It looks ok, I'm getting a strong Zombieland vides from it.
It got an Oscar nomination for Best Visual Effects, so Giant Monsters FTW!

I mean, it didn't have much competition - 2020 was not the year of the big special effects movie, for obvious reasons.
I'm surprised Underwater didn't get nominated in that category though. Thought the effects were good, and again not much competition.

What were the other movies nominated again?
I unapologetically, wholeheartedly, and without a doubt hate Godzilla vs Kong.

Midnight Sky, Mulan 2020 (blegh), One and Only Ivan, and Tenet.

I haven't watched LaM, only a review of it by CinemaWins, but i'm glad it got nominated! I'll be rooting for its myriad FX variety when it happens!

I didn't watch any of these movies, but...the competition, except maybe Tenet, doesn't sound as worthy as Underwater, Sonic the Hedgehog, or Bloodshot. Wasn't Ivan just a gorilla in a circus movie?

Right? For special effects unless there's something I'm missing, a couple of the nominations here don't sound all that impressively special effectsy...

I can't talk for Midnight Sky but I would've much preferred if Sonic and Invisible Man took the spots that Mulan and Ivan have.

Was the Invisible Man in this awards season? Thought that was last season?

It came out last year so it's gotta be this awards season.

Huh, you're right - for some reason I thought it came out earlier in 2019...

Oh, cool, a Norwegian giant monster movie! It's really great to see another country take a shot at this genre.

Updated with a few new inclusions and films moved over to the "Released This Year" list.

Plus, some trailers:

The Great Yokai War: Guardians

Dinosaur Hotel

Papi Ramirez vs. Giant Scorpions

I hadn’t heard of this comic but apparently Sony has optioned rights to produce a movie. Kaiju Heist. Just as the name implies it’s a heist movie set in a city during a monster attack. The comics writers said it’s a mashup of a Tarantino crime movie with Godzilla. https://www.slashfilm.com/the-kaiju-score/

My topic updater has somehow got set to active topics during past two weeks. I can expand it but It won’t even open older threads. So this is how I missed it. Looks interesting though.
