lock, stumbling from the air pressure.

"I'm not liking the look of this. If the energy build up gets too much.." commented Nimi worriedly.

"How big of an explosion are we talking about?" Ayanami asked.

"I don't know, but it's sure to be huge!" Nimi said as she looked up at the two.

As it happened, Mechagodzilla seemed to be losing the beam struggle, as it was losing ground and slowly being pushed back. Rearing its head back, the war machine upped its firepower exponentially, pushing right back at Ghidorah's gravity beams. As if on cue, the demon had the same idea in mind, only trying to completely overpower rather than push back. The intensity was too much for the beam lock, and it resulted in a rather massive explosion, sending both Ghidorah and Mechagodzilla flying backwards, the former being thrown further inland while the latter fell into the port’s waters. The quartet of destroyers all shielded themselves as the shockwave from the beam lock explosion rippled over them and everything else in vicinity, waves of heat flaring up around the whole area. Mechagodzilla slowly rose to its feet, but Ghidorah recovered quicker. The hydra flew forth, smashing its talons into the mecha's head and shoulder, nearly toppling the mech onto its back again. But before Ghidorah could do anything else, a titanic Manda erupted out of the water and chomped its fangs down upon Ghidorah's left neck. Taking advantage of the momentary distraction the large sea snake served, Mechagodzilla threw its foe off of itself and charged up another proton scream.

A sudden and strong yank on Mechagodzilla's leg surprised the machine, albeit for a moment until it lost its footing, crashing onto its back. Another particularly large Manda snaked out of the water, biting and snapping. Mechagodzilla rolled over, narrowly avoiding the lunge aimed at its neck. With a harsh mechanical shriek, the silvery mecha shot its arm forwards clamping its pronged fingers onto the creature’s head. The serpent screeched and squirmed wildly, but to no avail as Mechagodzilla chucked it straight at Ghidorah, who had rid itself of its own Manda assailant. The hydra snarled as it spat its gravity bolts right at the Manda, vaporizing it. Mechagodzilla barreled forwards and body slammed Ghidorah in short order before clamping its hand onto the left head and yanking.

The bones and flesh within the neck stretched and broke as Mechagodzilla tore the entire neck off of Ghidorah's body. The other two heads cried out in fury and pain at the loss of the third, and responded in kind, clamping their jaws onto Mechagodzilla's arm and tearing the limb out. Uncaring of the sparks pouring from the wound, Mechagodzilla's throat pulsated with its eerie red light as it vomited its proton scream point blank at Ghidorah, shredding the right head of the unholy dragon. The harbinger of death howled in outrage as it charged up its gravity beam, spitting it at Mechagodzilla. The golden streaks of energy lanced into its target, sending the mechanical titan crashing onto its back on the dock. The golden terror advanced, hellbent on tearing apart its opponent, latching its mouth onto Mechagodzilla's neck and dragging the mechanical titan across the port.

Unfortunately for Ghidorah, its foe had other ideas. Its tail spikes snapped into place and revved up, solidifying into a drill that dug itself into Ghidorah's torso. The hydra screeched in pain as the storm above intensified ten-fold, lightning raining down upon everything in the vicinity. Mechagodzilla's throat flared to life again as its back rockets roared to life again, boosting the silvery titan forwards to grab onto Ghidorah's remaining neck. The dragon thrashed wildly, but the steel colossus kept its hold firm.

By now, Laffey, Javelin, Ayanami, and Nimi had done their best to stick together and not get flattened. The four destroyers reached a spot under some cover from the downpour going on with the raging thunderstorm, both to catch their breath and reflect on the absolute chaos going on around them.

"I'm scared… when is this all going to end!?" said Javelin hopelessly as she huddled close to her friends.

"It'll be okay, Jav…" said Nimi, but her voice trembled as she said those words. She, just like her friends, was scared out of her wits.

"Laffey will be strong for everyone…" commented Laffey quietly, despite her fear of what was going on clearly evident.

However, Ayanami stayed quiet. Something had caught her attention, and whatever it was, it clearly was disturbing her a very great deal.

"Ayanami…? What is it..?" Nimi asked hesitantly as she stood next to Ayanami and looked at her. She didn't respond, only managing to suppress a horrified gulp.

Laying out in the rain next to a broken down pile of rubble was what looked like a dead body. The clothing suddenly seemed all too familiar to Javelin in particular…

"B-Belfast…?" She stammered as she ran out from under the cover and towards the body, kneeling beside it, horrified. True to her suspicions, Belfast lay dead on the ground, her rigging in a rather terrible condition. Javelin was absolutely horrified and covered her mouth in abject fear and anguish. Just a few hours ago, she had talked to Belfast and now… she couldn't bear any of it anymore. What even was going on…? Unable to handle this anymore, Javelin stood up and ran away, sobbing as she did so.

"Javelin! W-wait..!" Nimi said, her voice breaking as she dropped to her knees. How many more shipgirls had been killed in this mess? Nimi buried her face in her hands, not wanting to think of all the possibilities.

Laffey was still trying to wrap her head around the fact that someone she had spoken to just a few hours earlier lay dead in front of her. Everything had gone horribly wrong today… Was this just a nightmare?

Ayanami tore her eyes away from Belfast's corpse and looked at the small device that the Commander had said to press if anything went wrong. Her hand trembled before she threw the device at the ground, breaking it. Falling to her knees, she hugged her arms around herself as she leaned forwards, trying to forget everything that was happening all around her. Contrary to the nickname she had earned, "The Demon", Ayanami felt emotions too, like everyone else. The crashing waves, the booms of thunder, the ungodly howls and roars, all of it was drowned out, replaced by a haze of abject fear and horror at the reality in front of her. The future looked hopeless…

Mechagodzilla tightened its hold on Ghidorah's lone neck, its proton scream ready to erupt out of its maw any moment now. The fiend figured that its time was up… or was it? Ghidorah's mouth curled into a snarling grin of malice as it stared into Mechagodzilla's blazing red opticals. They were one and the same, answering what had drawn its attention to this place from the start.

The cruel creature laughed as it seemingly accepted its demise, and kept on laughing as Mechagodzilla reduced its head to slag. Once the last head had been destroyed, the sentient weapon turned its weapon further down. The body melted and dissolved, Mechagodzilla bellowing in victory once done. The mecha hunched over suddenly, its eyes flickering from red to an eerie yellow. Jankily it rose back to its full height, mechanical grinding noises emanating from within its titanic silvery body, as if it were possessed by some unknown, unseen force. The enormous mech stood still within the rain as what looked like blood dripped from its mouth. Mechagodzilla's body jerked and spasmed as it slowly lumbered out into the port and sank below the blood red waves, swimming away, to where nobody knew. And with that strange final act, the port was silent. The only sounds to be heard were the slow and steady sounds of rain.

The battle was over… for now.

A little while after the destructive battle had occurred, the Port was doing its best to recuperate from the damage done to the surrounding area. The quartet of destroyers had all regrouped and were sitting quietly together just outside the temporary space designated for the shipgirls to gather.

"...Is… Are they …over there?" Nimi said quietly as she pointed to another building, which seemed to have two shipgirls continuously exiting with a stretcher.

"Oh no…" Ayanami said breathlessly as she stood up and ran over to the building, her friends in tow. The four destroyers burst into the building and their already low moods sank even further. The building had been temporarily converted to house the bodies of the fallen shipgirls. Divided by factions, the rows of the deceased stretched up until the area where the injured but still living were kept, being tended to. The Commander himself was present, frowning as he paced between the rows of the injured and the dead. He was flanked by two Sakura empire ships with cat ears, both visibly distressed by the amount of death around them.

"Akashi, I want you to look through the wisdom cube storage and take out as much as is needed, you hear me? Yuubari, you had better get the equipment ready soon." The Commander said sharply and uncharacteristically angrily.

As they both went to carry out the Commander's orders, Javelin couldn't bear to look at what was around her anymore. She left uncharacteristically silently, leaving just Laffey, Nimi, and Ayanami to stew in their own feelings. Laffey slowly approached the Eagle union section and glancingly looked at the row of corpses. Baltimore, Bremerton, Intrepid… she tore her eyes away. She couldn't bear to look at the others. The destroyer focused on the injured Eagle union shipgirls, with Vestal attending to them. Laffey saw her sister ship Benson among the injured and plopped herself down next to her, sighing. If only this was just a nightmare…

Nimi's composure was rapidly deteriorating as she slowly surveyed the injured and the dead. All of the Submarines had survived, but many of the Ironblood were not so fortunate. Many of the unnamed destroyers just like herself were among the casualties, as well as many of the cruisers, carriers and battleships. Prinz Adalbert, Prinz Heinrich, Admiral Hipper, Admiral Graf Spee, Graf Zeppelin, Elbe, Scharnhorst, Tirpitz, the list went on and on. Her psyche was shattered when she saw a specific figure in the row of corpses. Bismarck, the blonde-haired leader of their faction. “She couldn't have died…” Nimi's vision and mind blurred as she stumbled towards the section of the injured shipgirls and nearly collapsed on her way. This couldn't be happening, the indomitable leader of the Ironblood couldn't be dead, it was impossible! Or was it?

Ayanami passed by the small number of casualties of the minor factions, and slowly approached the long row of the Sakura empire bodies. Once again, they were the faction to take the most damage. Always humiliated in some way. Ayanami slowly and methodically counted each body she saw, sitting down. Her emotions were a mess right now. Amagi, Atago, Chikuma, Choukai, Kawakaze, Mikasa, Shoukaku, Suruga, Zuikakau… Ayanami counted at least 30 other corpses of her faction mates. Her mouth trembled slightly as she looked down at the floor before a shaky hand put itself on her shoulder.

"Ayanami?" asked Yukikaze, one of Ayanami's friends and a destroyer known for her extraordinary luck.

"Yes, Yuki..?" replied Ayanami quietly, not taking her eyes off the floor.

"The Commander told me to give this to you.." said Yukikaze as she handed an odd device to her.

Ayanami just nodded as her friend left. Normally Yukikaze would be bubbly, cheery, and proclaiming herself the Great Yukikaze, Nanoda! But what had just happened was weighing down heavily on every ship girl still alive. Ayanami looked closely at the device she now held possession of. It looked strange, as it had a handle and two portions that could split. It was gold and had a surprisingly ornate but old seeming design, not modernized at all. Looking it over, Ayanami's sorrowful emotions were replaced by a genuine curiosity about this strange device. A sudden image of a figure illuminated by light flashed in the destroyer's head, startling her. What was…? A name then popped into her head as she looked back at the device she held as if she had some kind of epiphany.

"U…Ultraman… Tiga…?" Ayanami shook her head as she took in a deep breath. Her head was spinning from everything that had occurred in less than a day. It was as if time and space were dilating and warping to some unknown force out there. She didn't know what the problem was, but she would be ready for it. She would be strong, for all of her fallen comrades…

Far out on a secluded island, Mechagodzilla had dragged itself onto the shore, its jerky movements and erratic behavior getting worse by the minute. The weather around the island and in turn the mecha seemed to be storming intensely, as if to herald the coming of something. The machine convulsed and heaved, its metallic outer shell creaking and breaking in several parts to reveal golden scales. The inner workings of the machine grinded to a stop as it ceased moving and hunched over, the red glow dimming to a fade in all parts of its body except for the eyes, which still shone ominously. The top portion of Mechagodzilla's back and neck ruptured to reveal a blood-soaked head and neck of Ghidorah, the devilish beast screeching into the sky as lightning flashed around it. Licking the blood dripping from its mouth, the head smiled cruelly as wonderful thoughts of death and destruction filled its horrid mind.

King Ghidorah could never be stopped.

The death song of three storms can only be delayed.

It always comes back, to ensure a hopeless future!

Spoiler:
So, did Ghidorah just.. send his ghost to possess Mechagodzilla once he realized he was gonna die? Is that part of this weird anime girl universe I don't know about, or is that something we can actually do?
I can't help but feel like the match itself went faster than it should've. Between Mechagodzilla's launch, the arrival of the Manda swarm and Ghidorah's landing (and the fact that it sounds like both dragons were waiting to strike for a while) it needed more time to be fleshed out. Still, not bad!

A guy who randomly stumbled upon this place one day, invested much too much time into it, and now appears to be stuck here for all eternity..and strangely enough, i do not regret it!

Spoiler:
I figured it was something to do with Ghidorah’s psychic capabilities with his other heads waking it up to what it truly is + all the energy from both MechaG’s power source and that Ghidorah hit him with. Not so much ghost and possession, more of a reawakening of a separate aspect.
Match was good. For the first match of a new author, this is a solid start which sets up plenty of interesting stuff. I would agree with needing to slow down and flesh things out a bit more, especially with how much stuff is being set up and how many elements are present in the match. Something to keep in mind for the future. Still, nice start for GMK and for Animay.

Banner looks great too.

The match was okay overall. Some things felt like they went by a little too fast, and some phrases were used rather repetitively.
Spoiler:
However, King Ghidorah’s resurrection through MechaGodzilla was absolutely badass. That was a very creative “oh sh*t!” moment.

Think the match was a bit of fun~. Azure Lane is a fun if unexpected setting for this but the action was nice and even if it could've been longer in parts I felt it worked well.
Spoiler:
That ending of King Ghidorah basically possessing Mechagodzilla was creative and left a nice ending visual.

And so Animay starts!
Spoiler:
Aside from the critisicms and compliments other people gave already, I will say that I like the worldbuilding. It's relatively short but it gives you a good idea of how the universe works and who these characters are. I also like the buildup of certain future elements, especially since it kinda makes the commander guy more mysterious, like he's hiding a few things. Aside from that, agree with everyone else, fighting was fantastic but a little short, ending scene was awesome and chilling and I kinda wish the Mandas were slightly more involved beyond being basic cannon fodder.
But hey, I hope you take our constructive criticism and use it for the sequel. As a good YouTuber named HoodoHoodlumsRevenge said, "Keep writing, keep improving." Welcome aboard!

Now to wait for my turn
Guy who does stuff, also a KWC/KWCE writer! :D
