Sadly, he never got the chance to do it since the trains finally executed their 62 year-long plan of revenge.

Also, I noticed that some of the original concept art pieces for Godzilla’s first form did look very whale-like in appearance. There was definitely a lot of wacky, cool concepts flying around at the time.
Yeah if he had evolved into a Godziplane, the trains would've never stood a chance

I believe this is unused concept art right? Wacky and cool indeed!

I'm..... very glad that flying Godzilla didn't ACTUALLY fly in the final film although I love the scene where they are worried about him adapting to have that power.
Yeah I agree. I just prefer it as that, having them worried about him adapting to fly, not Shin Godzilla actually flying.

Well, Shin himself may not fly, some of his little DEMON-SPAWN might...

that being said, while the art is cool and all it's still fanart
literally none of that is in the artbook

I mean I stil think this is the KINO 'flying shin'

I would prefer if some of his spawn had the ability to fly, that would be better imo.

I think that's essentially the closest thing we'll ever get to a Shin Godzilla 2 to be honest...
I think I'm pretty okay with that, even if Shin is my favourite Godzilla film of all time.

Same, though I'd say SP is prety close to a Shin 2 or a pseudo-sequel.

I wonder: if any one of these concept designs were officially finalized as the design to go with for the film, would Anno and Higuchi have still gone motion-capture CGI, or would they instead have taken the classic tokusatsu ‘Man in Suit’ technique?

I know I may have said this somewhere before, but it won't hurt anybody if I said it again. I perfectly understand that this movie was both critically and financially successful. I also understand that most of you really like this movie. My point is that despite all that, it should NOT have to dictate everything Godzilla-related going forward in the foreseeable future.

I agree wholeheartedly. Shin was a special film. It's very different take on Godzilla, and deals with it's subject matter brilliantly. It would cheapen Shin to copy-paste aspects of it to other Godzilla stuff just to cash in. I'm very excited for Singular Point but when I found out that
Spoiler:
some of the kaiju were basically growing forms of Godzilla
I was kinda bummed out, because that feels like ground that's already been tread. In that case I'll have to wait and see the show to decide for real though.

Nope! Just fanart of what the possible flying Shin would look like. (artist) Gives off a strong concept art vibe due to the style, though, looks like it was scanned right out of a page. Fooled me for the longest time.

I mean, I don't think it has? Yes, Toho has gone weird and different experimenting since, but in different ways. The anime trilogy went it's own way, SP looks like it's different in it's own way, the new ride has a more traditional Godzilla, Godziban and Chibi Godzilla are definitely different from Shin, and other that there hasn't been much else. A commercial featuring a replica of the 1954 suit, a cameo/guest spot in some train mecha movie with a new Snow Godzilla, and for Shin there was the vs NGE ride and like some kind of new museum video and zipline ride. So while I would say Shin is not going away any time soon, it's far from dictating all recent Japanese Godzilla content even now never mind the future.
I unapologetically, wholeheartedly, and without a doubt hate Godzilla vs Kong.

On Godzilla evolving
Spoiler:
Self evolution in Singular Point is not just Godzilla though. It's pretty much hinted that all the monsters might be capable of it. Noticeably in case of the Rodans.
Hell even the MonsterVerse Godzilla is evolving to a degree.

I recently saw some tests of Shin running around, and slithering on his tail.

They were... kinda freaky. I wonder how that would have changed things.

Oh so he kind of jumped up and used his tail to hold him up for a bit of a spinny thing. Yeah, I can see why it didn't make the cut, but it was kind of cool to see.

The tail slither is hilarious, and I love how the video shifts tonally with music. However, like everyone else, I get why it wasn't used. It's certainly interesting though. I like how the tail plays big part of Shin, but got severely axed and cut. Ironically though, a lot of people say that Shin is too slow; well now we know he can be a fast boy too.
