I don’t get why they decided to make JJ resemble your typical modern anime mech.

...It's literally the exact opposite. His look is incredibly retro.

You have not watched a single modern Mecha anime, haven’t you?

I have watched some modern Gundam shows and I am considering Gurren Lagan.

Such a design would've worked back in the 70's, but this is the 2020's.

But we were talking about how it looks like a "typical modern mech"... and now you're agreeing with me that it doesn't? Not to mention that the fact that the design is unorthodox in this day and age is where the appeal comes from.

If you don't like like SP JJ that's fine, but you keep coming up with nonsense to justify it.

I find Jet Jaguar's first stage looking like he was built in a garage very in-spirit for the character.

SP JJ's design would've worked if this was still the Showa era, which has passed.

I personally like the look. Feels very much like a bot somebody with limited funds & material would've made which adds a lot of charm to the character. Probably the most endearing entity of SP

I hope they create a whole new JJ model for season 2. As a response to Jermobooka’s post, his SP look would’ve been passable in the Showa era, but now it’s the 2020’s and times change.

Perhaps you could clarify what you mean, because it reads as if you're saying that (at least in this case) media must reflect the trends and styles of the era it was made.

I don't really like or dislike the SP Jet Jaguar, but I think I see what they were going for: kitschy both as an homage to the original and to represent the DIY nature of this version in particular.

While the head and chest are modern mech, the arms and legs look like something that was quickly thrown together. This fits the origin of the robot and has a charm to it.

^Style over substance if you ask me. It also doesn’t help that they gave JJ a little girl voice.

Ok, I will say it. I hated this design at first, then saw some meme-like charm to his overly-long and crane-like arms, then the portrayal in the show and its gradual evolution won me over, until I was tearing up in his final battle. The idea of the Anguirus spear was a cool touch. I also began to appreciate the angular and robotic design this version took on. Really nice take on the character imo, and in a way I never would have expected with the AI integration and the fight against Godzilla Ultima.

Also, I will never not chuckle at Jet Jaguar PP said in a Japanese woman's voice. My sense of humor is wack :JetJaguar:
“You gave me strength. So did the others. No life is worthless. I believe you now."
