Should Genndy Tartakovsky do a Godzilla series?
Hey there people it’s me here once again. I would like to discuss something with those of you who are fans of (or at least aware of) famed animator Genndy Tartakovsky, who gave us all Dexter’s Laboratory, Samurai Jack, the new show Primal and the list goes on. For those of you who don't know, it was his work on Samurai Jack that caught the attention of Lucasfilm to recruit him to work on the 2003 Clone Wars anthology mini-series and based on how well that was recieved, that gives me an idea that’s going through my head for some while now.
Judging him on both his works on both Symbionic Titan and Primal, do any of you think he just might be able to handle an animated Godzilla series? If so, what do you think such a project could turn out? Personally, I think he could do wonders for the franchise.
Feel free to elaborate. I look forward to what you have to say in this matter.

Re: Should Genndy Tartakovsky do a Godzilla series?
Genndy would be a great choice to make either a Monsterverse TV show with Legendary pictures, and blessing from Toho, or doing a reimagine of Toho Kaiju and Mythos for a western audience.
While it is obvious the Showa era films have influenced his works, I haven't read any interviews where Genndy has talked about Godzilla and other Toho films. It would be interesting what his take on doing a show would be.

I would love it if he did.
Primal is my current favorite show on TV, and if he can bring some of that to Godzilla...man that's be awesome!

I imagine a Godzilla show done by him taking place in its own continuity. Also, I recall someone suggesting such a series be brutal and violent like Primal, but since this a brand like Godzilla we're talking about, I'd say he will have to tone it down and have it air on CN instead of Adult Swim.szmigiel wrote:Genndy would be a great choice to make either a Monsterverse TV show with Legendary pictures, and blessing from Toho, or doing a reimagine of Toho Kaiju and Mythos for a western audience.

I can see it now, an HBOMax Monsterverse Tartakovsky show with the POV centered around the monsters on Monster/Skull Island.

I don't think would be up to him, it would be more what the license owners (Toho/Legendary Pictures/Cartoon Network) would allow him to do. While I think it would be great if Toho agrees to license all their kaiju, mecha, and mythos to Genndy/Cartoon Network, and said do what you want. I just don't think that will ever happen. There would always be limitations in place on a project like this.LegendZilla wrote:I imagine a Godzilla show done by him taking place in its own continuity. Toho is no where near as reclused as they once were, I doubt they'd refuse certain licenses of characters (except Bagan) in this day and age, especially for a cartoon.
Like TOHO themselves said, it's time for a Global Expansion of Godzilla.

Will it happen? Doubt it. Do I want it to happen? YES. This is one of my dream Godzilla ideas. A movie/show animated in traditional 2D with Tartakovsky helming the project. Seeing brutal Kaiju fights with that kind of animation would be a dream come true.
Reignited... and hopefully less weird this time around.

Re: Should Genndy Tartakovsky do a Godzilla series?
While I like his artwork and series he has produced/made, I think a lot of it is far too violent and really wouldn't meld well with Godzilla's style. Of course, I would like to be proved wrong, and would not mind seeing a series, or other creative interpretations of Godzilla.
I always wished they'd make an animated series, or film based on some of the better Godzilla comics, like Godzilla the Half Century War, or an anthology series based on Godzilla in Hell and Rage Across Time.

Re: Should Genndy Tartakovsky do a Godzilla series?
I feel like it'd depend on what was being made. Something in the veign of the Showa Mechagodzilla films, definitely would work. A more GMK style production, however, probably not.LSD Jellyfish wrote:While I like his artwork and series he has produced/made, I think a lot of it is far too violent and really wouldn't meld well with Godzilla's style

Oh yeah.
I've wanted that since those came out hahaha.

I would absolutely love to see this happen. It'd probably never happen, unfortunately.
My most wanted fight ever is Discord vs Bobobo-bo bo-bobo.
Godzilla has a regen like Wolverine, a skin like Luke Cage, a hero aura like Captain America, a strength like Hulk, an unstoppability like Juggernaut, an immortality like Deadpool.
There's a 'God' in Godzilla for a reason...

Re: Should Genndy Tartakovsky do a Godzilla series?
I’m always torn with things like this. On one hand A truly great Godzilla animated work has been absent from the series (yes even acknowledging gts), and his style would definitely make it worthwhile and unique. On the other hand I really don’t like limiting super creative individuals to already existing ip. Let the guy create what he wants.

Uhh... no.
We don't need edgy Godzilla gore porn. His stuff is also all style and no substance if The Clone Wars 2003 is anything to go by. We'd be looking at a cross between Final Wars and Mortal Kombat.
His art style and character designs are really ugly and unappealing too.

Honestly, i love Tartakovsky's work, but yeah i don't want a Godzilla film to be Primal levels of gorey. He's gonna have to tone that part down. I won't mind the Primal artstyle being used though, i think it's amazing.

No one "should" do anything. Silly question.
Now, would I as a fan like to see this? Absolutely.
Will it happen? Not a chance.

I unapologetically, wholeheartedly, and without a doubt hate Godzilla vs Kong.
