Re: Godzilla (1954) in Color
The only colorized version of Godzilla I know is Cozzilla. However, color did exist back during the 50's. The movie was made in Black and White and the first real color monster movie from Toho was Rodan.

When the film came out, some countries, especially the United States and Latin America, thought Godzilla was green.

What was the point of typing that in this thread? It's irrelevant.Lord Gappa wrote:When the film came out, some countries, especially the United States and Latin America, thought Godzilla was green.
Anyway, I've never heard of a colorized version of Gojira except for Cozzilla. I don't have much of a desire to see that particular movie in color anyways. The B&W adds to the dark atmosphere of the film for me.

Well i thought since we're talking about Gojira in color, i'd like to say that in some countries Godzilla in the film was thought to be green.HeiseiGodzilla117 wrote:What was the point of typing that in this thread? Re: Godzilla (1954) in Color
I believe the green effect was from Cozzilla. I believe Godzilla in that film looked green. Anyway, I think Gojira deserved to be in black and White but nothing after that. I'm talking about you Godzilla Raids Again!

You can focus on it, and try to force it, but the more you do, the more you seem to push it away. But if you're patient, and you hold still, then maybe... Just maybe... It will come to you."

Re: Godzilla (1954) in Color
No, Cozzilla was released in 1977 I believe. People in America saw Godzilla: KOTM long before that. The misconception came from movie posters depicting Godzilla as a green, fire-breathing dinosaur. And that was in 1956, nearly 20 years before Cozzilla. It was just an assumption made by the Americans who made the posters.Lord Gappa wrote:That explains that.Grayshot954 wrote:I believe the green effect was from Cozzilla. Watched the opening and it's more than a little unsettling.
Check out the PG version of my short film, "Destroy All Sisters".

Re: Cozzilla
Well, yeah. It reminds me of watching the Spike Lee doc, "When The Levees Broke". Tragedy on film is one thing. There's powerful filmmaking where the emotion is so real that the fictional moments create this kind of surreal impact on the viewer but watching the real life horror is tough because it's no longer "escapism". It's a very tough line because it's no longer fictional anymore.

Gojira 1954 in color?
This has probably been asked before, but I just came across this.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRVJWb_F ... re=related
I thought that they just colored over the 1954 scenes for the teaser, but some of the comments say that the original movie was actually filmed in color and made black and white for effect. Sounds like bull to me, since it would have cost more to use color film back then and they didn't have much of a budget...
Is there any truth to this, and more importantly, is there a colored copy of this film anywhere?

There's Cozzilla, the Italian one that was poorly colored.Black Lion wrote:This has probably been asked before, but I just came across this.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRVJWb_F ... re=related

Gojira was filmed in B&W. There aren't any color pictures, let alone film. It was colorized for this trailer.

That's what I thought. That gets me thinking about starting a project to color the film... not that it NEEDS color, but it would just be something neat to see.Mr. X wrote:There's Cozzilla, the Italian one that was poorly colored.Black Lion wrote:This has probably been asked before, but I just came across this.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRVJWb_F ... re=related

Re: Gojira 1954 in color?
I thought COZZILLA was actually very innovative. How many colorized movies can you name before 1977, besides very early, stencil-colored fare like THE GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY and A TRIP TO THE MOON?
I've created my own process to colorizing movies. It's quite laborious, but I managed to get a few shots from GIANT MONSTER GAMERA colored, which was pretty nifty.

Yeah, it wasn't that bad. I've only seen a couple pictures, so I guess I don't have room to judge...Tamura wrote:I thought COZZILLA was actually very innovative. Cozzilla actually looks pretty horrible by any standards.... they just threw a rainbow stripe over the whole thing. Nothing is even close to being a correct color.
It seems that Toho colorized parts of the 54 film for quite a few Heisei trailers, I just found one from GvD

Still needs a little work...
Jesus Christ that's awesome! Looks like it was filmed in color! Great Work!

^ Thank you! I just need to find a way to color small details, like eyes and whatnot.

Re: Gojira 1954 in color?
for a "colorized" version, Cozzilla is pretty bizarre. It throws in a whole bunch of stock footage from alot of other sources and the color changes (it depends on the scene) and for what it is, Cozzilla is pretty entertaining in a WTF way.
All Movie snobs can just f off IMO

Re: Gojira 1954 in color?
Cozzi should do COZZILLA RAIDS AGAIN as a sequel to COZZILLA, and if it's successful, create KING KONG VS. COZZILLA, featuring '70s-'80s Italian progressive rock music and loads of mondo film stock footage inserted into the Faro Island expedition sequence. If he won't complete this undertaking, I will.
