Samurai Rebellion (1967)

1967 chanabra directed by Masaki Kobayashi (Harakiri, Kwaidan), and one of the absolute finest samurai films ever put to screen (Surpasses anything Kurosawa made, IMO). Much more of a family drama than some epic the title suggests, it's certainly a slow burn, but it only makes the extended climax all the more thrilling. I don't really want to give much else away - just see it if you haven't.

I saw this a few years back. And yes, it was a really good movie. You really feel bad for both the young couple (especially the woman who's treated like an object) and the dad, because he wants his son to have the marriage he never got.
