I honestly don't consider Primal to be edgy. Does it have intense creature violence? You better believe it, but it's balanced out with with some rather sweet and sad moments.Kaiju-King42 wrote:

We don't need edgy Godzilla gore porn. His stuff is also all style and no substance if The Clone Wars 2003 is anything to go by. We'd be looking at a cross between Final Wars and Mortal Kombat.
His art style and character designs are really ugly and unappealing too.

I'd like to see a Tartatovsky take on some of the older films. In particular, ToMG.

It would be a great combination!
Still; more hopeful he gets his Popeye adaptation off the ground. Big fan of the character, and I think Genndy is the guy to bring the character back into modern pop culture.

He also did the original series of The Powerpuff Girls, didn't he?
I always liked that one. Given the chance, I guess he could do good with Godzilla and company, too.

Re: Should Genndy Tartakovsky do a Godzilla series?
He likes to do visual story telling, if you watched an episode of Samurai Jack you'll know what I'm talking about, there are episodes where they go a long time without talking and just let the action do all the talking. I can see him doing that with kaiju fights. Though I would hope there is a strong continuation between episodes like you would see from an adult show, like an episode setting things up ends with a cliffhanger with the monsters showing up to do whatever, then the next episode continues from there and maybe the third part is the aftermath of said devastation. Don't make it like a monster of the week thing where the cities are instantly rebuilt the next episode. Tokyo is still wrecked from the last arc? Have the next one in Osaka. Japan is still cleaning up Spacegodzilla's crystals from the last season's final? Move the next season to America.

He would do an excellent job.
Do people here ONLY know him from Primal? All of this pearl-clutching about violence is surprising. He did Dexter's Lab, Samurai Jack, Clone Wars, Sym-bionic Titan....AND the Hotel Transylvania movies. It isn't like he is some weird edgy gore-hound.
He does a great job at visual storytelling, and knows how to craft action sequences that can range from extremely flashy, beautiful and stylistic as well as extremely tense and visceral.
He excels with the focus and use of visuals, sound design, music, and action....it would be nearly impossible for him to do a bad job with a Godzilla series or film....CGI or 2D.
Now watch him get signed on for a Gamera project

Dude is an absolute master with telling thought-provoking stories through 0 dialogue. Let alone when there's actual dialog, he always kills it.
Let's get a Monsterverse: The Series.

I know him for these and I think he did Powerpuff Girls. He did Dexter's Lab, Samurai Jack.
Heck he might be one of those really talented artist who can blend 2D and 3D together well enough to not be distracting.it would be nearly impossible for him to do a bad job with a Godzilla series or film....CGI or 2D.
Now that's a gory cartoon I'd be up for.Now watch him get signed on for a Gamera project

Star Wars and Samurai Jack had robots as enemies. It was a compromise, as my fanboy friends have informed me – given his way he's definitely a gore hound.Chrispy_G wrote:He would do an excellent job.

That feels like a terrible and nonsensical compromise given that these two things have almost nothing in common.Kaiju-King42 wrote:

Robots as enemies allow him to get away with "gore" in a family friendly, PG fashion.tyrantgoji wrote:That feels like a terrible and nonsensical compromise given that these two things have almost nothing in common.Kaiju-King42 wrote:

As soon as those restraints are off of him, you get the R-Rated Primal and the Adult Swim Samurai Jack.

I don't know why people are worried about the violence and gore - Godzilla has had some of it before, and could stand to have more of it again.
I unapologetically, wholeheartedly, and without a doubt hate Godzilla vs Kong.

Gore's fine. excessive gore is kinda pushing it. It works for Primal, but i don't think it'll work for Godzilla.Vakanai wrote:I don't know why people are worried about the violence and gore - Godzilla has had some of it before, and could stand to have more of it again.

Re: Should Genndy Tartakovsky do a Godzilla series?
Why not? It's just one project out of so many shows, movies, comics, games, etc. What's the harm in one project having excessive gore? Not like there won't be more PG and PG13 projects afterwards. It could and would work for Godzilla. You or I might not enjoy that version, or we might, but there's so many versions we do like that one version not to our tastes isn't a big deal. And there will be fans if it.tyrantgoji wrote:Gore's fine. excessive gore is kinda pushing it. I think Godzilla works from G rated puppet shows to hard R Rated films and everything between.

Re: Should Genndy Tartakovsky do a Godzilla series?
Primal is on a level of violence much higher than the final season of Samurai Jack. All you had in season 5 of Samurai Jack was a good amount of red blood-shed. But he still incorporated a lot of robots and creatures where slime and wires and gears were the substitute for the violence.Kaiju-King42 wrote:Robots as enemies allow him to get away with "gore" in a family friendly, PG fashion.tyrantgoji wrote:That feels like a terrible and nonsensical compromise given that these two things have almost nothing in common.Kaiju-King42 wrote:

I have serious doubts that he was secretly wanting Dexter's Lab or Hotel Transylvania to be gory and was 'forced' to keep them tame. I seriously doubt he was fighting every step of the way to make Clone Wars a gorefest. He leaned into the level of the material. He doesn't sanitize everything and he doesn't try to gore up everything.
He's a classic animation fan. He loves Popeye. He simple KNOWS what he wants for each series and he makes his material to that level.
He knows how to do family stuff like Dexter's Lab and Hotel Transylvania. He knows how to compromise on early seasons of Samurai Jack, and even when given free reign, he said he didn't even want the final season of Samurai Jack to go above a 'teenage' level in the violence....so that dads could still watch it with their sons(something like that, I'm paraphrasing)
And when he WANTS to go for something totally gnarly and metal like with Primal....he goes as hard as he feels he needs to. The brutality is part of the cinematic language of Primal.
Just as Guillermo Del Toro works perfectly in the PG-13 world with Hellboy and Pacific Rim, he also knows when the opportunity is right to go heavier like with Blade II.
So.....there is nothing to freak out and say "OMG we don't need some grotesque Godzilla series"....which, even IF the violence were on a level of Primal....that wouldn't be a terrible choice. I seriously doubt he would go in that realm.
He is a fan of the genre as stuff like Sym-Bionic titan would show. During a commentary for Samurai Jack he alluded to wanting a musical sound in one episode similar to a classic Godzilla theme.
The original finale for Dexter's Lab...HIS final episode on board before moving to Samurai Jack....was a HUGE tribute to Japanese giant monster movies. Dexter went to Japan, woke up a Godzilla-esque giant monster, and then there was an Avengers-style crossover of every character from the show to come together and fight to destroy it. Also had very obvious superhero and Voltron/Power Rangers emulations as well.
1. He is a fan of all of the things you would WANT someone helming this genre to be a fan of
2. He's incredibly talented, knows visual storytelling, knows design, animation, movement, action, and comedy.
3. He's shown an incredible range to handle everything from CG family comedies to absolutely hardcore dialogue free 2D animation and everything in between. He is incredibly versatile and as FAR from "one-note" as you can find.
He would be a home-run for anything Godzilla or Gamera related.
