Re: Neon Genesis Evangelion
I will forever be that guy who prefers the Netflix dub. All the female characters in the ADV dub sounded like they hailed from Missouri.

Re: Neon Genesis Evangelion
I haven't seen all of the dub but I can say without a doubt I prefer Casey Mongillo's Shinji. Spike Spencer is iconic but they nail "fucked up teen" better then Spike who sounds more like a generic guy.Spirit Ghidorah 2010 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 08, 2021 3:07 pm I will forever be that guy who prefers the Netflix dub. Me too. Both dubs sound really bad compared to the original voices.

Ohhh man, I can't wait for that Blu-ray set.
All four Rebuild films just hit Amazon Prime. I'm watching the first one now.

Re: Neon Genesis Evangelion
1.11 was...kinda pointless? It hit most of the major beats from the first five episodes or so, but it was missing most of the nice, slow, slice-of-life moments from the show, which sucks out a lot of the emotional impact from those bigger moments. The animation is nice, though, looks just like the show only more polished.
The only major changes were. I'm gonna watch the other three movies tonight, I'm hoping they shake up the formula more instead of feeling like a watered down version of NGE.

Re: Neon Genesis Evangelion
After the TV ending left me terminally confused, and EoE left 12 year old me slightly scarred, I didn't think 3.0+1.0 could ever deliver a conclusion that wouldn't leave me feeling hollow, but now that I've watched, I am left feeling happy & satisfied. Thanks, Anno.

How satisfied would we who saw the original ending feel? I mean as someone who just hated the original ending is it really that much more satisfying?

If you hated the original ending, you may find this ending more satisfying.

Damn, I trust you dude.
Then it's time I finally see it then. The OG ending left me with such a bitter taste for years and years. I mean after all this time I accepted it for what it was and is but after everything I just wanted something to happen.
I'll watch it as soon as I can.

Facts, damn. 2.22 was amazing, I was not expecting any of that.

Re: Neon Genesis Evangelion
Just finished 3.0 plus 1.0, I'll leave things vague to avoid spoilers. It's definitely Anno's most self-indulgent work, at least in regard to his idiosyncrasies. That being said, it has some real charm and works fairly well as an interesting commentary on the franchise at large.

Fuck I regret not watching this in theaters when it came out. I’m gonna watch this ASAP. But also, should I rewatch the series prior? Does it require me remembering a lot?

Re: Neon Genesis Evangelion
I'd say either re-watch the rebuilds or watch blunova's recap of the rebuilds. My recommendation comes more from a place of understanding the rebuild's character progressions than from any narrative or plot benefit. As far as understanding the "story" goes, well its Eva.LSD Jellyfish wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 8:21 pm skreeonk I regret not watching this in theaters when it came out. I’m gonna watch this ASAP.
