Bear's Battlegrounds

Post by Beast Blood »

In the vast expanse of the universe, Odar the All-Maker wandered in search of life.

He had come across many worlds, but several were destroyed and the rest were in no condition to sustain life - his duty was not to resurrect and bring life, but to balance it. He sought to find species to offer his teachings to.

His quest, bearing no fruit so far, made him wonder if there was no life at all beyond the universe he was familiar with. Was it all in vain? Was there truly no life beyond the world of the Beasts and the few worlds beyond it?

The All-Maker's train of thought was abruptly cut off when he found something. There, alone in the endless void, was one world, close enough to its star to hold life. He saw all this little world held, its trees and fish and animals, blue skies and glistening seas. It was perfect.

His cyan eyes glanced over to the snowier regions of this quaint little world. Some of the Beasts from Bjornskar would be ideal to watch over these lands. He knew the Beasts as preservers, though, not destroyers. And they were specifically adapted to live in colder regions. He would need to bring over other creatures to help tip the scales. He first thought of the Dragons, but he also recalled seeing beings from different worlds that would serve well. Some were destructive, others less so. Both were necessary.

The God of Balance held out his hands, encased in golden armor. Bright light glowed within his armored palms, casting a spell to begin populating this world with the creatures Odar's mind sought...

Suddenly, he had awoken. His pure yellow eyes gazed at the beautiful sight around him, yet he wasn't too sure of what he was actually doing here. His viola like-roar echoed throughout the place. Since nobody else seemed to have claimed it, he would call it his domain for now.

Varan's white flesh parted, revealing his silver membranes. He took off, his white skin blending him in with the clouds above. Time to explore..

The ground trembled, tiny stones bounced on the dirt as the earth split open. Vast geysers of volcanic steam spewed from the ground, filling the air with noxious gases. Now, the fractured earth shifted and rose as something pushed it's way up from under the ground.

Baronga emerged from the wound in the ground, screeching aloud with spittle spraying from his mouth. His bulky body, coated in dirt and dust, could now be seen in it's entirety. The reptillian beast shook itself off, launching rocks and dust in all directions as he got his bearings. He felt pain where his right eye had once been, having been ripped from it's socket by his hated nemesis, Gargolis. The pain was but a phantom one, as the missing eye had long since healed up. Baronga would forever bare the scar of this battle, his right eye permanently closed with three large scars running down his face. The creature took in a breath of air: the air tasted bittersweet after being condemned to the bowels of the earth after his last battle. Baronga scanned his surroundings with his remaining eye, his depth perception not being as good as it used to be. The hulking brute went on the move, not wanting to squander his freedom staying in one spot.

Sensing another predator in the area, Varan dived down, walking on his two legs. He began to sniff out Baronga, making sure that the monster was in his grasp.

Rather far away, but he could still find him. the albino monster went after this new being.

Baronga continued his trek through the barren woodlands, knocking over trees with little regard for the damage he was causing. The hulking brute was blissfully unaware of the danger that was coming his way, instead focusing on terrorizing the smaller animals that fled from his presence. Soon, a new challenger would arrive to test his might.

Varan landed down next to Baronga. He decided that simply attacking the monster would be rather dumb and reckless, and decided to be more cautious with the creature. He growled softly to catch his attention, not really knowing how he was exactly gonna react, but it was worth a shot.

Baronga immediately spun around to face the creature, screeching at Varan. Baronga shifted his stance to an aggressive and combative one before charging at the new monster with his head lowered and his horns pointed forward. Baronga rammed into Varan with enough force to topple the bigger creature and send him tumbling to the ground.

Fine! If it was a fight this freak wanted, a fight it shall now get! Varan fired off his sonic ray, hurdling Baronga back with enough force to ram him straight into a hill. He flew up into the sky, preparing to dive bomb him.

Hook Jaw swam through the deep ocean water, his senses alert for any sign of prey. Thanks to his resent increase in size, the great shark's appetite had been magnified to compensate for the increased biological activity in his body. All around he detected the electrical signals of living creatures, but none large enough to be worth the effort of hunting. Nor could he detect the presence of that most hated of creatures. Man.

Sharks are not, by nature, creatures that hold a grudge, nor are they in general the mindless killers Jaws and Shark Week would have the masses believe. They are just animels trying to survive as any other, and like any predator a human may stumble across, sometimes things turn ugly. Yet even then as far as most sharks are concerned, yes even the feared great whites, humans are not really ideal food. To much bone and not enough meat. It's just that they are unsure and test bite the strange creature, which unfortunately can be fatal, of the shark is truly very hungry, in which case anything will do.

Hook Jaw however was very much the exception to the rule. Even befor he gained his name sake, he truly was savage beast who killed without mercy. He was made even worse on the day that men had first tried to hunt him. On the day he became Hook Jaw, this shark developed a true hate and taste for humans. A true rogue maneater.

Suddenly Hook Jaw was bombarded with new information. He began to sense strong electrical signals produced by titanic muscles and powerful vibrations in the water though is lateral line. His intreast peaked and his hunger growing, the giant shark turned in direction of the creature and sped off in its direction

Baronga's sturdy body held strong as he plowed through the side of the hill, launching debris into the air. His head pounded and his ears rang from the sonic attack. The reptile weakly got back onto his feet and shook the daze off in time to witness Varan taking off. This irritated Baronga, as Gargolis could fly too. He hated Gargolis. So now, Baronga hated Varan too. This time, there wouldn't be a volcano to break up the battle. Baronga licked the inside of his mouth, savoring the idea of biting Varan's head off; something he should have done to Gargolis instead of going for his arm.

Baronga trotted out of the way of Varan's dive-bomb, positioning himself behind the flying creature. Baronga wrapped his arms around Varan's tail and pulled with all his strength while slowly turning his body clockwise. Baronga began to build up momentum to lift Varan off the ground as he swing the bigger creature around. Finally Baronga let go of Varan, the latter's tail slipping free from his arms and launching him several hundred meters away and into an outcropping of large trees. Baronga found the sight amusing, and he hoped that hurt. Baronga began to slowly approach Varan, grinding his sickle claws together to sharpen them. Baronga had quickly learned that a head-on assault against this particular foe resulted in the attack that made Baronga's head hurt. The huge reptile opted not to attack immediately, and instead waited to see what his opponent did.

Varan watched as Baronga simply waited for the next move, wondering what his next attack was gonna be for sure. A good strategy at first, but something he would sure regret soon.

He took off on his gliders, and ran past Baronga, his spikes meeting his arm. The poison was already in his body. Certainly not enough to kill him, but it would weaken him for sure. All he needed to do was wait till it took full effect, and then finish the job!

In the empty sweeping landscapes of a great forest, long forlorn by whatever life inhabited this world, an enormous swell of earth visibly bulged forth, causing mudslides and tremors to rock the woodlands. The earth trembled with its movements, as a massive set of ironclad claws emerged and raked themselves across the ground. Following suit, an enormous set of nostrils, surrounded by several finger-like phalanges, emerged, along with a head wrapped in layers of chitinous metallic armor.

Soon enough, the towering form of an Ironfur emerged from the earth, sniffing around in an attempt to figure out its surroundings. It was very strange; one minute, it had been resting in its den for the horrid North American winter, and the next, it had been summoned to this familiar, yet alien, world. The creature meandered about, hoping to get its bearings, before a familiar scent entered its nostrils: water.

Hungry and thirsty from its months-long nap, the Ironfur lumbered closer to the massive expanse of water, before it lowered town to have a drink...

Baronga flinched from the sharp spines brushing against his thick skin. Though they had managed to poke some minor holes to inject their venom, it was far less than Varan had thought. As Varan flew past Baronga, the reptile raised both arms and jammed his claws into Varan's back like hooks and snaring him.

Baronga's muscles bulged as he used his immense strength to stop Varan's momentum completely. Baronga shifted his body to the right and tossed Varan away into the leveled hillside he was sent flying into earlier. As Varan landed in the remains of the hill, Baronga dug at the ground with his foot like a bull, leaning forward and bringing his pointed horns to bare.

Without further warning, the behemoth charged at Varan, starting off slow at first but quickly gaining speed and momentum. If Varan did not react quickly, Baronga will have built up enough momentum to impale Varan with his horns.

Seeing the massive horns plasterd on Baronga's heads that could easily kill him, Varan leapt out of harms way. He went back into the fight, scratching Baronga by the side and headbutting his skull with extreme force, leaving the half-blind monster dazed. With swift movement, he whipped him away with his tail, sending him to the ground. Baronga's collision with the Earth rattled the dust so hard, it actually manage to create a mini-earthquake under them!

He had this beast on the ropes now, but knowing how tenacious he was, it wouldn't stay that way if he didn't act fast. He ran in for the kill.

Baronga got back up, his single eye slowly drifting back into focus as he began to feel some pangs of pain throughout his body. He snorted, releasing dust and hot air from his nostrils as he met Varan's charge with his own. As he ran, Baronga opened his mouth slowly as to get the muscles working. Once he was within range, Baronga buried his claws into Varan's flesh to hold him in place. Finally, Baronga leaned in and allowed his jaw muscles to snap back together, delivering a crushing bite to Varan's shoulder/neck area. The force, combined with his sharp teeth and bladed lower jaw would inflict grievous injuries on the reptile. Baronga would shake his head side to side like a dog with a chewtoy to make sure he was causing Varan as much pain as possible. Baronga would then use his immense strength to slam Varan to the ground with a swing of his neck while simultaneously releasing his grip.

Baronga's face and jaws were soaked in Varan's blood when he let go. Baronga let out a thundering bellow, spittle and strands of blood-mixed saliva dangled from his teeth and jaws as he did so. Baronga brought his sickle-like claws to bare as he cautiously stomped towards Varan.

Groaning in pain, Varan looked up and used what strength he had in order to trip Baronga with his hands, the red beast falling down. Roaring at him in a very taunting manner, he began to crawl back into the woods, seemingly retreating.

Or was he?

If Baronga was so bloodthirsty, so willing to kill his enemy, that the very fact that his enemy was leaving the fight before it was over would be sure to enrage him! Bellowing at him again, he made sure the one eyed beast still had his attention squarely on him.

Baronga was familiar with these cowardly tactics; they were a favorite of Gargolis. Varan and Gargolis had so much in common that it was making Baronga despise Varan more and more. Even though experience told him it was likely a trap, Baronga's hatred towards this pest compelled him to pursue this coward into the woods by following the trail of blood that Varan left behind. This would make tracking the fleeing monster easier. Baronga trotted after Varan, bloody saliva dripping from his salivating maw as he went.

The huge reptile made sure to keep his guard up in the case of an ambush, as his battles with Gargolis had taught him well about how cowards fight. Baronga began to gradually slow his advance when he reached a clearing in the forest, a grassy plane filled with flowers and tall grass. This was the perfect spot for an ambush, he could feel it. Baronga arched his back and scanned the surrounding area for more blood from his injured enemy. His scent was strong here...

Unbeknownst to Baronga, Varan was right below him. The triphibian had retreated into the waters, into a lake that eventually slimmered down into the river into the ocean. As the beast frantically searched for him, Varan raised himself up just enough so his spikes could pierce the water ever so slightly.

Baronga didn't notice. Good.

As the beast edged toward the lake, his hands neared the edge. and just when they got too close..

SPLASH!

Varan bit down on Baronga's hand, and he cried out in pain! Using his arms, he pulled the half blind monster into the sea with him, tossing him straight down to the bottom. As Baronga crashed down, Varan landed right next to him. This was great! As long as their was no interference, he could finish this fight with ease!

Though he knew such things were to be expected from the rowdy creatures he had brought over, the All-Maker was surprised with just how brief of a moment it took before these creatures began to fight among themselves. He hoped the Beasts he had called forth would be enough to contain their destruction should things get out of hand.

---

The Ironfur's thick neck dipped downwards as it brought water to its maw with ample laps of its broad pink tongue. The frigid water pooled in its toothy maw, trapped behind the chitinous fangs of the beast. But a shudder of wind rippling the glacial river's sparkling water drew its attention away from its refreshment and towards the skies reigning over the coniferous treetops. In the chilly stream, the Ironfur could see the warbled reflection of a massive avian. A shadow, like that of a vast cloud but far faster, passed over it, momentarily dulling the Ironfur's metallic sheen. Looking up, the shelled beast beheld the sight of the culprit behind the waves of wind.

With no troubled water to warp its image, the Ironfur could detail this newcomer in full. It was much like a golden eagle, though its feathered body was bulky and strong-limbed, resembling a mix between a kodiak bear and a bird of prey. The feathered thing glanced down to its shelled self for a moment as it glided above, turning in the air before folding its mighty wings and kicking its taloned feet forward. With a thunderous boom, the massive avian landed on top of a rocky mountain nearby, halting its considerable momentum easily with its muscular legs. Thousands of tons of rock were displaced, rolling down the cliffside in a rocky avalanche. The bird itself settled on its haunches and wings folded over its brawny shoulders as it preened its feathers for a few moments.

It was here to observe.
